As you enter, there are four Blue Angels Jets in formation suspended from the ceiling. As with most Visitor Information Centers, there are restrooms, brochures, and places to sit and relax. It is right on the Pensacola Bay. This is a good place to stop in before heading across the Pensacola Bay Bridge to Gulf Breeze or Pensacola Beach and beyond. There is a sidewalk along the water's edge. It was closed in Aug. of 2022 due to damage from Hurricane Sally. I would definitely recommend coming in and picking up some brochures!

I…read morewas impressed with their beautifully landscaped grounds, & building exterior done up in a Beach themed exterior decor, featuring a stainless steel dolphin fountain and the beauty of the palm trees, with the building's light white exterior to make the mood feel so bright and cheery. Their interior is just beautiful featuring their Cyprus wood, along the rotunda with beached themed art, by local artists decorated about the center.   I know there's apps that can tell me about things in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, but I prefer the old school way of visiting any tourist destination, by visiting the visitors center,as it will offer more information and activities, the app might have missed and stays up to date as far as deals at local restaurants & shops. I found the ladies there to be very informative and were able to answer the questions about best places to eat & shop as sometimes those working at the tourist centre will divulge the best kept secrets most tourists & even some locals don't know about or haven't discovered yet. As nice as it was to look through & pick up brochures for myself & friends. I'm off to enjoy a sunny day in paradise. Before my mom died her favorite story to tell was a story about me, at this Florida welcome center, when I was just 4 years old. One day we were traveling from my grandparents house in Louisiana (her parents home) back to our home, here in Pensacola. We lived here in Pirate'cola when I was a baby, my father was in the service here. Anyway, as the story goes, we were driving back from grandmas house about 2 and a half hours drive. Everyone wanted to stop for orange juice & I had to pee. I was 4 so orange juice was very important & I was very excited to get my orange juice. Anyway, back in those days I was a little majorette in Kindergarten. I was a very good baton twirler, had a snazzy little blue sequined one piece body suit & white cowboy boots that I wore on the field at the football game. Anyway, I was the smallest majorette with my tiny baton & tiny tiny little white cowboy boots. I was so adorable! I wore them to my grandmothers to show her how cute I was, obviously, and was still wearing my cute little white boots on the way home. So I waited & waited so excited to get my orange juice but it was taking longer than I expected to pull into the Florida Welcome Center. We pull in & I jumped out of the car, running to the bathroom to pee so I could go get my Orange Juice! But i didn't make it up the hill & peed in my little white boots. When my mom got up the hill to the entrance, I was barefoot sitting on the grass. She asked me where are your little white boots & I pointed at the trash can. lol After I peed in my little white boots, I obviously did not need them anymore. duh. Anyway, I did get my orange juice & a new pair of little white boots the next week as I was taught to never litter. Till this very day, every time I come into Pensacola & see that big Florida Welcome sign, I always remember how much I love Florida, my memories of my mother, her exquisitely untarnished love for me & the smell of fresh new white cowboy boots. She is a such two faced woman. Shiny and warm like a sun flower when visitors are caucasian; ice cold and rude when visitors are asian. We were not so sure till we see another Korean family is equally poorly treated, while two whites families are welcomed properly. why have some racist working at the visitor center? i doubt this is the impression pensacola want to leave to tourists.

There is also a hiking trail on the north side of the road. Just a short jaunt from the restrooms is a boardwalk over the dunes to a mobi-mat that goes most of the way out to the beach. The current was quite strong, so keep an eye on little ones. Overall it was wonderful visit, especially at just $3 a car load.
