    Beef tongue

My go to sushi place for dine in and take out. They are super busy so be prepared for a longer wait for take out on Friday's and Saturday's. They have one of the best quality fish and seafood in the city (unlike wasabi which has been slipping year after year in quality). Ambience feels a bit more rushed here but food is always on point. Ask for their specials. Love the beef tongue - soooo good. They also have some great specialty rolls that are not on the regular menu. Whenever I order platters for parties at home - everyone always raves about how good the sushi rolls are. For a quick dinner take out I love the Donburi - I don't have to think of what to get and I get a complete meal. I love the TORODON $21 - 9pcs fatty albacore tuna on sushi rice with miso soup and salad. The rice is almost always done right and if you know sushi it's all about the rice. I even like the vegetable rolls which I prefer to not order since most are the same price as the ones with fish. Some faves: Beef tongue (specials) - it's cooked and super tender and flavourful with the mustard they serve DELUXE CALIFORNIA ROLL $8 - real crab meat, mayo, tobiko, avocado & sesame

    Assorted tempura

Came here for the first time for my birthday. This family owned restaurant was quite the experience. My family loved everything that we ordered. Chef Billy did an amazing job. Everything tasted fresh and was made efficiently even though it was busy. The service was also quick. It was on the pricier side in terms of sushi, but it was worth it.

Haven't been back since the disgusting crap they gave us New Year's Eve that was made in some ones garage. Not fresh not good not going back

In my opinion this is by far the best Sushi restaurant in town. I've been going to Yujiro for years and never had less than perfect experience. Ingredients are always fresh and of the highest quality while prices are very reasonable. If you prefer giant rolls with tons of rice on them or all-you-can-eat sushi, don't bother coming. This is sushi done right, byte sized pieces, wonderful presentation, always the best and freshest ingredients. They do have daily specials, combination (bento) specials and a lower priced lunch time menu, though. If you want to sample of variety of items without breaking the bank, I highly recommend trying one of the bento/package specials, like Yujiro special. You get a miso soup, bowl of rice, 8-10 small pieces of sashimi, two rolls (California is heavenly here), side salad or an appetizer and a desert, all for less than $18. Daily specials are great for discovering something new, there you'll find less common, but pretty amazing dishes. The place is not huge, but very comfortable, tastefully decorated and well suited for a romantic dinner. I can see it working for bigger groups of 8-12 people as well. There's also a sushi bar, where you can enjoy your food after you watch chef prepare it right in front of you. The owner and chef, Masa, is one of the very few real Japanese chefs from Japan that operate in Winnipeg. Also, one of the longest in business. This is not a run of the mill, Korean owned "Japanese" restaurants that seem to have spread through the city in the recent years. This is one of the very few authentic Japanese sushi restaurants, you won't find metal chopsticks here.

Went to Yujiro for lunch today, and as usual, their food never disappoints. This is probably my favourite Japanese restaurant in the city. I was the first customer of the day, and was greeted by the waiter/waitress. I took my usual seat by the window. The waiter informed me of their special of the day. I ended up ordering the miso ramen ($11, which has gone up from $10), a favourite of mine. I've also had their seafood ramen in the past, which was also quite good (photo can be found in the photo section here). The miso ramen comes with a sheet of nori, bamboo shoots, wakame, half of a marinated egg, sliced pork (which was super tender) and scallion. It also came with a side vegetable salad, which I had forgotten it came with. If I had known, I'd probably wouldn't have ordered the yakitori ($6), because I was super full by the time it arrived at my table. The yakitori was so juicy and tender, so it was well worth over-stuffing myself. I had the yakitori with teriyaki sauce, but you also have the option of having it with simply salt and pepper. I should also note that they only offer ramen during lunch hours, so come for lunch if you want some ramen. Aside from miso, they also have spicy miso, seafood, and chicken karaage ramen. However, they only have miso ramen on their menu, so just ask the server whether they have the other kinds available.

Fresh and authentic. Ramens are really good and at that time they had uni! 4 stars because sushi servings are quite small for the price.

I order, say that's it, he says it'll be 15-20 mins. We head out a little later then should, but get there and our order's ready and waiting. Decor was, oddly, one of the more appreciated sushi place decorum I'm seen. It wasn't much to look at, bags of rice and sushi supplies piled high in the front, with 4-5 cafe chairs aimed outside to the streets of Corydon. Fridge cabinet full of sushi ginger and the like. But something about it seemed nice. I may not want to eat in there, but it was like I was at some depot of sushi, like a landing dock where sushi came in. Up a small set of stairs, K-Pop playing on the radio, three chefs with 'Korea' headbands wrapped around their heads up front making the food. I have to say, it seemed like one of the more dedicated sushi joints I've seen. Small and quaint, and you can't beat three good sets of sushi (Bakudan, California, and Dynamite rolls) for 2.99. I'll definitely be revisiting this place when I don't want to pay much for good food.

When we got there, the restaurant was packed to do its limited seating. We went back to the car and tried to figure out where else to go, but luckily, a group had just came out of the restaurant, so we ended up eating at Sushi Ai after all. Once inside, we were seated at a table that still had dirty dishes on it from the previous people that ate at our table. After about several minutes, someone came to clear the plates off the table and wiped it down. We were provided with a menu, as well as a menu with lunch combo specials. We decided to order the croquette ($2.75), "tacoyaki" ($5.25), shrimp tempura ($9.50), bakudan tuna roll ($4.75), chopped surf clam roll ($6.25), spider roll ($8.75), and tiger roll ($12.50). The first to arrive was the croquette and "tacoyaki" (which I assume was a spelling error, but it appears that the restaurant and take-out menu are both spelled this way). Before I continue with my review on the food, I would like to add that the service was subpar and the server was not attentive at all. When the server had given us the croquette and takoyaki, she just left afterwards. We were not given any napkins or chopsticks and it was really hard to get her attention, so that we could our chopsticks to enjoy our food. Also, not once did she come by our table to see how our food was or if our water needed to be refilled, even though our cups were empty. Now back to the food. The croquette was a single large piece that was cut in half and served with teriyaki sauce. Inside, the croquette was filled with mashed potato and corn. I don't usually order croquette because of how simple it is to make, but my friend had wanted to order it. I ended up trying it and thought it was good and well seasoned. The takoyaki came in 6 pieces and was served with a drizzle of mayo and spicy sauce. The takoyaki was smaller than the ones I'm used to having and taste-wise, it was okay, neither good nor bad. I probably wouldn't order it again. Next came all the sushi rolls and the shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura was okay, it had a nice batter to it, not too thick. However, one thing that bugged me was that they do not devein the shrimp. No one likes to take a bite into a shrimp tempura to see the black intestinal tract still intact in the shrimp, which is kind of off-putting. The tiger roll was okay, the only thing is the sauce used and the amount that was used was a bit overwhelming. The spider roll was also okay, the soft shell crabs had a thicker batter to it than most places of I've seen and had from. I did, however, really loved the chopped surf clam roll. I don't normally order surf clam, so I was expecting much, but it was a delightful surprise. The tuna bakudan was so-so, and a bit dry (due to the lack of sauce). Overall, I'd probably wouldn't be returning here again because of the service and the food. Also, it seems like they were a bit understaffed, as the few tables that next to us had left a long time ago, but the tables were left uncleared and uncleaned.
