Among experiences not to be missed in Dublin are an opportunity to witness Irish folklore come to life. We purchased nighttime tickets to "Darkland," described as "twisted tales of the darker side of Ireland" & it lived up to its promise. Our consummate storyteller Donal, blessed with the gift to gab, entertained, shocked, & at times made listeners squirm as he regaled us with stories passed down through generations. The audience moved through several rooms, mostly dim & moody, to match the dark subjects at hand -- fairies, murder, torture, vengeance, & of course, things that go bump in the night. Perfect for those fascinated by the macabre (they have daytime tours that are lighter in subject matter, if you aren't a psycho like me.) €20 per person for an hour-long storytelling session you won't soon forget. OMG yelpers . This was a find and a half. When m daughter suggested we visit a Leprechaun museum, I almost died a Dublin death. Boy was I wrong.. In my 40 years of traveling the world and visiting museums I was amazed. This is without doubt the best museum I have ever visited. Museum is not the word but we were treated to a 50 minute thrill ride of Irish story telling. Out host Donhal (hope I was close on spelling) had us spellbound. His depth of knowledge and captivating tone was incredible. I consider myself a good speaker but this was on another whole level. If you are anywhere near Dublin this is a must see.. They also do a "spiced up" evening show three days a week and I know we are booking for our return in May.... As an aside my daughter mentioned she is studying folklore and they took the time to walk her through their books so she would be able to read up before class starts. Simply AMAZING read more

I can't explain why but I had too much fun at this museum. I am an adult. My friend and I bought tickets at the last minute. It's a nice indoor activity. You get to hear a lot of tales of Irish legends. All in all, great activity for a really hot day or inclement weather. Great for kids, but if you're like me, great for adults. I wish I could put up photos but they are all too embarrassing. If only Knukie was there. read more

I didn't know what to expect from the Leprechaun Museum. I booked the night tour, which is basically a guide narrating terrifying tales from Irish folklore. Not suitable for children. Those with little ones should consider the day tour. It is not really a museum. There's a tiny section at the beginning displaying leprechaun related items such as a box of Lucky Charms and that weird Jennifer Aniston movie. Our guide for the night was the manager. Oh boy! He was an amazing storyteller. You move from one room to another and in each room you hear a different story. The manager chose the stories based on the mood of the audience. Every story he told was engaging. I was paying attention to every little detail he said. The "tour" only last an hour. I was left wanting to hear more stories. I don't think this museum is everybody's cup of tea. But it's definitely interesting and unique. I think your experience will depend a lot on who is the storyteller. 5 stars. read more

It was kind of expensive for what it was, but it was still awesome! Our tour guide, Paddie (sp?) was so deadpan most of the time - I loved him. My favorite line was "please don't leave your belongings here, as I will get sentimentally attached to them". He was the best! You basically go through 5-6 rooms and hear stories about the origins of leprechauns and fairies. There's some fun photo moments, except the room with the giant furniture had HORRIBLE lighting. I am not sure why they do that. Also, it was kinda hard for me to get on the furniture. read more

Stumbled upon this place after we departed the tram (the Luas) & decided to check it out. We ask the person at the ticket window about it & she said it was about Irish folklore & the next tour was in 40 minutes. Sounded interesting, love folklore so we purchased tickets (15 Euros per adult) and went a few doors down for coffee. Upon your arrival your standing in a small room with a few pictures on the wall, a picture of a leprechaun & the "tour guide" talks about the general publics perception of leprechauns, how they dress based on these perceptions and then tells you how they really look and dress. She then tells you to walk through this "tunnel" & tries to make you think that you are shrinking while she says she'll meet you in the room. You enter a room with giant furniture to make you think you're in the giants house & you shrunk. You're left there for quite a while. There are other silly little things that go on however it comes down to this is more for ages 6 and under in my opinion. For an adult it was not interesting, I almost feel asleep in some of the rooms while our "guide" told her stories, it really was a waste of time and money. If you want to kill time with youngsters then do it for fun but in all honesty I wouldn't waste the time and money especially if you're only going in as an adult. You'd be better off Googling or reading books on Irish folklore. read more

DISCLOSURE: My wife and I are complete dorks and this looked to be an extremely dorky thing to do. And yes, there is probably something mentally wrong with a voluntarily childless married couple in their 30s wanting to do something like this. DISCLOSURE 2: While I personally do not do drugs, except alcohol, I would imagine this be would so much more awesome if one got high on marijuana first. Its not really a "museum", but more of a 45min story telling experience of Irish folklore involving Leprechans and Fairies. The storyteller walks you through different themed rooms. Particularly awesome was the room with the giant sized furniture to make you feel the size of a leprechaun. We both just had some Guinness pints and thought the whole thing was pretty groovy. If you have ill-behaved children(don't deny it), they'll get restless, whine, cry, and ruin the story telling for everyone else in the group. Mid way through the tour, one bratty 4-5yo girl ruined the experience the entire group; she would not sit and shut up. So if you have bad kids, the ones that make lots of noise during movies/shows/weddings/funerals/etc., don't take them here. At 12 euro Adults, 8 euro Kids, it seems a wee bit pricey, but it is a weird, nerdy, dorky, and entertaining experience. read more

This was totally worth a visit. We had a few hours to kill before check-in so we did some shopping and stumbled upon this gem. The guided tour lasts just under an hour and is an immersive experience. Very well done atmosphere simulating enchanted forests and locations of myth and lore. Our tour guide, Cici was an amazing story teller and really did a great job of entertaining us with local legends about leprechauns, fairies, and mermaids. Admission is €16 and there is a €2 discount for students and they are very lax about it (didn't need to show my ID). My advice if you have an AM arrival to Dublin: leave your bags at the hotel if on upper O'Connell, check out some thrift shops, and round out your early afternoon with a stop at the National Leprechaun Museum. read more

3.5 stars. This is NOT a museum as the name suggests, for that reason alone I deduct a star. This is more of a walking interactive short story telling type of "play" maybe? It's cool, but it's definitely not what you'd imagine when you think of a museum. This is great for children or people into Comic-Con type things. The story teller was great at what he did, I'll give him credit. The rooms were cool too, to add to the story telling. Maybe if I was drunk or stoned this would have been more fun. Had an absolutely mortifying experience and could not recommend this place to anyone travelling with children. I was with my sister and her 19-month-old son. They were perfectly happy to let us in but then, after the first room, we were taken aside and given an ultimatum: leave the tour now and get a complete refund, or if your child keeps being noisy after this point we will throw you out with no refund. You might think my nephew had been having a screaming fit or something, but he'd just been cooing and burbling to himself, and my sister moved to the back so he wasn't disturbing any other visitors. It was precisely the noise level you would expect from a happy one-year-old excited by pictures of fairies. My sister has never experienced anything like this from any visitor attraction before with any of her other children, and found it very upsetting to be treated as if she or her son had done something wrong. If your tour guides are genuinely unable to cope with young children who are not completely silent, you should have a blanket policy not to allow them in and avoid this sort of really uncomfortable situation. But if you run a fairy-themed museum in the centre of a major tourist destination, you should probably be able to cope with the presence and existence of children. read more

We are in Dublin for a few days and decided to go to the National Leprechaun Museum. It's really a fun lesson on Irish mythology, given in a series of rooms that are a great backdrop to the stories. You are lead through the tour and told about not only Leprechauns, but about other mythological creatures. It was mildly corny, but in the best way possible! The boss was very knowledgeable and funny! We were told that our actual guide was still pretty new, but she did a really good job telling us about the history and stories. The night time adult tour with Nathan is a MUST when in the city. I can see how during the day people might feel this museum is a bit corny, but it was so worth it to come on this adults only dark side of Leprechaun history tour. It was raunchy, funny, and totally tongue in cheek and Nathan made it a blast. His stories were hilarious and really taught us a lot about folklore, not to mention they made the inside of this museum after dark downright creepy and very interactive. I would definitely suggest this to anyone, I feel like it would be even more fun drunk! read more

When my mom heard this place existed, she decided we were going -- period. Would I have gone on my own? Unlikely. It was a cute experience -- there were plenty of adults on the tour -- but the museum itself is rather dated at this point. They should consider a renovation. I don't even want to think of how many folks have climbed atop those giant chairs. Yikes. The storytelling was the best part of this museum rather than the sights. Our guide was very dramatic as he shared Irish folklore. Keep in mind: Most of it was SUPER depressing! Eek! Lots of death, so keep that in mind if you're bringing kids along. At the end of the tour (you go through several rooms), they have a gift shop where you can take a selfie with Seamus. It's pretty cute. Also keep in mind that some of the rooms are dark, which could pose a safety hazard if you struggle to meander pathways in low light. Would I recommend? Eh, only if you're in the area and have visited all other major museums already. Also try to get a discounted rate if possible! read more

We stopped by the Leprechaun Musem on a whim and of all of the things we did in Dublin (touristy and non-touristy). this was truly a highlight of our week. It was fun, whimsical, interesting, informative, interactive and immersive. The storyteller we had was amazing and she really made the experience great! We both loved it - great fun. I heard good things about the Leprechaun Museum so I decided to visit one day during my stay in Dublin. With my student ID, I paid fourteen euros. Coming from the Washington D.C metro area, I'm not a huge fan of paying for museum entry - so I hoped the experience would be good. They don't let you in until around five minutes before your tour begins. I headed back to the building around 1:50 and was let into the first room. It was a collection of leprechaun artifacts - like a little brown suit, a vintage looking box of Lucky Charms, several manuscripts about leprechaun sightings, etc. The entire tour lasted around forty-five minutes to one hour. We were led around the building by a bubbly tour guide who told us different folklore stories. Since it was during the day, the stories were more lighthearted. I hear that if you participate in the night tour, the stories will be darker. At the end of the tour, they led us through the gift shop (of course) where we were able to take photos with a giant fake leprechaun. Not as fun as taking pics with the oversized furniture at the beginning! Overall, I really enjoyed my experience. I felt like it was fourteen euros well spent. read more

There's so much sadness going on in the world and the only thing that brought me true happiness was this museum. I love the mystical tales of the leprechauns , they take me to a fantasy land where life is easier and filled with magic. If you have kids, I would recommend taking them here. Unfortunately, my family and I didn't realize that this place was more tailored towards children when we went which is the only reason i gave it 3 stars. I can see how it would be fun for a 5 year old but for me it was just alright. Parts of it were fun, but the best part was the giant furniture that made us look like leprechauns!! NIGHT TOUR: It was €18 a person and 100% not worth it. My mom and I were looking forward to hearing some leprechaun folktale with a little Halloween twist to it. My mom and I, along with the whole group that did the tour were beyond disappointed. The stories had nothing to it and made it very difficult to even follow. The layout was dark and kept waiting for something scary to pop out (as it says for 18+) but there was not one scary scene to this tour. please do not waste your money on this. Very disappointed. This place is across from the Jervis shopping mall. You pay and then are assigned a time to come back. We went as a family that included a 9 year old. I think it is probably more fun for kids though I did see some adults having fun with the oversized furniture. You are led through the museum by a guide who will tell you stories and information about leprechauns. There is a room with oversized chairs and a table that makes you look small. It was kinda fun. There is a room later with the proverbial pot of gold and you sit around in a circle and listen to a story. You end in a patio where you can put your face through a hole and have pictures taken that make it appear you are a leprechaun. They have a nice little gift shop with books and souvenirs. read more
