Nanashi serves exactly the kind of food I want to eat these days: fresh, healthy, balanced dishes that make you want to run home and recreate the flavors yourself. I'm a sucker for bento and they have three different bentos per day at 13E a pop. I ordered the vegetarian bento with grilled paprika-spiced tofu over a bed of grains with two vegetable salads on the side, a cauliflower, raisin and curry salad and a broccoli, carrot and roquette delight. The meal was fantastic, hearty but totally light. I was tempted by the fabulous looking desserts, but my dining companion and I spent most of the meal talking about tactics for shedding kilos before summer, so we stayed strong and resisted the temptation (we even left through the side door so as not to have to walk past them on the way out!). I plan on coming back to this place until I turn into a bento myself. read more

Nanashi is the perfect place in Paris to try masquerading as a bobo. Or if you prefer, you can simply watch droves of the bourgeois and bohemian tuck into beautiful bentos filled with healthful, decidedly non-buttery, delights like seaweed and lentils and fish croquettes. In my nicest fantasies, when someone requests a "light" meal we'd end up at a place like Nanashi. Light in this context still means toothsome, savoury and filling. The bentos come in meat, fish or vegetarian configurations and are accompanied by a grain and salad or vegetables. The sheer variety keeps things interesting whilst the individual components are each strong enough to stand on their own. I'd nosh again at Nanashi in a nanosecond. read more

I really like the concept of Nanashi- a "bento box" with your choice of meat, fish, or vegetarian, with mixed rice and grains, and various salads, served in a cafeteria-like space. It's great because as a veggie I often feel really left out of what everyone is eating, but not here. The last time I came in the veggie option was white asparagus with pomegranate, which was good, but not as good as other veggie options I've had in the past. There was one salad with cauliflower and broccoli that was unreal, and the rest of the salads and grains were good. One friend tried the meat option, and she really enjoyed it. A bento box at dinner is 16 euros (14 at lunchtime), so is a good and pretty safe option if you want something on the healthy side that isn't too expensive. We came on a Friday night around 8pm, and it was so empty, but by 9 was packed, so if you want a table quickly maybe come earlier. read more

I go to one of the 3 Nanashi outposts at least once a week, often more. This place has really filled a huge gap in Paris by providing fresh, balanced, tasty meals at affordable prices in good looking--though noisy--and original spaces. Cool staff, easy to reserve last minute. There are options for everyone from vegetarians to carnivores. Not the best place for a business lunch due to the hassle and bustle around but other than that no complaints. I took the bento with the pork and it was good but there wasn't a lot of food and by good I don't mean more than ok. I end up being still hungry and I don't like this feeling when its expensive. Prettily designed place with friendly staff. Came 15 minutes after opening there was a line to seat people, but no real wait. Drinks were had. The daily cocktail was delicious, it wasn't on the menu I think but it's on the big chalkboard that has all the daily menu and drinks on it! Pizza Brioche was ok. We were hungry and it was good to eat, but it was not mindblowing. It was just a brioche with veggies. We also got a special which ended up being this sort of brussels sprout? slaw with slices of foie on top. Interesting, yes. Delicious, together, maybe no. (The slaw was good. but it didn't really go with the foie.) We also got a meat bento, and salmon chirashi. The food is all organic and it's okay/good... we were satisfied. But there's a lot of hype surrounding this restaurant, not just for me an American, it was filled with a bunch of cool artsy people mostly french. The hype had me expecting something super special, but it was more just a cool casual spot to have a meal. read more

Came here by accident looking for another place but where pleasantly surprised. Trendy and happening place. The kids loved the 'aigre-doux' chicken and well cooked fish (part of the bento selection). I had the noodles with duck; which where great as well. We finished of with chocolate cake, carrot cake and a black sesame pannacota dish. All good! read more

You always feel great after a Nanashi bento. The food is fresh, organic and healthy. Paris restaurants often feature vegetables as a garnish rather than as a important part of the meal. Not so at Nanashi where every bento box is well-balanced and delicious. The prices are affordable and the rue Charlot location where I always go is bright, clean and airy. I love this place and I'm not sure why they only have 3.5 stars. Finding a place that's delicious, healthy, affordable, filling, packaged well, and quick is like finding a diamond at the beach--impossible. But I did the impossible and found one here! I've only done take out but it's phenomenal. Their take out menu prices are a few euros cheaper than dining in and they package the food so well and give you all the utensils you need. Their dinner hours are later than others but I see why--they put a lot of prep into the food so that you are satisfied when you walk in! I love their bentos which change weekly. They have a vegetarian, fish, and meat option. I have tried the steak tofu which is a deliciously grilled tofu with a few vegetable sides including an arugula salad and a delicious "rice" mix with lentils. So good. They also have chicken or beef bowls for 14€. My boyfriend is a crazy picky eater so when they have weird meat options like duck or pork, he goes for the beef bowl and he loves it. The beef is an excellent quality and comes on top of a bed of rice. They also have spring rolls in chicken or vegetarian for 3€. They are quite small and when you take out, they don't give you the dipping sauce which is my only qualm. The juice take outs for 4.5€ is great to add to your meal. I am also obsessed with their desserts, especially the black sesame pana cotta and matcha raspberry cake. I usually get two meals, a spring roll, two desserts, and a juice for 35€. Crazy good deal. The quality is amazing. For take out, you just go up to the counter and order. The service isn't overly kind but they work hard and I haven't had any bad experiences. read more

Moreover one of our chicken bentos tasted wierd, not that fresh though...My friend took a bite and could not eat more, when she explained the full plate to the waiter all she had was "well ok". I didn't experience awful service here as others have.... it was slow but enjoyable and my waiter was apologetic and helpful. I had a late light lunch here and all the most appetizingly-described menu choices had been consumed so I went with a 6 Euro bowl of miso, tofu and rocket soup and a 3 Euro nigiri salmon. They were a wonderful combination and just the light lunch the doctor ordered after an all night flight brought me into Paris in the mid-morning. It is very crowded here and there are many things I would have liked to sample that I would be glad to return to try. read more

This was exactly the lunch I was looking for: healthy, fresh, and filling. I had the vegetarian bento, which contained a tofu burger w/ tomato sauce, green salad with roasted vegetables, and carrot salad. Everything had great flavor while still being light. They also have Japanese sencha tea, which is my absolute favorite and hard to find in Paris. 20 euros total - not bad for lunch. Desserts looked excellent, wish I had tried one but was in a bit of a rush. read more

After 10 days straight of Italian food my wife and I were excited to try something different and Nanashi was right across from our AirBnb. I thought our experience was better than the current 3.5 star review. The service was great and quick and we actually got a pitcher of free water after paying for it in Italy. We ordered the Bento Poisson and the Veggie Soba. Both were solid options and I had missed my fresh veggies. The matcha cake was also good but probably not the best dessert option. The food seems to be a little expensive but that is the case everywhere in Paris so it's to be expected. Compared to the food at the French Open however it seemed quite reasonable. I am sure there are better choices around but sometimes variety and convenience are quite powerful! read more

I went to Nanashi with a friend who took me here and I really loved the place! It is the ideal spot for a lunch break because the service is fast, the food delicious and the prices reasonable. Having said that it does tend to get pretty busy - in fact I think all of the tables were full at around 13h so maybe get there a little earlier. We both ordered the bento boxes; I chose the fish one and she the vegetarian and both of us were equally pleased with our choices. The sea bass was absolutely delicious; I must admit that it was my first bento experience so I don't have anything to compare it to but it certainly shant be my last! After eating a lot of pate, fromage, prix fixe, and nearly raw duck, I think we were exhausted with Parisienne food. In the trendy Marais district is a small restaurant that focuses on the interpretation of Japanese food. I would not say it is authentic, but it's not exactly teriyaki either. Instead it echoes elements of Japanese cuisine: clean, nongreasy, simple flavors, with elegant presentation. The restaurant itself starts out with what appears to be a small grocery store and takeout station, and the back offers tables with some that have a nice view for people watching. Ambiance is casual, but chic with dining tables that have a thoughtful and artistic geometric pattern on the surface. Food is served in small rectangular white containers, a nod to Japanese bentos. Tried the potato croquette and the onigiri. Definitely pass on the onigiri if you were expecting something authentic, the tuna stuffing was not well marinated and tasted like canned tuna. The rice itself was not seasoned at all. The potato croquette came in two (pleasant surprise) and had a nice sweet and salty filling. Both apps were passable, but we were starving at this point. I ordered the bento of the day which was a bonito fish. The fish was cooked well, however retained a "fishy" taste that was not quite the flavor I was used to. I think I was expecting the hearty smokiness of a mackerel but the bonito definitely had more of the "sea" essence and a slightly slimey texture. It was served on a bed of multigrain rice which lacked flavor but was pretty to look at. Very underwhelmed. Now I also tried the salmon, which was very different from the bonito, in other words, it was amazing. The texture was slightly firm, which is similar to the sashimi I had in Japan. It was also marinated in soy sauce (and something else, mystery sauce?) that soaked into the rice, making the salmon very flavorful and delicious. And I am starting to salivate just thinking about that salmon. For dessert we tried the panna cotta sesame, which was soft and creamy. It tastes like sesame creme brulee, only you don't have the crispy outside. The fresh raspberries and small dollop of cream on top were also refreshing. We also had the green tea cheesecake which was.. overwhelmingly wonderful. Just the right combination of green tea to cheesecake ratio, making it not too sweet, similar to desserts in Japan. Also tried the matcha shake, thick and slightly powdery, would not order again. The juice of the day had watermelon and apples, which was crisp and tasty. Overall we were pleased with the food. In a city where the Asian food options are scarce, especially if you would rather not go to the $$$$ sign places, this is a good option. In another city like NYC or LA, this would probably be a 3 star, based on the food itself. However, it is Paris. Service was friendly. Come here if you would like healthy, clean, Japanese inspired food. read more

I always feel like I've eaten really healthy after a meal at nanashi. I really like the concept of the bento (though it would be more authentic if they used actual bento boxes!). From a portion standpoint, I think it's a good value for the money. Attention though for the add-ons. We were a bit shocked this past weekend when tallying up our bill, we noticed that the 2 fruit juices we had added an additional 11 euros to our bill! I agree with the French posters on the decor. The lighting is not so good and the place overall it has a unfinished feel to it. I do love though that it is child friendly and the service is always inviting and efficient. read more

Last night I spend 4 hours in this restaurant with friends and their young children, 6 and 8. I am a vegan but my friends aren't. We were a mixture of nationalities but we all had French but English is spoken here. I like restaurants that are quiet enough for serious conversations but animated with interesting looking folk. I don't favour overly-designed places and look for honest food well presented. Most vegan restaurants have little knowledge of food chemistry or world culinary culture. The chef here does. The wait staff here are helpful, attractive and fun. I live in the neighbourhood and so come here often. Other reviewers have spoken about the food choices. I want to salute the ambiance that is relaxing and restorative. I wish there were more places like this. read more

I had the duck noodles which were great. The duck was very nicely done and the flavors of it with the noodles was perfect. My friend had the tofu noodles and was disappointed with the quality of the tofu, it was pretty tasteless which was surprising because asians normally do tofu really well. We also shared the avocado appetizer. The yuza definitely goes really well with the avocado and the sauce at the bottom of the tofu was delicious, making this a very flavorful dish regardless of the tasteless tofu. The service was pretty mediocre. Our main plates came before the entrée. We had to ask for things multiple times ie chopsticks because the waiter just forgot. read more

No coherency with their menu and a bento is not a plate of quinoa with 3 kind of vegetables. The Japanese name is totally misleading and it's a shame for a potentially be a cute place. 4.5 stars new.favorite.restaurant. Not that Nanashi is new. I'm a little late getting on the boat with this one. But, wow, so glad I did! I can honestly say that this is the first time when eating out in Paris that I didn't feel even a little bit of shame in ordering the veggie meal. Not that I feel shame for being vegetarian, but I do get mocked quite regularly for that choice here...but not a Nanashi. I had the veggie bento box for dinner, which this evening came with a tofu "galette" (patty) with a pumpkin "sauce" (more of a spread, like hummus) on a bed of mixed grain (couscous and quinoa). It was accompanied by the three salad options for the day. I was pleasantly full and satisfied after dinner. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever of feeling like I was ripped-off for having to order the same price yet horribly unequal veggie meal (as happens at many other restaurants). My dining companion had the soba noodles with duck confit. As much as I don't want to eat duck, I was impressed with how well they did combining the Japanese and French cooking styles. Usually, French-ified Japanese food amounts to cheese in sushi...blech. My only complaints were with regards to the appetizer (entrée) and dessert. We ordered edamame as our appetizer, but they brought it out with our meal. So, there was no chance to relax a bit with some wine and chat before our meal came - felt a bit hurried and too diner-ish. This was one of my original hesitations in going here - that it was going to be too much like "fast food" (by Parisian standards) for a nice night out. Other than this small issue, I was really pleased with the dinner atmosphere. The other thing I wasn't a fan of was the dessert. I ordered the chocolate fondant (cake), which was probably my mistake. Should have opted for one of the macha desserts to keep with the Japanese theme. For someone like myself, with gluten intolerance, it's normally insensible to go get lunch/dinner at a Japanese fusion restaurant, which, of course uses soy sauce (wheat based) in many of their food items. But! Every time I have gone to Nanashi, they have been so accommodating with my dietary restriction and ever so keen on warning me about possible contaminations and even sometimes making suggestions on how to cater to my needs. For the lucky folks out there who can eat whatever they want happily, this is a must-try. I've tried most of (what I can eat) on the menu and everything tastes so fresh and so so delicious! Also, don't skip out on the dessert. Lastly, the ambiance is very casual but lively during busy hours. Overall a very comfortable environment. read more

The owner is super nice and there was a very cute waitress working there that made me wish I spoke French (because she spoke no English). Possibly good possibly bad. My trip was a bad one. Got the fish bento, salad was ok. Fish tasted like a meal one would get on an airplane flying eco. Ambiance is good in the back. We were sat in the front, even though about 6 tables were open in the back. Was hot as hell and had to listen to the cooks drop crates of plates on the floor about 15 times. If you aren't friends with the staff or a really hot girl, I'd say avoid. read more
