Another amazing year in the books with my family at Nash Ranch pumpkin patch. Each year they truly have upped their game. Adding local craft and food vendors as well as making the corn maze extra special and fun. The petting zoo is always my girls favorite and although they've outgrown the face painting, they never pass up the train ride or the play time in the bounce house. The last weekend of September, I had the good fortune of being with a non-profit that guided cars for parking for a donation for youth gardening. It was a spectacular experience. The property is a treat to drive through the old oaks and Autumn light. As a farmers daughter, I love seeing the rows of farm equipment. The Nash Ranch (NR) is Shasta County's "original" Pumpkin Patch (PP) since 1991. NR is a real working farm that actually grows its own pumpkins, as well as a host of other things (i.e., alfalfa, oats, barley, and bird seed millet). Family farms are hard to hang onto...the costs roll in all year without anything coming in ie water, labor, seed, taxes. And then there is a summer with 119 degree summer days with weeks of triple digits. Pumpkin production is lowered. Once again, I was here in Redding visiting relatives, and decided to look for something for me and the boy to do. Seeing as how it's October -and we are Yelp's unofficial PumpKings- we decided to check out a local Patch, and this is the first one that came up. A majority (if not all) of the proceeds of the PP here at NR go towards local charities/clubs (e.g., FFA, 4-H, library, Boy Scouts, etc). NR offers up the usual PP fun--on a smaller scale. Here's the rundown: Parking ($2)- When you turn into the farm, off the Old Oregon Trail, you'll follow a clearly marked road for about a mile until you reach the PP. I was a little perturbed at having to pay for parking, but the $2 does go towards the local library. Corn Maze- Usually, NR has a really amazing Corn Maze that we can run through, but due to the current drought and water restrictions, it had to be sacrificed--for the good of the Pumpkins. Bummer... Hay Bale Maze (free)- Nice, little hay bale maze setup for the kids to run around in. Not very impressive, but the boy and his new little buddies approved. Pony Rides ($5/$15pic)- The boy's not into ponies, so we skipped this. Train ($2)- It's essentially a steam engine shell that's been put on some kind of tractor. Pretty fun -and bumpy!- five minute ride that takes you around the PP. Not the best ride, but it's a train! Bouncy House ($2)- One of the nicer bouncy houses we've seen; it's got ladders, a slide and stuff to plow through. Throw in some new friends and you've got an instant hit! Tot Lot (free)- Cute little area setup for the really young kids. It's just a bunch of slides, houses and misc toys for kids to get the energy out. Petting Zoo ($1)- Run by the local 4-H Club, they had a nice, kid-friendly selection of baby goats, piglets, sheep and roosters with more animals to come (according to the lady). Picnic area- If you choose to bring your own lunch, there is a shaded picnic area provided for you. If not they have a little setup to sell hot dogs, and the like. Pumpkins (35¢/lb regular & 50¢/lb specialties)- Last, but not least, are the stars of the show--the Pumpkins! NR offers up a good selection with over 30 varieties of pumpkins, winter squash, gourds, and decorative indian corn. You can actually take a wheel barrow, and go right out into the PP and pick your pumpkin straight off the vine! Not too many Patches I've been to offer that. From what my sister-in-law was telling me, at the end of the year they take all the leftover pumpkins; put them in a crate; and drop them right back into the field from a helicopter! How much fun would that be?!? The best way to describe this PP is "nice." Everything is cool, but nothing really blows you away; I was originally going to give it a 3-star rating, but I factored in the charitable aspect, and the fact that everyone I talked to, who was working the PP, was really friendly and interactive--even after a full day of 90° temps! This place is adorable!!! I felt that everything was reasonably priced and there were enough things to keep us all busy. We enjoyed the blow up obstacle course, playground area, petting zoo, train ride, pony rides and the concession stands with fresh squeezed lemon aid :) We also loved being able to walk into the fields of pumpkins and pick the perfect one off the vine. I don't live in Redding but when I come up to visit I will make sure it's around this time of year again so I can revisit!!!! read more

Went there today with my service dog and the man was extremely rude to come up and ask me I front of a bunch of people what my service dog does for me. It was extremely embarrassing to have to explain why I need my service dog. Super unprofessional and rude! Don't go there with your service animals or else you'll be ask what your condition is. It's very expensive. You have to bring cash for parking, it's $4 to park for some reason.. the money takes the fun out of everything considering you have to pay for all the activities.. leave the parking out of it read more

Took the kids there this morning. 5 kids and 3 adults. I only gave it 2 stars because the kids did have fun. However theppppp prices they charge are absolutely outrageous. Everything was 4 dollars except the corn maze. It was 8 dollars. There is the petting area. With 2goats 2 chickens a pony and a lama that were in another cage, and 2 pigs in a cage. bouncy houses the train. Plus pumpkins were 70 cents a pound for each. Oh. Don't forget the 4 dollars for parking!!!! So $16 a person $160without pumpkins. Which we did not get. Decided to take the kids to Walmart for those. So disappointing read more

My nephew went with his school to this pumpkin patch today and the lady who was running the festivities was extremely rude. Also, they do not accommodate special needs children. When asked if they could, the lady in charge replied with "they shouldn't be here." Very shocking indeed. Will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I love this place. I know from the surface it looks like any other pumpkin patch and everything seems to cost money from the parking to the petting zoo. HOWEVER, if you start to talk to the people you will learn that Nash's supports their local community by letting a different youth group sponsor those different areas every weekend. Meaning when you spend $5 at the parking you are really donating to a local youth club including 4H, FFA, Youth Rodeo. AMAZING!!!! I don't mind spending this kind of money. Simpler than Hawes farm and a lot closer. And best haunted house iv ever experienced and probably ever will. Friday and Saturday night the corn maze and haunt are open till midnight. During the day its more family oriented and at night more for the teens and adults. read more

We love Nash Ranch. Have been going here since we moved to NorCal 10 years ago. No frills, a few fun activities for the kids and a HUGE property to run and run and run and find that perfect pumpkin. Employees are always friendly and they often host a local kids group for parking/corn maze proceeds to go to as long as that group works it. Nothing greedy or overpriced about this place, really down to earth, fun, PUMPKIN patch, not a theme park. LOVE Nash ranch. read more

This is the go-to place for pumpkins and other fall festivities. The property is massive, has a warm inviting ambiance by day day and by night, a spooky feel for those who dare explore the corn maze and haunted house. I love this place and so do my kids. read more

It is so dusty and the price is not worth it at all. Besides the admission fee, you pay extra for every single ride. It's very dusty and the workers are very rude. The other pumpkin patch (hawes) is much better for the price and you don't pay extra. Not worth it ln my opinion. read more

Great old fashioned family fun at a reasonable price. This is a true pumpkin patch and has all the makings for a great day with your family. This is a wonderful feel good give back to the community attraction. Almost all the money that is raised is a fund raiser for local groups such as 4H.Attractions such as the train and bouncy house are priced so everyone can have a great time. some of the actors are great and understand human decency, others however need a rain check and need to leave the people having mental breakdowns the HELL ALONE! and certainly if the actors are scaring somebody that bad they shouldn't say "if you can't handle it then get out" TEN MINUTES INTO THE ATTRACTION. you also need to not be rude if somebody is having a panic attack and give them space do NOT be angry and rude with somebody already having a hard time, it's hard enough building up the courage to even get in there, so PLEASE i get it's your job and being scared is fun but there's a difference between fun and mental breakdowns.
