The haircuts somehow worse than the photos. I just got one and it's literally like unsaveable.

It pains me to write this review - this was my favorite, favorite barber shop for years and I was a loyal customer ... until they shaved off half my eyebrow. I wish I was kidding. After a great haircut I was getting ready to leave, and I said "it is perfect!!!" But i could get up, the barber went to make a quick adjustment and I stayed still thinking it was an out of place hair on my head INSTEAD HE WENT FOR MY EYEBROW AND HALF OF IT WAS GONE!!!! I was given no warning Nobody asked if I wanted an eyebrow trim. This never happened to me before in my whole life. Ironically about 15 mins before someone came in asking if they shaved/trimmed beards and the same barber said "no, we don't touch the face"... A couple months later and my eyebrow is only just filling out. I'm at a loss for how this happened and I'm really sad because I was hoping to support this business forever. I'm really disappointed. There's no way I will go back after this experience. read more

The main owner is great but the other guy with salt and pepper hair and beard needs additional training. I asked him to keep the length and he didn't. Shaping is somehow simultaneously round and boxy. He scraped the shit out of my neck and clipped my skin to the point I wiped away blood from behind my ear. Didn't shape the back well and took a chunk out (photo). Have loved these guys multiple visits but can't go back. I think it's been cheaper in the past but it's $45 for a men's trim now. read more

I have followed Nathan from his place on 45th to the current location. He really gets my hair and provides consistently quality cuts. In addition, I love the in-shop banter. I always enter saying, "Does anyone know where you can get a good haircut around here?" Nathan always responds with the same, "Step out the door and take four lefts." I think the guy in the Polo must've been new or something. Asked for a high vertical fade and to even out the sides on the top. The fade didn't even look amateur but a simple number buzz all the way through. And he left me with a patch of hair that was awkwardly sticking outwards??? What topped it off was he actually bragged how good he cut it. Really not worth $35. read more

Been my barber for the last 15 years. I'm not looking for a new one... I think that speaks for itself haha.

The haircut took maybe 30 min but I was in the chair over an hour because the barbers were arguing over something through out it all and would constantly stop for 5 min to argue. Complete lack of respect for my time. Then half way through the haircut, my barber tells me his clippers aren't working correctly but continues to use the same one even though there are other ones right next to him but I decide to not question it as I am not the barber and he is even though I did notice that it did hurt a bit. Later on I get home and my friend asks me why the back of my head is bleeding and it turns out I have cuts going around my head that the barber somehow forgot to tell me about. This is the first time I've ever written a review on anything. That's how bad my experience was at this place. I will not be returning here. They're nice to your face but do not respect you in any way. I've attached photos of the cuts as well. Side note: the barber I had was also complaining about how the set up he had was dangerous and that Nathan was too cheap to buy new clippers or a new set up where cords wouldn't be all over the ground and then proceeded to trip over them twice. I don't know if he did that to prove a point or if he legit tripped over them but I also tend to not like tripping hazards around people with clippers and scissors in their hand while they are by my head and neck cutting my hair read more

I recently moved neighborhoods and this meant I needed to find a new place to get my ears lowered. After exploring my neighborhood, I noticed Johnny's Barbershop -- and since it had the word "John" in the name, I figure it had to be good. I called to see if he took appointments. He said that he did, which was nice so I didn't show up only to realize that there were 3 people ahead of me in line waiting to get their haircut too. I arrived a bit early and found comfortable chairs to sit in to wait. There were several magazines to choose from to browse while waiting, including some surprising "adult" choices. I of course only looked at them for their articles. While I was getting my hair cut, I learned that Johnny has been cutting hair for over 40 years! He was very meticulous while cutting my hair and made sure that every hair was trimmed to perfection. The haircut took a little over a half hour. There wasn't any sign posted about how much he charged for a haircut and I was a bit taken aback when he told me that he was only going to charge me $30. I'm not sure how much he charges his regular customers, but that seemed a bit outrageous to me. I did get a pretty nice cut from a very nice man, but I think I'll be getting my next haircut somewhere else for half the price. read more

Worst haircut ever. I asked him to cut my hair to a length I showed in a picture. I also told him to make sure all of the sides of my hair were evenly cut to the same length. He practically gave the sides and back of my hair a number 3 and left the top of my hair the same length. Worst haircut of my life! I've been going to Johnny's for over 15 years. Let me tell you about the great things he does: 1. Takes same day appointments. Virtually unheard of these days. And will often stay late for his regulats to get them in. 2. Very meticulous about every cut 3. $30 haircut is cheap for what he gives you. Go to a downtown salon a pay $50. He's a one man operation in a U District storefront. Can you imagine the rent overhead? 4. When regulars come in who've been through trying times, ie a death in family, etc., he gives cut free. 5. If he can tell you're not in a talking mood, he stays quiet. I recently went to a party where he was honored by his regular customers. There were over a hundred. Many of those he has cut their hair for over thirty years...since they themselves were students at UW. I dread the day he retires, don't know who I will go to that offers that kind of personalized service. read more

I hesitate to share this review because Johnny was a very nice old man, but he is so deep in the grips of dementia and Alzheimer's that I don't believe he should still be operating a business. For the first time in my life I got out of a barbers chair halfway through a haircut and walked to the nearest hair salon and asked them to finish the job. I wouldn't be writing this review if I wasn't extremely serious that nobody should be trusting Johnny with their hair. I arrived at our scheduled time to find him asleep in the chair (and the only reading material available in the waiting area was Playboy Magazine...). Upon waking him, he asked me FOUR times if I had an appointment and when, and after repeatedly assuring him that I had an appointment for right now he let me sit. After showing him an image of what I want (long on top, short on sides), he proceeded to take a solid 30 minutes gently trimming the sides with his scissors. I assumed he was just being meticulous, although I was already extremely reticent, so I let him continue. As he proceeded to start chopping off the top I reminded him TWICE that I wanted it long on top, and both times he responded with "more off the top?" When I informed him that I wasn't happy at all and wanted to leave he said "everything is ok?" As though he had done a great job. He's either deaf, or senile, but Johnny didn't hear a word I said that day, and the result was that I spent $60 and 2 hours getting my hair cut because I had to go to two different shops. read more
