I happen to be in Toronto and to my surprise--there it was. Nando's. This infamous Nando's I've heard UK folks sing praises about for years. Cult-level hype. I couldn't let the opportunity pass. The dining space? Bright, clean, inviting. Modern but casual. Off to a genuinely good start. And then... things went south. I ordered the peri-peri chicken with two sides. The wait was excruciating. Not just long--confusing. Every single person who ordered after me was eating while I sat there wondering if my ticket got lost in another country. When the chicken finally arrived, I was stunned--and not in a good way. Easily the smallest leg/thigh combo I've ever seen. Yes, I'm used to USA-sized, GMO-filled chickens, but I've eaten plenty overseas. This wasn't "European portioning." This was kiddie-sized. Flavor? Underwhelming. Forgettable. Nothing that made me pause, nothing that lingered. For a place built on peri-peri heat and personality, this was shockingly flat. I can get chicken with more punch at my local Grocery & Go. The mac and cheese had decent texture--the breadcrumbs did their job--but flavor-wise? Completely bland. Zero soul. The fries? Although well seasoned, we're like warm. Great food, great location, great service! We know what to expect when I come to Nando's and that's juicy chicken and yummy sides!! It's always so great to eat at this Nando's on Bay Street. They're consistently good and have a large dining area to sit in. The to-go vibe that Nando's has is convenient and means that you can also be in and out as quickly or as slowly as you'd like. Their service is fine, but I think it's gotten worse over time, it used to be really good! They have a "platter deal" going on now which came with lots of fries, rice, garlic bread, 2 full chicken for $34.99. A really good deal compared to their usual menu. We always order the medium and like to order a drink on the side with ice (Nando's has the "good ice" ifykyk!!! ). They have drink fountains all over the restaurant so it makes it really easy for customers. We also looove the option to have tons of sauce on the side with sauce bottles available to take to your table, and hand washing stations around the restaurant. read more

It's been a few years since I've been to Nando's since I live in the States, so I was excited to go back! I went for a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered 1/4 chicken (leg/thigh) with two sides: the Peri fries and the roasted cauliflower. The chicken was good, but quite a small piece. The fries were a bland and cardboard-esque. The sweet chili sauce that coated the cauliflower was overpowering and too sweet. Overall, the food just wasn't as good as I remembered. The decor is really nice for a fast-casual restaurant. I cant believe the chicken was sacrificed for this . To be fair the chicken was cooked well as in it wasnt dry - however there was no flavour to it. The sauces really deteriorated in taste since the last time I went here at the beginning of 2024. The two dishes we got were garlic bread and 2 chicken legs with peri fries. The total cost was $20 (and this is without HST!) You can get an entire chicken at Costco for $8 which is also cooked really well. As seen in the photo the portion sizes were also small and the garlic bread looked like it had been squished by a steamroller. The resturant seating and staff were really nice (so two star). Due to not many people being in the restaurant they gave us a booth to sit in upon request. Will most likely not be going back again unless I crave rotisserie chicken and want to eat at a restaurant. read more

I heard this place is a popular South African chain that is known for their flame-grilled peri-peri style chicken and sauces, so I knew I had to try it while I was visiting Canada! I went here on a Monday for dinner around 8:45pm and there was a short wait. We ended ordering the Chicken Sandwich (Lemon & Herb) with PERi-Fries & Coleslaw, 1/2 Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes & PERi Mac, and also the Garlic Bread. We wanted to try a good variety of items while we were there. They also have a hot sauce bottle at each table, but that hot sauce was a bit too spicy for me (I have a low spice tolerance). The hot sauce flavor was good though! The mashed potatoes were thick which is something I enjoy and the macaroni was very cheesy and creamy and I love when my macaroni is like that. I also loved how moist and tender the chicken was and the garlic bread tasted like the typical garlic bread. The fries and the coleslaw just tasted like the typical fries and coleslaw, but I did like how thick and crispy the fries were. I'd recommend this place, but don't expect too much. Came to Nando's for the first time, because I had many positive reviews from my peers. I was not disappointed. As soon as I came in I was overwhelmed with confusion for the niche system and environment. As soon as I started looking around, I was approached by a worker who immediately helped guide me and answered all my questions. They helped me as a first time customer, to look through the menu, find what was popular, and show me where to order. When I ordered, I was also confused on which items to get such as sides, drinks, and spice levels. I was very impressed by the friendly service given by a lovely woman in glasses, and she patiently helped me with all suggestions and concerns. I had experiences where the restaurant had self-serve options and I was not impressed with the lack of effort and care for customers. At Nandos, there was self service for drinks, condiments, cutlery, and sauces. But the service was not ignored to the customers, checking in, and offering any other services such as helping grab items from the self-serve section. While given my food, the waiter had asked me if it was my first time here. This was very surprising to me as it showed how much they cared for new customers. The fries felt healthier and less oily than others, and the chicken had an immediate taste of deliciousness. I had thought before I came in, that the prices were high-ish, as my dish was 18 dollars I think...? But once i realized how the food, portions, and service exceeded my expectations, I definitely had high regrets for not tipping... (very sorry nandos). I will come again! read more

The Ambience is great but not NEARLY enough to make up for them getting my order wrong TWICE and then taking forever to bring the food in the first place. Even after I do FINALLY get my food. European style ordering, so you order at the counter, pay first, tell cashier your table #, your food will be brought to your table when done. There are sauce bottles you can grab from the condiments stand, utensils and napkins you have to pick up too. Don't forget to pick up a bottle of water and glasses at the cashier if you need. We had buy one get one free coupon so I shared with another person. You can pick chicken thigh or the breast meat for a extra charge. I picked breast meat, it's a bit bigger than the dark meat plate. I was pretty full. At first not too many people but later on it had gotten packed. We had a big party so we sat at a round table, half had bench, the other half had chairs. DISAPPOINTED As a loyal customer of Nando's, I was excited to visit the Bay St. location specifically for the convenience of enjoying a variety of Coca-Cola beverages through the Freestyle machine. I checked the coco cola website. They said you have it. I called ahead before coming. A host confirmed that it was available and working. However, upon my visit yesterday, I was dismayed to discover that the Freestyle machine was not available. This false information not only misled me as a customer but also resulted in a significant inconvenience during my dining experience. As a consumer, I value transparency and honesty from businesses, especially when it comes to the accuracy of amenities and offerings. Other than that, my dining experience was very positive. There was a bit of an issue in taking the order, owing to technical issues with the points reward system. We got a great table. The food arrived on time and hot. But what's funny is that I remarked to the team member about the missing machine. He pointed to the fountain drinks dispenser and said that that was the coca cola freestyle machine. And finally, do you what's really funny? That the POS system still has a line for the Freestyle qr code! read more

Peri-peri Chicken Thigh (lime seasoning) with 1 side (3/5)- It tasted good, but their chicken size was small. I especially liked the garlic hot sauce Bottomless frozen yogurt (3.5/5)- It was pretty cool that they had a froyo machine that you can get however much plain vanilla froyo you wanted. It was pretty standard and wasn't too friendly for my lactose-sensitive stomach though. I must say, congrats to Nandos for making me write my first review on the platform. Let this be a warning to those tempted to try the restaurant based on the other reviews. To begin with, my partner and I were told to wait at the front while they cleaned our table, the waiter's exact words were "We're cleaning your table right now, it'll only be about a minute, your table is 11". We proceeded to wait and look at the menu but nobody ever came to get us and take us to our table. It was one of the staff members who were at the register who asked us if we needed help since they noticed us standing there. In reality, our table was ready for a long time and our waiter just forgot about us. But that's fine I understand it was a really busy night. So after we were seated, we ordered a full chicken with fries, cauliflower, and garlic bread. We were told that there is a wait on the chicken for about 30-40 minutes, but we said that would be fine as we expected the food to be good. When the food came, it looked good, as someone who has worked in the kitchen and worked with open flame grills, the charring on the chicken seemed reasonable (slightly more on the burnt side but understandable). But the moment we started eating, we realized that this was not a meal worth $50+. The charring on the chicken in our opinion would simply be classified as burnt, there is no "flame grilled" taste to the chicken, it's simply bitter. At first, I was fine with it but after a third mouthful of burnt chicken, I just started piling the burnt bits on the side of my plate. The flavor of the chicken was bland and extremely dry (except for the thighs). I don't know how to "review" the flavor of the chicken when there is none. The fries were good except there are a couple of them crispy to the point where stabbing them with a fork made them detach themselves and fly to other plates. Was that an exaggeration, no. The cauliflowers were mushy and again had no flavor. The garlic bread, out of the 6-8 pieces only 4 of them were properly toasted while the other pieces were soggy but they tasted pretty good so that's okay. What made the experience worst was that we saw the person who initially gave us our table waiting other customers, guiding them to their seats, taking his time to explain that you have to grab your own sauce, and order upfront. We came at a time less busy than those who got better service. I am usually a very understanding person in regard to poor service, bad food, and bad ambiance since there is always the aspect of how much I am paying for those bad experiences, but having paid nearly $60 for the food and service we got, it's just sad. Was the restaurant taking more orders than they can handle? Yes. Was it a busy weekday? Yes. But at the end of the day I have to look out for my best interest, and taking my hard-earned money to this place expecting better was my mistake. Being on their side of things, sure maybe they just messed up for us, considering the overwhelmingly good reviews on here, but think to yourself, do YOU really want to be the unlucky one who gets awful service and awful food, do you want to go to a restaurant on a basis of luck and HOPE for a good day. read more

I went to Nando's Flame Grill Chicken restaurant for supper. The restaurant was nicely decorated as it was a new location. Nando's restaurant is not like other restaurants as you have to order and pay at the counter like a fast food restaurant? You also have to pick up your own cutlery, sauces and drinks? Why do I have to give them a tip? They have a lot of staff on hand. We ordered a whole chicken, but we got two drum sticks and two breast portions? The chicken was tasty and juicy. The spiced rice was mushy and the french fries were ordinary. We ordered the New York cheesecake. It was okay, but taste like a cheesecake from a supermarket. Would I go back? Maybe, as the chicken was good as Swiss Chalet, but I rather go to a restaurant on Eglinton or St. Clair for Portuguese chicken. read more

Went to this location with a group for lunch. The setting is fairly nice, open and lively. FOOD - I ordered the PERI chicken rainbow bowl. The food was cold and the chicken was barely warm. Good flavours, but the food was not fresh. One of us ordered the veggie burger which was served cold. The bun and contents were not even warmed up properly. Very disappointing. The sweet potato filling was literally fridge cold. SERVICE - My friends at the table waited nearly an additional 15-20 minutes for their food to be brought to the table while the rest of us ate, poor service. We had to ask what caused the delay before any server assisted. Overall - The cashier provided the best customer service. The servers lacked attention to any details and the chefs certainly showed no care whatsoever they prepared. Oh my goodness Nando, where have you been all my life?! I needed to go downtown with a coworker today for a meeting so we popped in here for lunch first. I've heard about Nando's from following The Body Coach on Instagram but just assumed it was a U.K. chain. We arrived at approximately 12:30pm and although the restaurant was busy, we were seated quickly at a long, family-style table. The decor was kinda funky and extremely inviting. We both opted for the Quinoa Salad with Peri Peri Chicken (add-on) and headed up to the counter to place our orders. After grabbing our cutlery and drinks we head to our seat to wait for our food. It wasn't long before we were presented with the most beautiful and delicious looking salad! A few bites in and I knew we'd picked a winner! My lunch companion had been to Nando's before so she knew to grab the extra bottle of Peri Peri Garlic Sauce. OMG. And I thought it couldn't get any better!! This is such a handy tool, and it was super easy to use. It prompts you to customize sauces, add sides or drinks, and so it's easy to understand what you're ordering. We got: To share: The three appetizer mix of nuts, olives and hummus. They were all pretty basic, although the hummus comes w a peri peri sauce in a bottle on the side that my husband used on his chicken later on. I would get the olives again. Quinoa salad: for some reason this was so good, even the dressing was really great. It had fruit of some kind as well. Would definitely get again. For our mains: I got chicken livers and a Portuguese bun. The bun was fresh and soft. The livers were soooo creamy and rich. I ordered them plain but they did still taste a bit spicy. My husband got half chicken and a side of veggies. I was impressed that the veggies were yellow and red peppers, and zucchini, instead of something like celery or carrots. I came across this place while walking around Toronto, I have had nando's during my visit to London. This location was really nice and it seems like they do a lot of take out and Uber eat orders. I had done take out order and the service was really nice and helpful. I got the 1/4 chicken which was juicy and soft with a side of peri peri fries which were really good and if you dip them in the nando's spicy sauce it's the perfect combination. Along with that I also got the mashed potatoes which were great and a Cesar salad which I can't tell you because they never packed it with my order- so my advice here is check your bag to make sure you have everything before leaving the location. First off, I just wanted to commend the work they've done on the interior design of the restaurant. The retro green couches and aesthetic figurines by the sauce wall were really eye-catching. The prices here for chicken were pretty decent for the amount of food you get. I ordered the half chicken in medium heat with a side of Peri Peri fries and coleslaw. You order your food at the counter, and once you're done, simply wait and the food will be brought to your table. You select your sauce at the sauce shelf. I got the medium spicy Peri Peri sauce and some ketchup for my fries. I can't tell you how much I loved the Peri Peri sauce for my chicken. The medium sauce was spicy enough for me without being overbearing and gave the chicken a nice tangy kick. The chicken itself was very tender and well seasoned. In addition, the fries were also super crispy and seasoned nicely with the spice mix. For dessert, I got a Pasteis de Nata (Portuguese Egg Tart). These were some of the most delicious egg tarts I've had. It was so flaky and moist... I really loved the service I got here and how fast my food arrived. I usually order a double leg meal so that I can have half the next day for lunch, for only a few dollars more than the single leg meal! Overpriced and small portions! I ordered the 1/2 chicken peri with one side. Did I just order way to much food? No! Although tasty and pretty juicy, the chicken pieces were very small. Almost equal in size to what you would get from a 1/4 chicken at Swiss Chalet. These mighty small chickens clucking away at Nando's, are more like Cornish hen or over sized quail. My side of fries, were nothing to write home about. Small and no different in look and texture to what you'd expect from Harvey's takeout. I asked for mayo for my fries, to which they said they only had spicy peri mayo. For an extra $1.60 I received a half filled small plastic container of the mayo. Not worth it! You might as well buy a bottle of the stuff. All in all, my meal cost me over $22 with tip and tax. I was sure that ordering the 1/2 chicken would leave me overly stuffed. On the contrary. I was actually still hungry after spending over 20 bucks here. At the end of the day, sadly I won't be going back, unless Nando's changes the value for money factor. Just not worth it to me.
