Visited the commissary this morning as soon as they opened. Grumpy/rude employees especially self checkout older lady yelling from behind her "register " she can easily come talk to me rather than yelling across the room. Asking why I chose to void an item that was priced wrong from the shelf to the register. Worst customer service! She's been rude before but I have never had to approach her boss to let her know the incident or interaction. read more

When I stay with my Grandma for a number of days, the NAS Whidbey Commissary is where we usually go grocery shopping. Occasionally, we will take a look and see if/what they have for bird seed as well. The location is especially convenient if we also want to go to the Navy Exchange looking for presents or just general shopping. The store itself is clearly laid out, easy to navigate, and items are well priced. Produce has been fresh in my experience and the dairy offerings varied. In addition to more standard grocery items, we have come here to get ingredients for holiday meals and they typically have what we are looking for. Charged us for nearly 15 pounds of organic celery, actually purchased 1 pound 3 ounces regular celery. Charged for 3 jars of dates, purchased 2. Only processed 1 coupon, 50 cents, "forgot" to process about $5.50 in coupons. Charged us for a pomelo, what is that? We did not purchase that product. Charged us for a 1 pound beefsteak tomato, when we purchased a 4 ounce vine ripened tomato. Management said we have to drive back (4 hours round trip plus ferry cost) to get a refund for their new cashier's mistakes. Would not credit our card because "we need to physically scan your military ID for a refund." This is not a "refund", it is an OVERCHARGE. For a total overcharge of $32.01, WE have to be inconvenienced to make a huge trip back to the store? We were on Whidbey Base for a special event and as military retirees resent the terrible "customer service" from this store. The erroneous charges are being disputed with our credit card - what a hassle! Wonder why the commissaries aren't doing well? read more

Shopped here for over 15 years. Great prices, a great selection of natural and organic foods, and beautiful-wonderful and happy people to greet & hug at every single shopping trip. I used to go this commissary quite frequently but stopped due to the depressing/negative atmosphere. I had to steel myself before going in there. My husband flat out refuses to go. The only positive memory I have of shopping here was the awesome sushi chef - he is the only reason I would consider returning. I don't think the OH commissary beats Walmart or Safeway on prices, and, ironically, Safeway has a greater variety of healthy options, including fresher produce. The staff are also friendlier at Walmart and Safeway. These are definitely areas in which the commissary could improve. If you have commissary privileges and are in the neighborhood, the Smoky Point Commissary in Marysville is a much better shopping experience. They have a limited range of items as well, but the store doesn't feel as cramped, and the staff are consistently friendly and helpful. read more

went there on a monday afternoon. there was only 3 self checkout lines open and no other lines were open. waited 20 minutes. also to mention. out of stock on some grocery items. why is it always whidbey? i can go shopping for groceries in marysville renton etc and have no problem. read more

A great grocery store for all the basics! You're better off checking your local newspaper ads for deals on veggies and fruit. I really think you can get them cheaper else where like at Saars. Some things are definitely cheaper at the commissary, but if you're a real stickler for find good deals on products then I highly recommend doing some research first. That way you really make sure you're getting the best bang for your buck! They have SOME ethnic food, but again you would be better off going to Saars. I think they have a larger ice cream section than the ethnic food section! Their staff is always friendly during checkout times. Once I even had to ask someone in the back if they had more stock in the back of a specific item and she took the time to go look for me and even find out when the next shipment of it was coming in. They just recently closed down their seafood department. Not sure if another vendor will take their place. Lots of parking, but it is shared with the NEX. If you are expecting or handicap, there is parking on the right side of the building. I like to go shopping here between opening and 1pm. After that it starts to pick up. read more

The store is clean, the staff are friendly, and the prices are great. Decent variety of international items that one may have gotten accustomed to getting at other bases, but the selection of organic products throughout the store could be better. I love how inexpensive my groceries cost here but the staffs are rude af (especially the Filipino ladies). I'm also Asian and I know how hard it is to have an accent. But fr though, there's no need to give an attitude. Also, the self check-outs are ALWAYS a pain. I don't ever experience that issue at Safeway's self check-outs. read more

Always appreciate that we are lucky enough to have a Commissary in the Whidbey area. Workers are helpful and courteous always! Helps provide jobs for our young teens, and older Military Family members! Can't beat the deli or meat department on custom cuts or custom food items. As my three-star-rating indicates, this place is A-Ok. I've been going here for years, and I can usually find most of what I'm looking for when I shop there. Since it's a military grocery store, most of the prices can't be beat, but I do wish they carried more organic products in all areas of the store. There are a few fruits and veggies, but they carry exactly NO organic meat of any kind, or even grass-fed beef, as far as I'm aware. The staff is friendly and helpful, if you can find someone when you need help. That's usually the tricky part. I also wish they didn't close on Mondays to stock, it's proven very inconvenient in the past. Plus, because that's their stocking day, they don't seem to do much during the week ... Shopping on a Sunday can prove very frustrating, since a lot of aisles (like bread, dairy, and meat) are practically empty by then. But I'll probably always shop here, even though I often pick up a couple things elsewhere ... Just can't beat the prices of what they do have on base. read more

This commissary is pretty basic. I hate that it is closed on Monday and only open till 7pm. And now because of the furlough, they also have to be closed on Tuesdays all summer. Erg. But the people who work here make it my grocery store of choice. They are all friendly and willing to help anytime. Their selection of organic and natural products is growing, and I appreciate that. However, I do wish they would have some organic meat- we have several wonderful farms on our Island that could help with the supply that is currently in high demand. Plus, the local produce would be an added bonus. The prices here are average, maybe a little less, than at the other local grocery stores. And because of the military community's tendency to have been well-traveled, there is a great selection of European goods that are super pricey anywhere else. I always go here around the Holidays for real Lebkuchen from Nürnberg, my old hometown, plus giant jars of Nutella! read more

I like that this commissary is so close to where I live and has prices that are less ridiculous than the grocery stores here in Oak Harbor, but their produce section is not great. Barely even "good". Other than that- it's fine. Clean store that is well organized, and friendly staff as well. read more
