Smokey and double salmon sushi rolls
    Jennyfer A.

My friend and I tried the "Smokey" sushi creation and "double salmon" sushi rolls. First off the Miso soup was delicious but I wish the bowl of soup had been bigger. The sushi was ofcourse deliciously perfect! The sushi pieces here seemed thicker and larger than at other places, which was great to eat. My friend then tried a bento box special and was delighted to find out it was bigger than he expected. He ate everything and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere here is both casual and classy. Come as you are and enjoy your food in a romantic, cozy, dimly lit restaurant. The food is prepared beautifully too.

Flaming spicy dish that I don't remember the name of.

My daughter and I went to Naru for the first time this weekend and they did not disappoint. We had the Shrek Roll, a Chef's Choice (9) and one of their Spicy flaming dishes (sorry, I don't remember what it was called). Every bite was flavorful. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the pricing was great. The restaurant itself is a bit dated but clean and well lit. Thank you for such a pleasant experience.

magurli (tuna tataki with imitation crab, avocado, served on cucumber slice, kimchee sauce)

This place has undergone ownership changes and is now called "Naru Sushi" instead of Miyabi. But many things have remained the same including the decor which hasn't changed much. I don't really like the banquette seating here and unfortunately that has remained from the past owners. The banquette seating is way too high and fluffy so it makes for a somewhat odd seating experience. Try to get a table by the window with regular chairs instead. The menu is fairly large - lots of appetizers and rolls to choose from. Pricing here is very fair and I might even say inexpensive for sushi. They have lots of lunch specials that range from $8-$10. I really liked the "magurli" ($7.50), this is an appetizer dish that serves up 5 slices of tuna tataki that sits on a thin slice of cucumber and topped with crab and avocado and flying fish roe with a slight drizzle of kimchee sauce. Very interesting flavours on this Japanese/Korean dish. The "Osborne Roll" ($7.50) has tuna tataki with tempura crumbs, a green leaf and sesame sauce was rather bland and disappointing. The "spicy chopped scallop roll" ($5.50) was delicious with a good zing and had the right amount of mayo. A really good roll topped with toro is the "Moonbow Roll" for $12.50. Another fave is the "Ohana Roll" ($9.50) which has tuna and avocado, topped with wild salmon. $16 for a wild salmon and fatty tuna sashimi order was well worth it as the portions were quite decent and the fish was pretty good. It wasn't the best sashimi I've had but good enough. Wine is pretty inexpensive here as their house white (sauvignon blanc) was only $5.50 for a 5 ounce pour. Service is effective and nice though the server wasn't super knowledgeable with some of the questions we had. But overall, a good sushi place and serves up to be a romantic place for dinner or a good place to catch up with a few friends over sushi and a nice quiet atmosphere.

This place was absolutely wonderful. Hands down some of the best sushi I've ever had. My husband loved the spring rolls. He ordered more just to take home. They were very friendly and fast. Very nice, intimate environment. Will definitely be returning next time we are in Winnipeg.

I'm a sushi novice so ordered one of their set meals it was a good combination of tempura and rolls. The food was delicious. The decor was nice and intimate, but service was lacking. It took a long time to order and once we got our food there was no sight of our server.

Sapporo and double salmon roll. $31 with 20% tip. Not bad inside, decent sushi, fair price. The typical selection of Japanese beers.

I order, say that's it, he says it'll be 15-20 mins. We head out a little later then should, but get there and our order's ready and waiting. Decor was, oddly, one of the more appreciated sushi place decorum I'm seen. It wasn't much to look at, bags of rice and sushi supplies piled high in the front, with 4-5 cafe chairs aimed outside to the streets of Corydon. Fridge cabinet full of sushi ginger and the like. But something about it seemed nice. I may not want to eat in there, but it was like I was at some depot of sushi, like a landing dock where sushi came in. Up a small set of stairs, K-Pop playing on the radio, three chefs with 'Korea' headbands wrapped around their heads up front making the food. I have to say, it seemed like one of the more dedicated sushi joints I've seen. Small and quaint, and you can't beat three good sets of sushi (Bakudan, California, and Dynamite rolls) for 2.99. I'll definitely be revisiting this place when I don't want to pay much for good food.

I love that this place looks more upscale - think Earls, but doesn't compromise the quality of their food. It is the only place I know of where you can get new style sashimi (sashimi that is slightly seared) and roles that are wrapped with either cucumber or radish. YUM! The last time I went here I tried their features roll which was called a velvet something or other. I was hesitant because it was $22 but it came with around 10 pieces and was AMAZballs. No regrets ordering it at all. Which does make me let you know that the sushi is on the pricey side, but worth it. All of the ingrediants are fresh and the drinks are well made. Some are weird combinations - like the ginger pear. Take that off the menu. When you make a reservation also think of where you want to sit. They have a party type room off the front hostess desk which is completely private, they have the lounge, the main floor dining (one side open to the chefs and the other closed) then they have the upstairs and the back room. When we got there, the restaurant was packed to do its limited seating. We went back to the car and tried to figure out where else to go, but luckily, a group had just came out of the restaurant, so we ended up eating at Sushi Ai after all. Once inside, we were seated at a table that still had dirty dishes on it from the previous people that ate at our table. After about several minutes, someone came to clear the plates off the table and wiped it down. We were provided with a menu, as well as a menu with lunch combo specials. We decided to order the croquette ($2.75), "tacoyaki" ($5.25), shrimp tempura ($9.50), bakudan tuna roll ($4.75), chopped surf clam roll ($6.25), spider roll ($8.75), and tiger roll ($12.50). The first to arrive was the croquette and "tacoyaki" (which I assume was a spelling error, but it appears that the restaurant and take-out menu are both spelled this way). Before I continue with my review on the food, I would like to add that the service was subpar and the server was not attentive at all. When the server had given us the croquette and takoyaki, she just left afterwards. We were not given any napkins or chopsticks and it was really hard to get her attention, so that we could our chopsticks to enjoy our food. Also, not once did she come by our table to see how our food was or if our water needed to be refilled, even though our cups were empty. Now back to the food. The croquette was a single large piece that was cut in half and served with teriyaki sauce. Inside, the croquette was filled with mashed potato and corn. I don't usually order croquette because of how simple it is to make, but my friend had wanted to order it. I ended up trying it and thought it was good and well seasoned. The takoyaki came in 6 pieces and was served with a drizzle of mayo and spicy sauce. The takoyaki was smaller than the ones I'm used to having and taste-wise, it was okay, neither good nor bad. I probably wouldn't order it again. Next came all the sushi rolls and the shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura was okay, it had a nice batter to it, not too thick. However, one thing that bugged me was that they do not devein the shrimp. No one likes to take a bite into a shrimp tempura to see the black intestinal tract still intact in the shrimp, which is kind of off-putting. The tiger roll was okay, the only thing is the sauce used and the amount that was used was a bit overwhelming. The spider roll was also okay, the soft shell crabs had a thicker batter to it than most places of I've seen and had from. I did, however, really loved the chopped surf clam roll. I don't normally order surf clam, so I was expecting much, but it was a delightful surprise. The tuna bakudan was so-so, and a bit dry (due to the lack of sauce). Overall, I'd probably wouldn't be returning here again because of the service and the food. Also, it seems like they were a bit understaffed, as the few tables that next to us had left a long time ago, but the tables were left uncleared and uncleaned.
