Well, I wanted a harpist at my event as a surprise for my mother, who is also a harpist, and after the performance Mom waxed eloquent on VeeRonna's technique. I hired  VeeRonna to perform for the cocktail hour of my little girl's Bat Mitzvah. Given that harpists are generally hired for weddings, the guest list for my event probably didn't constitute her standard audience. VeeRonna spent hours planning the playlist and corresponding with me and spent further hours learning the theme songs from video games to please the kids, and boy did she ever make the kids happy! For several songs folks young and old stood around the harp singing along! I have to say that as far as composing a playlist for the adults was concerned, I certainly didn't have to worry about VeeRonna needing to master Jewish-themed music. She already had such a fine repertoire of Jewish music that she didn't have to learn a thing! She even played "Simon Tov" as my daughter made her grand entrance to the cocktail hour, and of course, VeeRonna had a huge range of classical music at her literal fingertips (such as Debussy's Premiere Arabesque, which she played as a tribute to my daughter--who had learned the Premiere Arabesque on the piano) and VeeRonna artfully interwove classical selections between pop and Jewish ones. To summarize, in VeeRonna, you have a technically brilliant musician who is fun, easy going, and accommodating. If you are on the fence, do hire VeeRonna; she is great musician and a mensch!

I took it to the store today and Robbie took an entire set of tuning pegs off a broken headstock and replaced the three tuners. Considering the circumstances, I applaud Robbie for his assistance and professionalism. Now, the bad. I called multiple times and sent an email hoping to resolve this problem without having to go to their physical store location (this is why I ordered online). Unable to speak with anyone, I felt it necessary to to go to their physical location. I asked Robbie if there was some way he could compensate me for my time and trouble. He declined saying that he could not authorize any compensation. My expectation would have been a free t-shirt, or maybe a set of strings, perhaps a few guitar picks, a discount on a future purchase - a small item of nominal value to their organization to keep a customer happy. Meh, it didn't happen. Probably won't do business here again. Oh, as an aside, this store is not open Saturday or Sunday...that makes it difficult for me to make it to this location during the week with traffic and where I work. Featuring Bill Jones and Nancy Osborne on vocals, they cover a wide range of songs from the 1940's to the 1960's. We've attended several of their monthly dances in the past, and hope to go again tonight for their February Valentine-themed one. The hotel sets up a large dance floor in the middle of their ballroom, likely used for weddings and other big events. The admission is $10 cash. Food and drinks are available to order from the servers working the evening. Doors open at 6:30 PM, with dancing beginning at 7:00. Bandleader Selvin and the two singers introduce the numbers, occasionally giving some behind the scenes details about the song, songwriter, or other history. Ballroom dances which work with the musical offerings lean toward fox trot, tango, waltz, and swing. For those who aren't into those dance styles, listening to a live band that's performed together for a long time and is so strong musically is also a treat.

You're not allowed to bring in food or drinks because they sell those items inside, and they also probably don't want you bringing in anything that isn't permitted. They had plenty of staff working the event, from security guards to ushers, helping people find their seats. As for the ambience, the place was well-decorated throughout the inside it was actually really nice. I would definitely recommend it if there's a show you want to see and it's being held at the Civic Arts Plaza. Don't hesitate to buy those tickets just be aware that you'll probably have to pay for parking.

So I call the box office...they told me as a 1 time courtesy, they will refund me in 7 business days. It's been almost a month. I received nothing. So I called them just now only to be told I won't be getting a refund. The rep even acknowledged there were a lot of angry people. I encourage everyone to do a chargeback on their cards if you attended. It was straight up theft. $120 to play the little Mermaid Movie. And then the box office lied to me about the refund. This is how they billed it " Make a splash with an unforgettable, family-friendly event where you become part of the story! Sing-Along Live! brings Disney's beloved classic The Little Mermaid to the big screen with on-screen lyrics, audience participation moments, and a wave of musical fun for all ages. This event will be hosted live by our costumed Mermaid Princess." When in reality they just played the movie. Shame on the production company, and shame on the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza for letting these people scam everyone.
