Sort of like mini physical history books.... However, if you saw my place you might think I was a minimalist (depending on the day I last feverously cleaned, of course). I don't collect very much, but I like to look.... and unlike many situations I can look AND touch. Woo! Wandering in to LIFEC's space is like going through a giant garage sale in an senior apartment complex basement at the end of the month when everyone moves out. Sure, there's junk but you'll also stumble upon so. many. TREASURES! Do you have an empty bedroom that needs something of interest? They probably have a set of nightstands, or a bench to put your shoes on. Maybe even a swanky vintage dresser from the 40s? Live out your mid century modern dreams, or collect pieces to create your own story. I've wandered in to search for props for parties (maps, globes, vintage luggage for a bridal shower!), to fill the gap in spaces in my own place (unique beer steins are where it's at) and even to get some basics (A set of folding chairs! A must have PRE-COVID). Prices are higher than a garage sale, for sure. I know you CAN haggle with them but I honestly won't. They're a charity/nonprofit. The last time I spoke with the owner I could tell both him and his staff had huge hearts. They honestly care about people and need as much resources (and capital) to bring about the the most change... Stop in. You won't regret it! Even if you don't take any treasures home.

Went to a Knights of Columbus dinner in their new venue. The dinner was held in the downstairs…read morepart of the building and I believe was the first large event that they held. There was a bar to hang out at and they had set up tables so that people could sit and eat. The building itself was rather small but was fine for the event. Speeches were made, prayers were said and there was a 50/50 raffle. I checked out the main meeting room and it was just what a person would expect. I have no pictures because that would have been weird considering no one knew me. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's group so to join that club you need to be male and a practicing Catholic. Im female and Jewish so that leaves me out but if I am invited back for a special event, I will happily show up.

Science Museum of Long Island on Plandome road in Manhasset is a place to visit on a nice day…read more Good for the family. Use GPS as there are some winding hilly roads to get there. Follow the signs. Thereis parking to the side of the main house. This visit had a tour of plants . There is a pond, fire pit and picnic tables throughout the area.it is a nature preserve park with many native plants along with some for sale. I suggest wearing a hat and sunscreen. While there are paths, sturdy shoes or work boots are good too along with a bottle of water. I did sera sign for bathrooms as well. They have a compost pile on the side.if you happen to have peelings from vegetables feel free to drop them off on your visit and learn how they make black gold for the soil.

We had a group of about 15 Cub scouts there finishing the ferns and animal related topic badge. The lady who gave a lesson about how to track or discover animals around us during our daily life, but the lesson was in a small room with no AC. The boys were not interested in the discussion at all. The session was informative to the parents, but the lady seemed unable to handle younger kids. We then took a nature walk outside and the boys were very into the hike. The trail was clearly marked and easy to access by foot. Parking lot was relatively small. Overall it was an okay experience.

Visit Date: May 14, 2020…read more I've been trying to visit different nature preserves and parks to hike in when I do my Thursday hiking now that I have more time to exercise with this whole virus. So I came here for a recent hike. Technically I snuck in here while it was still closed because I walked under the gate that was across the way you enter the property, but when I left I walked out of an exit that was in the woods around the property so technically I could have gotten on the property anyway. I didn't vandalize anything or cause a disruption so hopefully whoever reads this review won't try to arrest me for being on the premises in the morning while they were closed. Anyway I had a great time, I did almost two miles of hiking, I enjoyed all the nature, looked at the mansion, took a lot of pictures and had a good peaceful time while listening to my audiobook. I'd definitely come back here again. Long Island doesn't really have mountainous places to hike but the nature preserves and forest areas are pretty awesome in certain places. The environmental association is a place I'd recommend for hiking.

There's always tons of items to look through, and most things are only between 99¢-$4.99!! The prices are unbeatable and there's always great treasure to be found. It's family owned and operated and they have huge sales all the time, including 50% off storewide sales!! New media goes out every Thursday and most of it is only 49¢-99¢!! They have tons of books, CDs, Vinyl records, collectibles, vintage items, literally everything!! They accept donations at 2 bags per person per day, and it's all used very well! They have a lot of waste initiatives put into place and work with lots of non profit organizations locally! Everything is priced super cheap to move product fast and make space to put out new items!! This way, customers are able to get great finds for super cheap and they can prevent anything from having to go into a dumpster, unlike most other thrift stores that throw lots of stuff out! Even broken items are bagged up together in lots and sold for parts for 99¢ to prevent it from being thrown out!! The jukebox in the back is free to play and the walls are decorated beautifully! The community center serves educational, recreational and the exercising needs of the community as well as neighboring communities and is able to be used for a nominal fee for those of the community and a slightly higher fee for those who don't live within it. The staff is very helpful and courteous in helping you meet your need in doing whatever it is you'd like to accomplish during your visit. I'll continue to support the center and encourage those who live within the community of westbury or neighboring town to stop by for a tour of the facility and support.

For the summer they also offer instructional classes 6 days a week (different sports), that my sons can join in on, and they fall under the umbrella of the nominal monthly fee that's already paid for. I asked if they can do the guided tour, and we were told they have staff along the way to answer questions...not one human in site! So unfortunate, you guys really need that element back! By the way, I kind of feel bad for the goat that has his pen right next to the trex as big as a house...I've seen Jurassic Park, they are not besties. I'm sure that goat staring him down all day is scared for his life. :(
