Nana Dora's makes the best shredded beef tacos in the world......period. Service is good and while they provide a few indoor seats and more outdoor seating it is really a take out place. The dry white on the tacos is what makes them so exceptional. Try them, we visit from Arizona and always include a meal from Nana Dora's. read more

Long time lurker. First time visitor. Admittedly the place was not much to look at. But the parking lot was VERY neat and clean with a covered patio at the front. A small amount of booths inside with a walk up window for ordering. So let's get to the star of the show.... The FOOD. I've been craving just good, bean tostados. To my tastes it always comes down to the beans and these did not disappoint. They were creamy, cheesey and delicious. The usual toppings were generous and fresh. DH had the carne asada burrito which looked and smelled great. Nice fresh asada and added rice and onions for a nice burrito with guacamole on the side. All around a really good meal. I stumbled upon this place on the way back home to AZ. My car was making a horrific noise so I pulled into their parking lot. When I got out I realized it was a hole in the wall Mexican food place,. I ordered two folded ( crunchy) tacos and chips with Salsa. The plate of chips was enough for two ; the salsa was good. My tacos were juicy, tender and very flavorful! Horrible customer service. The guy at the front was super rude. It was our first time and had questions on the menu and he answered like we should have already known. This was in no way authentic Mexican food. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT REAL MEXICAN FOOD. The burritos come plain. Just the meat and tortilla. If you want anything else in it you need to tell them to add it. And everything that you do add costs $0.25 The food was not very flavorful. And the salsa has no spice to it. Johnny's was closed and I really wanted a meat and bean burrito. So I decided to try Dora's (they are known for their tacos and special quesadillas). Johnny's meat comes in large chunks with a nice sauce...their beans are very yummy. From Dora's ordered a meat burrito with a side of beans and what I got was a shredded beef, onion, and peppers burrito. Half of the burrito was onions and peppers. I didn't say machaca. So don't order any meat burrito from Doras. Their beans are good. Their customer service has improved greatly since they let go of the girl who takes your order over the phone like she hates you. The new person is very nice and a good representative for Dora's. Order tacos and special quesadillas. You can't go wrong! read more

A few of us Firefighters thought we'd give this place a try after a LONG NIGHT with no sleep since we were in the area. The best way we can describe this place is OVER-PRICED AND RIDICULOUSLY SMALL PORTIONS. Basically, $7.00 for a burrito that is the size of a kids menu order. We were all still so hungry after eating and ended up grabbing a few burgers at the local burger joint for less than what their miniature burritos cost. This place should feel embarrassed and ashamed to charge so much for so little. We made sure and circulated this picture to every single fire station and Paramedic station in the area so as to make sure no other Firefighters or Medics experience this embarrassment. This picture has also made it on the refrigerator in our fire station with the best and appropriate caption which I won't share on here but, it definitely fits the "miniature burrito". Last but NOT least, Victoria was out server and she was the most rude and racist person we have met! Total loser! We told her we were going to "yelp" this place and she made a comment that she'd just mark our fire department's reviews as "funny". Typical loser! lol You've been forewarned!! read more

Hmmm, what to eat? There's nothing out here! Work has me out in Brawley, CA! Where the hell is Brawley? OMG! I'm almost in Mexico...anyway I broke out the handy dandy iPhone and searched on Yelp. Fellow yelpers gave this place 4 stars. So, I decided to hit it up. I agree with one reviewer, the help behind the counter does look angry. She seemed a bit perturbed that I was asking what was in the special quesadilla and I asked what did they put in the burrito...anyway, I decided to try both so I ordered one of each. The special quesadilla was a deep-fried quesadilla. Similar to an enormous empanada with only cheese in it. It was greasy and had no flavor. Okay when we visit hubby's family(Brawley and Imperial) this place is a must. My husband grew up eating here and brought me here on our first visit 8 years ago. The have something I've never seen before which is a "special quesadilla" Deep fried puffy tortilla dough filled w/gooey cheese. Their salsa in the squeeze bottle is rockin too. Yummmmmmm! The quesadillas are totally crave-able which is sad b/c I live like 500+ miles from Dora's. We only get to eat at Dora's a couple of times a year so if you're waaaaaay down in southeastern California make the stop you won't be sad you did. My husband and I brought my family down to visit all the in-laws and they gave this place rave reviews. Loved the rolled tacos and nachos w/ shredded beef too. read more

On the drive to Glamis every year we try to eat before we get to Brawley because there is no decent restaurant (even the Carl's Jr is wrong!), until we found Nana Dora's on Yelp this trip. We ate there on the way out and on the way back!! I ordered a special quesadilla on our first visit and while it wasn't awful, I think I could do without it! A fried quesadilla is heavy and a bit too much for me. My husband had rolled tacos and a hard shell taco, which he enjoyed. He also tried some of the chile rellano our friends ordered, and he really liked that also. On our way home, I ordered a tostada which totally excited me because it had chile cotija cheese! I think this is what I love about Nana Dora's...the cheese variety! Not everything is stuffed with boring cheddar, they have put some thought into their food. The quesadilla has jack cheese, tacos and tostadas have chile cotija and I saw cheddar on other things. I am actually looking forward to our next trip through Brawley now!! read more

Dora's is one of the only places to have weathered the years of Brawley's Mexican food restaurant ups and downs. This is one of only two places you will find a special quesadilla in town (and I don't recommend the second), and is a regular stop for our family for Mexican take out. There were 5 of us for lunch this past Saturday, and the only complaint was that the food was pretty slow to come out, but we weren't in a hurry and it gave us a chance to enjoy the beautiful day in their great outdoor seating area that has been revamped. Everything was delicious as always; I went with two folded tacos and a special quesadilla. Their special quesadilla is a little flakier and has a drier texture than others, I prefer the crispier, slightly greasier, El Zarape version if you want to split hairs, but Dora's special quesadilla is great too. The folded tacos are more like homemade, they don't come as crispy as other restaurants (just ask for them crispier if that's how you like them) but are packed with shredded beef or chicken, and lettuce, tomato and lots of cheese. Their hot sauce is a Brawley staple, a little thinner than salsa, but still with some chunks and nice big pieces of cilantro, it's a winner! When I'm not going for tacos, I get a carne asada burrito with guacamole, or a chile relleno burrito. Dora's rellenos are one of the best, and wrapped in a flour tortilla to make it hand held is even better! In all, Dora's puts out a consistent product, is delicious, and has a great variety of Mexican food and Brawley favorites such as the venerable Fries with Cheese. If you are going to pick it up to go, make sure you call it in ahead of time, and give them 10 or 15 minutes, that way you don't have to sit there waiting while your food cooks. A quick family pleaser for us is to get a dozen folded tacos and a big side of rice to go. A little trivia: The lady taking orders once told me that the Saturday of the Cattle Call Parade and the day after Thanksgiving are their busiest days, in that order! read more

They're not lying when they claim to be the best tacos in town. I would even go so far as to say best tacos in the Valley. But stay away from the rest of the menu. The burritos suck as do the fries and dinner plates.I have yet to try anything else that I like from here. Wow, they were good, crisp shells, just the right amount of grease and flavorful meat. That was years ago... OK, it wasn't a secret but damn my mouth was watering. Oh yeah, they are still just as good. Maybe even better than my memory thought.
