I have been coming to get cuts from Scott for decades; in fact, I may have been one of his first customers, back at the Magnolia shop, pre-Ballard days! This guy is consistent, skilled & efficient. Extremely gregarious, he's always got a great story or two ready to go. You might have to wait for the guy in front of you, but the conversations you'll take part in before taking your seat on the throne will be well worth your time. He keeps a clean, sanitary shop, so you never have to feel like it's an unpleasant wait here. To be transparent, I'm cursed with fantastic, thick hair; in my 40s, people would give me so much crap about how great it looks - especially my buddies who started shaving their heads in their 20s. It would be a shame not to do something good with a head of hair like this, but it is a pain for any stylist to manage well. Scott has it down to perfection; everytime I go in, I get rave reviews for weeks afterwards! I've been hired at least twice in the past, solely because of a hairstyle that Scott gave me, so I see it as a return on investment! YMMV... This place is old school, so expect your typical barbershop experience - witty banter, waiting in line (because he really IS that awesome, and people come from miles around to stand in line down the street), and the rare occasion where the barber is out for the day. Nothing that can't be overcome for the best hairstyle this side of Boston! If you don't like any of that, find a hair salon; I'm sure they'll have one of those newfangled websites and an app for your phone to get into a queue. Here, they just give out great service and clean cuts. And, I've never waited more than 45 minutes to get my seat in the chair, so any grief about long waits is just whining. Scott is an experienced barber, been going to him well before he moved to Greenlake. He has a great consistency even when my hair went from shorter to longer and back to shorter. Prices are reasonable, he only raises them every 3-4 years. The big update is that he now takes names in a list. Come in, put your name down, go run errands or whatever and you're in. read more

I wish I could give 2 1/2 Happy Barbers two and a half stars because this place is halfway from being perfect. The good: Solid haircuts at reasonable prices. It is an old school barbershop run by an old school barber named Scott. The bad: Despite the name, Scott is the one and only barber there. As I mentioned before, he is old school so that means no appointments, no web presence, and no credit cards. All of that would be fine for me except for the fact that he is the only one working there and he has a penchant for taking random days off. Since there is no web presence, there is no way to know if he will actually be there when you arrive. I have been burned more than a couple of times by his seemingly random days off. It is for this reason I will be finding a new barber. Bottom line: If you value an old fashioned barbershop experience with good haircuts and reasonable prices above all else then Scott is your guy. OLD SCHOOL. I have been coming to see Scott the barber for over 15 years. He recently moved to Greenlake from Ballard when his landlord sold the property. Dont' come in asking for a number one or two, he doesn't use clipper gaurds. This is a real barber shop complete with colorful banter but still kid friendly. This isn't a $10 bargain joint so bring your cash! No credit cards. Prices are around $16 to $21 with a father/son combo and a senior discount. No reservations, first come first served. Expect to wait a couple hours on the weekend. Call ahead to get a wait estimate. If you want to support local business you can't get closer! I started going here last year when it was located in Ballard. Being new to the area, it was nice to be able to find a great haircut at a reasonable price. I have been going here ever since. It's definitely the type of place where everyone knows one another and newcomers are always made to feel welcome. I was visiting from San Francisco and got one of my best cuts here. The price was cheap, the cut was on point, and the conversation was great. The owner (I believe his name was Scott) hooked it up with plenty of great sightseeing and eating recommendations and finished the job off with a soothing neck shave. I've been to a ton of barber shops in Seattle Ieg, Rudy's, University, Roosevelt, etc...). Scott is as good as it gets. I've gone in there with some disasters from other barber shops and he seems to have the ability to fix it and me look proper. Haircuts are $21 for adults, which is fair priced considering the disasters I've had for much much more. I recommend Scott, he's really chatty and will offer you a beer despite the time of the day, I have yet to take him up on that offer. read more

I should preface this by saying that I'm a woman, and yes, I'm aware that barbershops are usually only for men. However, I have very short hair and have gone to barbershops before with no problems. When I went in, the barber did not seem enthusiastic at all about cutting a woman's hair but was willing to do it. When I got in the chair, the banter was fine for a while but then, out of no where, he told me that "when I get a husband, it's important that I have sex with him regularly and don't use I'm too tired as an excuse." I was too shocked to do anything other than laugh nervously along, but it was completely inappropriate and downright creepy, especially as I am a college student and he was at least in his thirties. The haircut was fine, but I am telling everyone I know, women and men alike, not to go to a place where the barber makes sexist and inappropriate remarks. read more

Got the best haircut I've had in a long long time. I had to troll the reviews to try to figure out the barber's name. Scott had an incredibly steady hand and was entertaining. I had just got out of a nursing facility after breaking myself and was an amazing blast from the past of an old, classic barbershop I used to go to to as a youngster to buy baseball cards. Not joking, this was the best haircut in a really long time. No hair was left uncut and even though I got a "basic bitch" kinda haircut, which I would've been afraid to order from anyone, he made it EXACTLY how I wanted it. Watched him cut a curly haired dudes hair before me, so I'm guessing he can do any variety of hair (mine is straight as hell!). Much of what others have said rings true: Scott is a nice and interesting guy, the location is pretty nice, and this is more of a true barbershop feel than most places. This is also a better cut than one you'll find at Supercuts, Great Clips, or Sports Clips. However, I don't know what he's doing for y'alls hair, but I can't believe the rating is 5/5 after 17 previous reviews. Here's my experience: I've tried a lot of different places in Seattle, and after I got fed up with Rudy's, I came here. The first haircut Scott gave me was great--one of the best I've ever gotten. However, the four subsequent haircuts were terrible. Wear-a-hat-for-a-week awful. Bad enough that I regretted getting my hair cut at all. I asked for more to be left in the front and around the corners to make my hair look fuller, and each time he's taken more off the front and more off the corners--the exact opposite of what I wanted. Each time I've been more specific about what I want and nothing has changed. It's been bad enough that when I've gone to different barbers, they've commented on how poorly my last cut must have been, based on how it grew out. So, Scott, I gotta go. Thanks for that first cut, thanks for the good conversation and everything, but I'm going to try someplace else. As others have mentioned, the price is great, $17 + tip. Scott is also a super friendly, down to earth guy and will talk to you about Seattle, sports, anything. Great service too! My hair is weird to cut, as the sides will sometimes stick straight out 1-2 weeks after a haircut. With the recent price increase at Rudy's I decided that I couldn't keep going there anymore. The prices kept going up, but the haircut quality kept being variable. Plus, even if you need a 5 minute touch up you still get charged full price. So I decided to try a real barber shop. I just came from the new location of 2.5 Happy Barbers. I got a great haircut at a reasonable price. Plus I just showed Scott a picture and he nailed it without me having to explain everything to him. Scott is a wonderful barber! He cuts my dad's har, my boyfriend's hair and my son's hair. He started cutting my son's hair when he was just over 1 year old and definitely knows what he's doing! He works fast and does a good job to try to keep my boy happy! He has terrific conversation and knows the area well, he can give you great restaurant recommendations.
