This is a fairly comprehensive guide tour. I was initially unsure as to why this needed to be guided, but after hearing all the stories behind the artifacts I understand now. Our tour guide Kevin did a good job keeping this informative but fun and moving along. It definitely didn't feel like an hour. Gord and I checked out the Irish Rock 'n Roll Museum Experience on Thursday. What a fabulous tour! It was more than 100 minutes and Alan, our guide, was so entertaining and knowledgeable! I figured it would cover U2, Sinéad O'Connor, etc. but there were so many others I had forgotten about or didn't realize were Irish ... and Alan had stories about them all! The museum is a working practice studio and recording studio. We saw the U2 room, the Rory Gallagher corner, the Phil Lynott (of Thin Lizzy) room and so much more. We had a great time here, Matthew led our tour, very informative and lots of insight as an musician, it was great seeing the roots of Irish rock not just the huge international artists. Only thing to add would be to include some of the newer groups (2 door cinema club, my bloody valentine, etc). For a island with 7m people the amount of great music Ireland produces is crazy and the museum does a great job of providing details on the history and the human side of the music. read more

Front door is on an alley named Curve Street. Doesn't look like much, but the tour was wonderful. Our guide was Liam. He was great. Soft spoken he spoke very intimately about the Irish rockers whom we are familiar with. Rooms were devoted to U2 and Thin Lizzy. Displays included Rory Gallagher and Van Morrison and others. What a fantastic experience! This is something that I really wanted to do and I dragged my family along. We arrived around 11:45 AM and thankfully they were able to squeeze us in on the 1215 tour. We walked around the block and grabbed a snack before returning. Our tour guide Bryan was absolutely spectacular and if you can get him as your tour guide, you definitely should. I am a diehard obsessive U2 fan and so obviously my favorite room of the tour was the U2 room which is filled with U2 memorabilia, and where they rehearsed and wrote some of their early songs. Bryan said all of the memorabilia was donated by Bono. When Bryan found out, I was a big u2 fan he gave me some tips for some other things to see around the city. There's also a venue, recording space, and you can learn all about other Irish rock and rollers like Rory Gallagher, Van Morrison, and Thin Lizzy. If you are a Thin Lizzy fan, they have a room just for you as well. They also highlighted other performers, who came to Dublin including Michael Jackson and REM. The tour was about an hour and 15 minutes. My husband really enjoyed it as well and my six-year-old didn't complain at all, so I'll call that a win. I loved it and it was a definite highlight for me in Dublin. read more

After having my luggage stolen the night before, I wasn't really in the mood to go back into Dublin on my final day in Ireland. I'm so glad I did, though, as I ended up taking Scott's tour of the Irish Rock 'N' Roll Museum. Growing up, I loved The Cranberries and U2, so it cool to see a place where they had recorded. I also listened to Enya as a child and never knew she was Irish, so it was neat to see her albums up on the wall. There was a whole room dedicated to Thin Lizzy front manPhil Lynott, a band that I only knew by name and not much else. The artifacts that are housed in the museum were really cool, and learning about the history of the studio was great. It made me want to pursue more knowledge of the Irish music scene. Scott was a fantastic tour guide. I would go back for his tour anytime. read more

If we could give this more than 5 stars, we would. This was the very first thing we did upon arriving to Dublin and what a great first activity. Scott our tour guide was so awesome. He knew so much about the different artists and had a great sense of humor. He actively involved all of the tour participants and encouraged us to interact with the different parts of the tour. Plus he is a helluva drummer!!! This was my husband's favorite part of our trip (he will not stop talking about it). So if you or your travel buddy are big music fans, this is a must do! read more

I was not expecting much from my visit and did not realize a guided tour was included until I bought my ticket. I had to leave before the end to catch a flight, but even so, the part of the tour led by Alan that I did experience was well worth the price of admission. I am a bit of a music snob and I have to say... Worth every penny. Allan was out your guide and he was extremely well versed in music history in general (not just that of Ireland's rich history). I found him to be friendly, genuine, and funny, without feeling like he put on a show. In fact, his personal and heartfelt anecdotes and the way he sees music and the world was quite touching, and I got a bit teary eyed. Perhaps my sights were set a bit low, as I thought this would be a cheesy tourist trap experience with little value. I walked away excited to explore more of Ireland's best musicians, and feeling a little richer for the experience. read more

This was a highlight of my trip to Dublin. I was there for two days to spend time with my daughter, who is attending college there. She found this absolute gem for Saturday Morning. Point #1 is that our guide Liam was knowledgeable, interesting, and genuine. #2 is that this is exactly the right time duration (one hour and twenty minutes). #3 is that I learned a ton. This cool little museum is a hidden gem. There were only 3 other people on our tour (total of 5) and I loved seeing all the memorabilia. As Temple Lane Studios, it's been a recording and rehearsal studio for hundreds of bands since 1984 including Irish bands, but also artists like Michael Jackson, Def Leppard, Rihanna, and The Rolling Stones. The Irish Rock 'N' Roll Museum is marketed as being dedicated to the history of rock and roll in Ireland. In actuality, most of the tour focused on U2 and Thin Lizzy, though a few other bands were briefly touched upon. We got into the basic tour for free, thanks to our Dublin Pass. There were maybe 15 people in our tour group, with a little less than half being Irish. The basic tour lasted just over an hour and included: * A room with U2 memorabilia * A short video about Irish rock and roll bands * A room with various bands' riders (set of a requests in advance of a performance - some of them quite over the top) framed on the wall * A room where a few of us got to rock out and play a couple songs * A tour of the recording studio where there is a huge analog mixing console and Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy memorabilia The tour guide seemed pretty knowledgeable, but alas the tour was over too quickly, and I feel like we left with mostly just a U2 and Thin Lizzy experience. The VIP tour would've offered more things to see and do. But I got to play the drums during the jam session, which was cool. Overall, this was a fun way to spend an hour, but I don't think I'd do it if not for the Dublin Pass. read more

I had Alan as my tour guide in early April with a small group of only three people. The tour was intimate, interactive, and informative. Alan was very knowledgeable and personable making for a great experience on the tour. Great for music lovers, even as someone who works in music I learned a lot (and got a kick out of playing the drums in one of their rehearsal rooms). Definitely recommend this if you have the time - I liked it so much I told my sister she had to adjust her schedule to take a tour with Alan. read more

It was a nice way to see different aspects of Irish rock and roll throughout the year and a way to see memorabilia and recording studios. The tour guide was very nice and knowledgable. However, it was pretty expensive considering it wasn't THAT interesting. I feel like this place is only really entertaining is for big rock and roll fan, and alas I was not. If you're not a Thin Lizzy fan, I'd probably skip this tour. On the other hand, because it didn't over glorify U2 and Bono, I didn't give this place one star. However, the venue is split into two small buildings. The first half of the tour has a hall of some famous Irish singers and their records as well as some regalia from visiting singers (like Michael Jackson). From there, I was led into a small theatre to see a montage of some of the greater (and maybe semi-great) Irish performers. Next I was ushered into one of their jam rooms where one can dress up with wigs and coats. There's also a drum set, some guitars, and a few other instruments to have a jam session with your fellow tour folks. Following this I was shown a dressing room and a stage where one is allowed to pose for pics and pretend to put on a concert. Afterwards, I was led to their recording studio space and that is where the Thin Lizzy fan club began. They have an upstairs room devoted to some of the Phil Lynott's "prized" memorabilia as well as his records. For someone like me who had no idea who he was or what he sang, after 2 out of a 20 minute rant about his greatness all the information sounded like "blah, blah, blah." I have to give our guide credit, however, for staying enthusiastic and trying to share his awe for this band and its singer. read more

I love rock and roll, so it's probably not a shock to anybody that when I learned of the existence of this place I immediately qualified it as a "must". Wife being the supportive person that she is, agreed to join me on the experience. We sauntered by at about noon one Tuesday, but were told the next tour was sold out, and to come back at half past two. So, we killed the time by having lunch at a nearby pub, then came back and waited for the tour to start. Our host came out - an energetic young bloke who appeared to be well-suited for his role. We were part of a group of about 20 people, many of which appeared to be tourists such as us. I was greatly excited, especially when he took us down a staircase - wow, this place must really be awesome - it has secrets downstairs! And it started promising, with a short video detailing some of Ireland's more famous acts (in addition to the obvious such as U2, Thin Lizzy and Sinead O'Connor, there's the Corrs, Mary Coughlan, Westlife, and of course the Pogues). We got to take the stage to act out our rock-n-roll fantasies, and later toured a room which appeared to be a Thin Lizzy tribute area (I'd no idea they/Phil Lynott were so prevalent), complete with keyboards and the like. All of which was ok, but somehow I found the experience on the whole to be somewhat underwhelming - perhaps it was just a bit lacking in material, it's hard to say. It is neat that the building is still active as a recording studio. read more

Most underwhelming museum experience i ever had and worst 25euros (two tickets) spent in Dublin. It feels like a tour through some random music studio or concert venue. It has nothing to do with irish rock except couple of memorabilia that some fans donated like tickets for concerts of U2. I went because rory gallagher was advertised on the website and only thing there is to see is one vinyl record of him. Irish rock has much more to offer than couple of vinyls, jacket of a U2 drummer and room dedicated to thin lizzy. I felt like someone stole 25e from me afterwards. read more
