Cherry & Chocolate
Carol C.

I've heard good things about Nata and have been waiting to try their Portuguese egg tarts. Since I was at the Fremont Sunday Market, I was fortunate enough to pick up a few of these treats. There were only two flavors left - chocolate with cocoa nibs and cherry. I got two of each, waited until I got home and enjoyed each flavor in my car. Oh my!!! I just love how crispy and flakey the crust is and the egg custard is silky smooth. Not super sweet, just right. I can't wait to try the other flavors, including the original and look forward to their return at the Shoreline Farmer's Market. Thanks Marie B. for putting this on my radar!

Finally a chance to pull over and savor one pasteis de nata (3/24/24)

I miss the pasteis de nata available from a Portuguese restaurant awhile back in Greenwood. However, I happen to see via IG an indie business, Nata Seattle, having a pop-up hosted at Atulea on Phinney Ridge on 3/24/24. I'm glad I made sure to place and pay for an order ahead of time. I also showed up before my 12noon pickup time (I was second) as the sidewalk line grew behind me. The box handed to me was still warm and not fully closed. Talk about freshly baked! I had other errands to run in Seattle, but finally a chance to eat one at a park by Lake Washington and another chilled one for dessert after returning from dinner. Delicious, with a lemon citrus finish! I bought six regular ones and 1 chocolate with cocoa nibs for me and The Homie to savor. I appreciate Atulea hosting their first pop up today featuring Nata-Seattle. A fairly convenient location in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood. Parking was a bit of a challenge because there are other popular spots in proximity. Pro tips: Follow via IG @nata_seattle for the latest news and pre-order via hotplate.com link to guarantee the flavors you prefer.

Hours for online order and West Seattle storefront on their website as of May 17, 2024.

This place is for those who have extra cash around, so that they could purchase a model of a fetus in various stages of development, at prices comparable to a real fetus. The shop is crammed full of antique-y type stuff, like curio cabinets, funky old chairs, old old opera glasses, animal heads, large boots of bygone years - The sales person is very hands off, and this is a store for browsing, not for people to follow you around, asking if you want to buy some strange-looking objects that resemble ancient butt plugs. Not that I can't appreciate this stuff in all its overpriced glory. It's a good day when you can finally get your hands on these ice creams. I had been seeing them all…read moreover IG and heard how quickly they sell out. I tried twice before and no luck. They went quicker than a Sat shoe release and I buy lots of shoes. I randomly checked my email one day and was notified they were in stock so off to the website I go to snag some ice cream. I was expecting flavors to be sold out but was so surprised to see they weren't. I bought a Nasi lemak, strawberry crunch cake, rose milk tea, and blueberry basil lemon. All very good. Not overly sweet which I loveeee. Flavors are creative and very unique -Nasi Lemak: 4/5 surprising really good. Can't really taste the coconut as the peanut flavor is a tad stronger but the pandan is definitely there. Very subtle and not overpowering. I'm indifferent about the peanut flavor and if given the option would use less since it does kind of drown out other flavors. Overall really delicious though! -Strawberry Crunch Cake: 4/5 reminds me a lot of strawberry cheesecake. There is chunks of cake mixed into the ice cream and it's really nice. I was hoping it was going to be like the strawberry shortcake but still not disappointed. -Rose Milk Tea: 2/5 really really strong. I really enjoy lavender and thought I'd enjoy rose just as much. I do love the pieces of edible rose pedals but it's a tad sweet for me and so fragrant that it reminds me of potpourri. It's definitely not something I want to be reminded of when having ice cream. It's a great flavor for someone that enjoys rose but I will definitely pass on this next time. -Blueberry Basil Lemon: 5/5 this is my absolute favorite! I love blueberry, basil, and lemon all as separate flavors. I'm quite fond of them to say the least so when I saw that there was a flavor with all of these combine. I was very intrigued, it was like it was specially made for me haha. Very different and I'm surprise how well they all work together. Wish the lemon flavor was more incorporate in the ice cream instead of just in the middle but regardless it's delicious and I'll be savoring it until I finish the pint. While the ice cream are a bit on the pricier side at $14 a pop. I'm all about supporting local business and really happy I got to try some :) I'll probably try to buy other flavors in the future but I think I've satisfied my curiosity for the time being.

You place an order starting the Sunday before to be picked up anytime 1-3pm the following Sunday at The Station Coffee shop next to the Beacon Hill light rail station, so I did precisely that last week to try to Rose Milk Tea and Ube Marshmallow flavors. At $14 a pint (phew tax included!), it is quite pricey though these are local and Kryse herself makes the ice cream in small batches. It is definitely in line with premium ice cream, with a nice complex mix of flavors, some of them quite innovative. Rose Milk Tea - 3/5 I love how they have rose petals actually mixed in, and the flavor is quite fragrant. However, the batch of ice cream for this is a bit powdery and flaky, so it wasn't smooth like it should be. This ice cream was also a bit too sweet for me. Ube Marshmallow - 5/5 Anything with ube is great, but this ice cream flavor takes it up a notch! Although I placed the order for this apparently hours after they launched the upcoming week's orders, this flavor was not sold out, but it instantly sold out this week for the upcoming week. The marshmallow has a nice roasted flavor that pairs really well with the ube itself. It is also not as sweet as the Rose Milk Tea - "not too sweet" my favorite level of sweetness. I will likely prepare in advance and order these ice cream again, as the flavors seem to be rotating quite often, though I will reserve it for celebrations and special occasions as the prices are a bit high to treat this as a "stress-eat" ice cream.

My review is primarily about the service. My family came in for dine-in pie ("for here") but the…read moreslices we ordered were taken from the "to-go" fridge. I saw this and repeated that we were taking our pie "for here" because it was a little loud for the staff to hear us, and maybe they didn't catch the initial request? Instead of slicing us a fresh cut from the pie at that point, they then scooped out our pies from the plastic "to-go" containers and put them on plates. I was off-put by that, but I always worry people will throw away food at that point and I'm not about that, so, I didn't make a fuss even though I thought it was not how you should present a slice of pie, when you state you will slice any pie. Later, I think it was an owner or manager... I saw THEM fresh-slice a different customer's slice of pie and put it on a plate. Maybe there's a disconnect in the staff training, or expectations? Why offer customers a pre-packaged slice then scoop it out of the container sacrificing presentation when they are dine-in? The pie itself was delicious as usual (thank you), but the service made me feel inequitable because it didn't make sense and someone else got a different level or kind of service. If you are trying to move product from a pie that had already been sliced and packaged, you could offer that at a discount. Especially if it's "Day Old". That's how old-school bakeries do it.

My mom and I stopped on for lunch when we were near the Junction. We ultimately got a Chicken Pot…read morePie and a Shepherd's Pie (plus one to go for my dad) which we really enjoyed. Nice filling and great crust. The place is small, and very little in the way of seating, but we were able to snag a couple of spots. Service was...meh. We'd come in mid-afternoon, and they'd been slammed earlier with a very heavy lunch rush. This meant most of the savory pies were gone. When all of the pies we'd enquired about were out, we'd decided to head out and try another place. As we were leaving I noticed a sign promoting a couple of other pies, namely the Chicken Pot and Shepherd's. They had a few of those cooking in the oven, as it turns out, to be ready in 10. Why were these not suggested, when the server knew what we were looking for, I dont really understand. So, we ordered 2 Chicken Pot pies, waited the 10 minutes for them to cook, only to find out when they were done, there was really only 1 Chicken Pot Pie. Why didn't they know this 10 mins before? Fortunately my mom was accommodating and was happy enough to have the Shepherd's instead. Happy enough with what we bought and ate. The pies are tasty. Not very happy with the service.
