Went here recently with the kids and really enjoyed it. The interpretive program is great. The building offers an up close and personal look at eagles, as well as an opportunity to watch them in flight over the Mississippi River. This is a great family activity. If you're in or near Wabasha, be sure to take time to stop in. They offer reduced rates for school groups. The interpretive program was informative. The National Eagle Center is amazing! You can watch the eagles fly overhead from the balcony, learn interesting facts & see them up close. They really did a great job designing this building. It's a great place to check out. I would love to go back & bring my grandkids. read more

National Eagle Center - Beautiful Eagle - Museums Near Me - Wabasha, Minnesota

This place is worth going to see. In one room downstairs they have several eagles that are injured beyond the point of sufficient recovery to be re-released in the wild, and you can go in the room with these birds and see them up close. They are tethered, I think, so they can't get too far off their perches - which is good, because their claws are very sharp looking! There are other exhibits, including some interactive ones that my 5 year old nephew enjoyed. He figured out that his grip is about 20psi, compared to an eagle's talon which is 400psi - he'll need to eat a lot of wheaties to get closer to that. They also have I think 2 different rooms with videos, and lots of photographs and even a few non-eagle artifacts. When we were there at the end of July 2012, they had on display an exhibit of arrowheads (about 150 in total?) put together by an eagle scout for his eagle scout project. It was pretty cool. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're interested in eagles, and like me, have never seen one up close. They are majestic birds, but you can tell they mean business - you don't want to get too close! We only had about 30 minutes before closing and it wasn't bad, I think you could probably do a thorough look-through of the whole place in about and hour and a half. read more

National Eagle Center - With the boss - Museums Near Me - Wabasha, Minnesota

This center is very small and we were not impressed. We've traveled to several different types of zoos and sanctuaries though, so we have a different take on this type of place than most visitors from this region of Minnesota/Wisconsin, probably. It's very small. They have a golden eagle as well as two females and a male bald eagle. It was neat seeing them up close and during meal time. The group talk we went to was relatively informative. The facility outside was beautiful, right on the riverfront. A lot of the area on the main floor seemed to be devoted to selling you more things rather than education. Overall we could have skipped this, and that says something because we love animals, wildlife, and nature. I'm sure this place is great for kids, but it was kinda meh for us. read more

This was a must-visit for my husband & I as we took a short trip to southern Minnesota on an autumn day. & what a great place! The Eagle Center is a great educational experience for people of all ages. Located on the river in downtown Wabasha, the center provides an indoor & outdoor eagle experience. The highlight of the center is an exhibit of 4 or 5 golden & bald rescue eagles who's injuries prevent them from being released back in to the wild. They sit on their perches or in their "bathtubs", just a few feet from viewers. It's a unique experience to be so close to such majestic birds. The center also provides visitors with educational seminar a few times a day. These seminars allow guests to learn about eagles & their habitats, ask questions, & @ the end of the seminar, an eagle is brought in to the classroom & hand fed. Very cool. On the second floor of the center, there are indoor & outdoor viewing stations for guests to view eagles in the wild. Bring your binoculars! :) There are educational exhibits all over the center that provide information about the eagle's diets, migration, mating, & lifestyle. There is also a small gift shop @ the center. Check it out if you are in the area... it is absolutely worth the $8 admission. read more

This place is definitely worth a visit. It's not very big, so you can see everything and the presentation in a couple of hours. The presentations were entertaining and informative. It was great to be able to see eagles up close and you can even get your picture taken standing next to one. Then you can walk out on their observation deck and see some wild eagles fly by. A few of the eagles are kept in an area with perches so you can see them up close. All of the Eagles here have been injured and cannot be returned to the wild. An interesting tip is if the eagles in the center start to make noise they've seen one outside and it's a good time to head up to the observation deck. read more

I love going to the national eagle center as much as my son, is a small place but really fun. The best time to go is before 11am because they have a little presentation where they talk about eagles and they feed the eagles in front of you. You can also take picture with the eagle and ask as many question as you have. The stuff is very friendly. They also have some activities for the kids during summer. read more

This was a fun place to visit for our family. The facility itself was clean, well set up and full of good activities for kids (and adults) to explore and learn about eagles and other wildlife of the northern midwest. The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable on a very busy day and there was a lot of other fun stuff to check out in the area. The live eagles were incredible and I was surprised how closely we could check them out. Overall, it was a great place! We'll be excited to go back again! read more

Very nice place to visit. I loved being able to see the live Eagles. It is off the beaten path and you have to drive through a lot of small towns and rural areas, but the drive is absolutely breaktaking to get there. The admission price is reasonable. read more

One of my favorite places in the world!! I go out of my way to visit whenever possible. Recently one of the permanently disabled eagles, rescued by the center, was on display with a handler. She started to flap her wings and strain to leave, looking up!! Through the glass room we could see a group of eagles flying over. Sad, but inspiring. This was a loved, and wonderful eagle. Anyone interested in birds, eagles, and care should find there way there!!!! read more

If you are going back to the National Eagle Center you will be very disappointed in the gift shop. My friends and I couldn't wait to get Native American jewelry, crafts and dreamcatchers. Three years ago the gift shop was loaded with goodies and we were excited to return. My first trip we discovered a ton of cool handmade items from tribes across the United States. Now there are just a few dreamcatchers and no Indian silver or turquoise jewelry. The price of admission wasn't as concerning as the authenticity of the experience. We couldn't believe that The "NATIONAL" Eagle Center was full of Native Canadian Tribal dreamcatchers and beadwork. Not NATIVE AMERICAN! PLENTY OF THINGS MADE IN CHINA. How can that happen? Students, Families, out of town, out of state and out of country visitors must go through the center and land in the gift shop fully confused why our museum/center is full of imported goods when the United States is full of tremendous art and culture from our Native American people. Our friends and neighbors in many cases are Native American or of native descent. What is this teaching them. Very disappointing! read more

Location: 3/5 (If you are coming from the cities its pretty much an all day destination) We've been to the National Eagle Center many times with kids classes. I encourage you to go, but I hope the people running it improve the experience. Doing so would greatly improve the longevity and return appeal. read more

What an experience! This is great for kids - the lecture was definitely geared towards kids and the lecturer was overly loud. But I didn't mind that. The amazing experience of being 3 feet away from golden and bald eagles, watching them eat and drink and watch you - more than worth it. I learned some amazing factoids (birds in the raptor family can turn their necks the way they do because they can't move their eyes in the sockets like we can - because their eyes are so huge!). I sat on the floor in the viewing area for ages, just watching the rehabilitated eagles and listening to the expert answering questions and offering up amazing information. If you feel bad that they are leashed and can't fly -- don't. These are birds who can't fly (broken wings that didn't heal, missing eyes). They care for them beautifully here and they are amazing ambassadors. Once I learned that, I felt a lot better about them being on their perches watching the wild eagles outside the windows. If you've never had a chance to observe eagles up close - amazing opportunity to do it here. read more

The programming and Eagles were great. I purchased a sweatshirt that was rung up without the membership discount. The refund came in with the 10% discount and never posted to my account. Then I purchased it again for the correct amount. In the end paid over 80 dollars for a sweatshirt and no one will return my phone calls/emails regarding the lack of refund that never credited to my credit card. Disappointed as the rest of the experience was positive but I won't visit here again. Anyone who did, I'd stay clear if the gift shop!! read more

I stumbled upon the National Eagle Center when I went to stay at a B&B in Wabasha for a few nights. I thought it was outstanding. The naturalist was beyond knowledgeable and entertaining. The room was packed with children and adults and the naturalist was able to engage everyone. I thought $8.00 was fine when I think that I am helping to support this educational center. We need to learn why these beautiful creatures get injured and what we can do to prevent injuries. read more

An educational experience for everyone! This beautiful little place is located on the south side of Lake Pepin where the water is always open, and the eagles are always circling. Inside, you can meet four injured owls and get very close to see and hear them. Staff is everwhere, always willing to help and answer questions. Don't miss the show! They have an eagle demonstration a few times a day. It is very fun for all ages. Lots of telescopes around the facility where you can search for nests, eagles, and other creatures along the river. This is an okay place. The employees are nice unless you live in town, apparently it is odd to see what your own town has to offer! I would actually recommend to go to lake city and drive along the water and eagle watch with a pair of binoculars for free! They had three eagles the last time I was there and although they are well kept and you do learn a lot about the animals, you wouldn't want to keep paying $10 to get in. Once you have went there really is no need to go again. It is a nice facility all in all, it is clean and informative. read more
