They sport a huge number of branches across the peninsula. Their library card is easy to get - apply on line for most uses, go 'full bore' by presenting proof of local residence (since we just moved here, an insurance billing statement with local address and my WDL picture ID sufficed) DVD's, books, Kindle and e-books, magazines, computers, Wi-Fi and even a limited amount of free printing (which renews weekly)! I used the printer for some color Christmas letters, worked very well! Staff was friendly and helpful. COVID protocols observed. Parking adequate. Since it's small, its might be hard to find a quiet spot, and I think some of the less fortunate use it to charge their cell phones and use the wi-fi here. Check it out! (library pun intended)

The Timberland has lots of modern features; digital books, computers, printers and a book sharing system (like, if a book is at a different branch, they get it over to ya). Nicer than you would think furniture, and a great kids area. Pacific County has a real gem here for its populace. And great volunteers to boot, keeping it running. I come here mainly to print the few occasional documents I need. I mean, trying to keep a home printer, with ink cartridges that cost hundreds and then dry up in 6mos is ridiculous. The library allots resident card holders a reasonable amount of free printing per month. The library has four computer stations at this branch. Anyway, if you live here and havent been in, come in, get inspired, read something new. Its YOUR library!

Wonderful children's programs, great reading advice, a constant book sale, free magazines, Internet, and peace and tranquility make this one of my favourite libraries. It is always so refreshing to see some of the local children not only use the library for their studies, but also volunteer by cleaning, organizing, etc. These special children restore my faith in today's youth. Smart, polite, and goal oriented reflections of solid parenting and values.

Cape Disappointment is the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast of America and the…read moresouthern most lighthouse on the coast of Washington state. It is located within the Cape Disappointment State Park so you'll need a Washington State Discovery Pass to visit. As of this review, the cost to purchase a one day pass is $10 or $30 for an annual pass. The pass can be registered to two separate vehicles, but can only be used on one vehicle at a time. It can be purchased at the park entrance booth, or if the machine is working, from the self serve kiosk at the parking lot nearest the trailhead. The machine was not working the day I visited. Parking can be a challenge at the trailhead as there are only a small number of spaces and they can fill up quickly. The rolling trail to the lighthouse is 0.6 miles, roundtrip with about 150' of elevation gain. It's rated as an easy hike but there are some moderately steep (but paved) sections on the final approach to the lighthouse. The rest of the trail is dirt and can be muddy at times. If you're wondering how such a picturesque location received its name, it was due to Captain John Meares' experience there on July 6, 1788 while trying to seek shelter from the turbulent waters where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. Meares wrote, "Disappointment continued to accompany us...we can safely exert that no river San Rogue exists." It was out of that frustration that Meares christened the cape, "Cape Disappointment." The views, scenery and history are all great reasons to visit this place...you won't be disappointed by Cape Disappointment!

This is a historic old building in the near ghost town of Skamokawa, Washington. The structure was…read morein bad repair until a few years ago when they did some major refurbishments. It's looked great for ~ ten years or more. They have various events there. Usually on weekends. There was a craft fair there this past weekend. Be sure to visit the general store across the street. There is an old gazebo out back that it very photogenic. Also a nice view down river. There's a slough with houseboats and other craft that will also appeal to photographers. Skamokawa is a nice stop in between Longview and Naselle.

Driving past this church for years as I entered the Long Beach Peninsula, I didn't realize it was a…read morewalking path filled with history about the Chinook Indian Nation. Part of the Lewis & Clark National History Trail, this location is close to Dismal Nitch (east side of the Astoria-Megler Bridge) where the Lewis & Clark expedition was trapped for six 'dismal' days before eventually crossing the Columbia River and building Fort Clatsop. They used this location as a survey point for Clark's detailed map of the mouth of the Columbia River. This park pays tribute to the original inhabitants, the Chinook. By the parking lot off Highway 101 you can walk to an elevated platform (ADA accessible) that begins with the history of the Chinook. As you follow the trail towards the church, the path loops around and follows their story through the present day. This location was originally the trading port for the tribe and with Europeans arriving to the area. Well maintained with some wear and tear (and minimal graffiti) on some of the placards, it was a nice roadside stop and had beautiful views of the bridge and Astoria on a clear day. The highlight for me were the replica Chinookan canoes. PLEASE NOTE that the map plot is not accurate and the park is just west of the Astoria-Megler Bridge before you enter the town of Chinook. Well I finally just pulled off to check it out and solve the mystery. Turns out it's a marker of sorts, filled with information about its history as a Chinook village and part of the Lewis and Clark trail. There's a path to follow with multiple story boards along the way documenting different facts concerning the area. Unfortunately, some of the boards are worn a lot and no longer really legible. But for the most part things are in tact. There are a handful of parking spots available (no restroom). The paths are maintained and the grounds flat. It should be easy for anyone to cover in a half hour or so, with nice views of the Columbia as you wander. While maybe not an epic stop, we found it worthwhile to stop and learn a bit while stretching the legs.

Read about this visitors center online and stopped here before tracking down any of the area Goonies spots. The visitors center has quite the array of Goonies merchandise that is for sale, from stickers to Sloth socks they have it all. The nice lady who was working on the day I stopped by was literally the nicest lady I've ever encountered. I'm sure she sees ton of visitors during the year but didn't not seem bothered at all with what I am sure was probably her millionth time letting people know where to go to see the sites. She even pulled out a map and highlighted what places were the most see spots and where to get the best pictures, as well as where to park to avoid getting tickets. She easily spent upwards of 20-30 minutes explaining to my buddy and I some of the history of the town as well as the history involving The Goonies. She even told us about an upcoming anniversary celebration the following year for The Goonies that I will now be making a trip back for because of talking with her. I highly recommend stopping by this visitors center to kick off your site seeing tour. They will get you squared away and will do so with the brightest of smiles.

My friends and I came to Astoria to visit the sites where they filmed "The Goonies". Since we really did not know where to start, we started here. The gentleman at the desk did not shun us for being "tourists" in this lovely town, but actually seemed genuinely happy that we came to visit. He provided us with maps of the best sites to see (since other movies like Kindergarden Cop were also filmed here), the best routes to get around and great places to eat (we were also on our own self-made brewery tour). You can't go wrong by checking this place out. At the end of the trip, we came to the conclusion that visiting Astoria was one of the highlights of our trip-- of course due in part by the kind people at the Chamber of Commerce.
