The service here is consummately professional, too. The attendants are always on the dock well in advance of your arrival to assist you in docking and perform their mundane duties with a smile. But in the last couple years they totally downsized the actual marina store in favor of pushing ski boats and launches for sale on their docks. Don't get me wrong, I love to eye-eff a good ski boat or launch, but when I'm waiting for the boat to be fueled I also like to ogle maps and candy and shorts made out of towels -- you know, posh stuff. This year they've also concentrated on adding an art gallery to the marina...an art gallery! Attached to a gas station! With one Sun and Ski outlet *already* dedicated to the sale of boats, I wish this Sun and Ski outlet would remain true to its roots, slum it with the rest of the Muskoka marinas and sell me some Corn Nuts.

The pedal boats and kayaks available for rent. The lake is interesting, with unusual shape. The hikes were so beautiful (make sure to bring mosquito nets)! And I appreciated the signs on the trails. The campsites had just the right amount of privacy. The only downside is noise. Unfortunately, it was not "radio free" for us. Someone was signing karaoke late into the night.

Mortimer's Marine Ltd. -- known more affectionately as Mortimer's Point -- is one of my favorite…read moremarinas on the Lakes because of the following: 1) They sell bulk candy, all of it gummy. I absolutely cannot resist gummy candy, especially if you make it sour and coat it in sugar. Pick up a brown paper bag (reminiscent of school lunches all those many years ago), a pair of miniature tongs, and go to town. Keep track of the number you put in your sack (they're $0.05 apiece), tell the cashier and pay, and you're on your way to a candy coma. 2) There's an old-fashioned Esso sign hanging out in the middle of the Lake, letting you know Mortimer's point is up around the bend. I *love* this Esso sign, all by its lonesome in the middle of the water. I think I have more pictures of *it* than of the family up there. 3) MP doubles as an "airport." Meaning, this is where the rich folk from Toronto (who aren't rich enough to have a seaplane garage at their cottage) land and store their seaplanes. So there's always several moored at Mortimer's. We like to eyeball them whenever we're gassing up the boat. The novelty of a seaplane really never wears off... 4) There never seem to be any adults around. It's like this place is run entirely by children and teens. It gives you an oddly exciting, "Children of the Corn" adrenaline rush. And when you push off the dock to leave, you kind of feel a sense of relief that you didn't fall victim to He Who Walks Behind the Rows.

At the time we visited, the visitor's center was closed, but next year I really want to visit when it's open. There's an observation deck there to watch the boats being hauled up and down. There's also some nice parkette areas to have a picnic at, and some walkways to view the Big Chute and the lakes. A must see if you're anywhere nearby!

Though, it's one of the most expensive golf courses in Ontario, there are few of the same quality but cheaper alternatives nearby. I guess people who have cottages in Muskoka can afford playing in thus club... We were visiting mid-week and it was two days before they were closing for the season, so there were not too many people even though the weather was perfect. The star attraction for me was the restaurant, the lamb was delicious but everything was seriously overpriced.

Our server had gone for a second round of drinks as we still waited for our meal. it was probably another 10-15 mins after when our food arrived. One of our friends sent his fish back as it was not to his liking. someone did come & offer him something while he waited but he declined figuring it wouldn't be long before his food was back. We all finished our meal & were ordering dessert & his meal was still not brought out. At no point did anyone tell him the status of his meal. When the server was taking desser orders he asked and she said I thought it was coming out $ then was told No. There was no other explanation given, no apology or anything. He just didn't get his meal. As for mine, when you may $14 for potatoes you expect the to be hot when they were only lukewarm. I ordered my beef tenderloin medium rare but it was more like rare/blue. I was able to eat some before it was too rare for my liking. I was afraid to send it back seeing my friend had no meal. When you pay good money for a meal you expect to a) get it& b) that it would be hot and delicious not just fine. There was no excuse either it wasn't super busy or anything. Anyway, I would think twice before I go there again.
