UPDATE: Leslie C. of this company claims that I should have written this review 6 months ago. Interesting, as I didn't move out until end of April 2018, which was about 3 months ago. Nothing I have said has been exaggerated. Just look at other reviews, such as the "not recommended" Yelp reviews (especially these!), Google, etc. Many of these reviews say the same exact things I've been saying. There is an obvious pattern here. It's unfortunate that people who post with no previous reviews are automatically categorized as "not recommended," even though they're still legitimate - just that Yelp's algorithm categorized them that way. I have nothing to gain from doing so. Absolutely nothing. My review is simply serving as a warning to landlords and tenants alike. Time and time again, Leslie claims that all the landlords and tenants are in the wrong. I highly doubt that dozens of people who complain about this company are wrong. Please be informed before renting or working with this company - feel free to shoot me a message. Not to mention, there are plenty of people who do not post their negative experiences online, so there are likely other tenants and landlords that have had issues with this company. We actually did call them, text them, and e-mail them for issues last summer regarding a pest problem that I deemed an emergency. By the time it was actually dealt with, the rodent had escaped. We also didn't receive things that were promised (including regular HVAC check-ups and pest control!), yet they're claiming that we should have to contact the contracted company. Now they're claiming we're dirty people, and that's why we had a pest problem. No, there was a pest problem because the house is several decades old and has not been treated for pests and rodents. That is the responsibility of the landlord, not the tenants. We actually left the house CLEANER than when it was rented to us. I spent HOURS cleaning the house when we moved in because it was in terrible shape. Photos that document AFTER move-out condition do NOT document what was ALREADY THERE BEFORE MOVE-IN. This logic makes absolutely no sense. It is incredible how they conduct business, and Leslie's response is indicative of someone with no customer service, as stated in my original review. She will try to discredit you in all realms - including making grandiose comments, when it is their incompetency that caused a negative review to begin with. This behavior is extremely unprofessional and childish. ORIGINAL: I don't write reviews outside of restaurants very often, but I want to warn people about this poor excuse of a management company, especially as a tenant. If you find yourself in a rental by this company, be ready to deal with terrible customer service. Potential landlords, please find another company - literally any of them would be better than this one. Everything with this company is the "tenant's responsibility," despite things that were promised in the lease. What do I mean by this? If I wanted to maintenance my own home, I would have bought a house. We definitely paid enough in rent to do so. I have a full-time job and many other personal commitments/responsibilities, and their sole job is to manage properties, yet somehow, they don't? We specifically had a problem with the garbage disposal in the sink not working. We contacted them several times to get this rectified, and they claimed that they would have someone call us. Days and then weeks went by - nothing. We contacted more than once, but nothing was done. They have a serious problem with follow-through. "Well you didn't notify us." How many times do I have to notify you before an issue gets rectified? There's obviously a problem with your contractors. Fix it. I don't have time to babysit your contractors. We rent because it's convenient for our lifestyle and do not want to have a permanent dwelling at this time. They do not have any direct way to reach them, except by e-mail or text. So if you have an emergency, you have to wait until they decide they want to respond, which can be anywhere from hours to days. I don't know why they don't have someone answering phones during business hours, isn't that what they're paid to do? If you can't have at least one person to solely answer phones, then you should probably hire more people. They have to ask the landlord for permission on EVERYTHING. What's the point of being a management company if you can't manage the properties? It really slows everything down when you have to wait to hear back from the landlord to fix an issue. This company did not send a receipt or anything for why our full deposit was not returned. We were so tired of dealing with them, that we just said "screw it," and let it be. read more

Hiring Rent KC Now is a COMPLETE WASTE OF YOUR MONEY!! We hired Leslie to manage the rental of our single family home. Since signing the contract it is nearly impossible to get more than a text message from her. She found renters rather quickly. When they moved in she did not attend the walk-thru and we received requests that things were dirty or broken that were absolutely not true. (As evidenced by when I try to confirm scheduling those work items, Leslie responds that they're no longer needed.) She forwards us emails from the renters regarding maintenance requests with little to no detail and cannot offer any further explanation. Then proceeds to take 30 - 60 days to send out someone to fix the items. I have now been waiting for 3 months to get receipts for things we have paid for and invoices to find out what we paid for. Keep your money and just call a handyman to do the maintenance yourself. At least that way it will get done. At this point it would be easier for me to talk to the renter directly than go thru Rent KC Now, they are useless. Let me add that in recent events it's gone from bad to worse, she is unprofessional: not returning phone calls, wanting to hold conversations via text because she's driving, speaking louder to talk over me rather than waiting until I've finished a sentence/question, not scheduling repairs with vendors and telling them "we have bigger problems now". She cannot follow chain of events in repairs and I have remind her where to find contact info for vendors and continue to request receipts for work completed. To quote a previous reviewer: I'm amazed she gets anything done. Use caution in relying on the BBB rating. When we filed a complaint, the response we received from BBB: "We can not handle the complaint because you have entered a mutually beneficial financial agreement with a business partner." Just look at all the other reviews of her business, 1 star on every single review post. (Except for the review she posted about herself to inaccurately inflate their rating.) I have also spoke with my tenants and they THANKED us for canceling our contract with Leslie because: "every time we called them with anything the gal was always VERY rude to us and took FOREVER to respond to any questions we had!" I WOULD NOT RENT A PROPERTY FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN!!!! I rented a house from this company for one year. In that time there were over 120 email correspondences back and forth over mostly maintenance issues. You will have no contact with the home owner and only email correspondence with NPMG. Maintenance issues have to be approved by the home owner which usually takes days at best. The times I did call them no one ever answered, straight to voice mail which is converted to an email. I requested them to call me one two occasions. When they did finally call me back there attitude was very unprofessional. If you do decide to use this company watch out for all the hidden fees. Worst customer service ever! Currently have an agreement with them, that I am counting down the days until it ends! (In comparison, I work with 2 management companies in several states for properties that I own.) Example 1: communication in regards to a broken dishwasher that took 3 months to repair, and are still fighting the repair charges-- "Yes, we show the April payment, was there a question on that? We have removed the late fee. Brandon ran the dishwasher through two cycles and it was fine. The owner will not pay for that trip. He has/will pay for everything else. Brandon drove out, used gas, his time and deserves to be paid. I am sorry, but the owner will pay for everything else but not this. Our hands are tied we have to pay the bill and charge you. The only thing the owner might do is negotiate with you if you are willing to move out early. Have you decided if that is an option or what you would want to do so? Notified them that we could not make it home on a 2hour notice to kennel our dogs, and the response was downright rude. 4:12pm May 4th: "The inspection will be at 4:30 tomorrow. NPMG is responsive and willing to work with you when issues come up. Our only issues were with the owner and her lack of follow through.

Avoid like the plague!!! I used this company's services for almost 5 years before I terminated their contract early due to unprofessional service, multiple accounting errors in their favor, lack of updates when asked, bad repair services, bad tenants...I could go on and on. Even the tenants complained about their rude service. When the first tenants moved in and I questioned Leslie about about being overcharged for commission she led me to believe the lease was longer than a year. That lease was not posted on their site. I was later surprised when NPM emailed me they had new renters(which I thought was a month early). The first tenant later confirmed it was not a 13 month lease. The second tenants were not good and couldn't stay current on rent. It didn't help that NPM charged them $160 in monthly late fees(which they kept) causing them to get further behind on rent. When the air conditioner quit working and I had NPM send someone to replace it I got a call from the repairman they sent that it still didn't work after he installed the new AC and that I would need to hire an HVAC guy since he couldn't figure it out. The person NPM sent to replace the central air conditioner wasn't HVAC certified???!!! What a nightmare!! I have had so many bad experiences with this company. At the end I even got a call from NPM about a needed repair from a much younger sounding woman claiming to be Leslie. I had spoken to Leslie multiple times and knew what she sounded like. She sounded nothing like her. I could not trust this company and as a result terminated their contract. Of course, even then they couldn't get their accounting correct and wanted to over charge me an amount that was once again incorrect in their favor. Do yourself a huge favor and avoid National Property Management Group. Trust me. Yep ,it is all true, Leslie never contacted us about anything. She never spoke to the tenants. We now have a great property manager. Within a few days, the one tenant who was late on their rent was evicted. And another tenant was told to get their place cleaned up or they will be out so the yard is looking better already. She has had the carpets cleaned, the place painted and new contracts signed. She did more in one month than Leslie did in three. When you are out of town owners as we are you must have a property manager that truly takes an interest in the property. With several negative comments about this particular manager, I don't think that we are all making this information up. The reviews are in on this one. read more

DONT DO BUISNESS WITH THESE PEOPLE !!! We rented through National Property Management group for a year. They allow their properties to fly under the radar with absolutely no accountability for the owners to abide by. For instance, we had a drier go out in our property a week after we moved in. We went through the proper steps of contacting NPMG, the forwarding of our messages to the owner, and setting up an appointment for a fix. The owner would no show continuously until we would just give up and pay for fixes ourselves.. NO REPRECUSSIONS from NPMG to the property owners. All they had was a piss poor "sorry, your under contract" Our move in inspection list was atrocious. NPMG just stopped in to get it from us and didn't review it at all on site.. as if they just were used to this place being a shithole and unsafe. They even tried to make us pay for things that were on the laundry list of issues that we moved in with upon moving out! They charged us for the yard not being mowed ( which it was) and the house not being cleaned (we had it professionally cleaned). When we addressed how the slum owner of the property that we were in is behind on property taxes by nearly 8 grand while moving out..they shrugged us off and docked our deposit. They prefer to interact by email. This is a typical (and automated) reply: "Hello, Thanks for your email! Our response time will be delayed due to processing and paying rent. Thanks for your patience." This was in response to a Dec 8 email inquiry. An appropriate response to your questions would typically occur 2 to 3 days after the email is sent. Maybe. When they inspected the property at the end of my tenant's lease, they found no problems and returned the full deposit amount to her. When the property was subsequently inspected for sale 5 months later, it was found that the tenant had broken the thermostat. It had to be replaced before the property sale was final. When the property was inspected for sale, there were a few other deficiencies overlooked by the representative of National Property Management. I've had a few interactions with this group over the past few months and each time has seemed a little shady. The properties I viewed were really, really dirty. The upkeep on the properties was definitely lacking, the representative hosting the showing was little to no help when we had questions, and it seems super shady that you can never actually speak to anyone directly over the phone- like it's not even an option. E-mail responses have been pretty unprofessional (as attested to in some of the responses to comments here). Rental applications include a section for you to provide your checking account and routing number- which is not needed to verify your credit, so I'm not sure why they are requesting it. When I inquired, they said I could leave that section blank- so if it's not required for validation purposes, why are they even requesting it? What kind of operation charges you a fee to pay your rent? (I know, I'm not "in the business," but you're renting houses to people who need to rent houses, not to other people who rent houses, so your operation should reflect an appreciation for those needs, not your own.) It's too bad, because many of the properties have potential, they just seem really poorly managed by a pretty shady operation. I would not recommend. If you are looking for a management company to help you take care of your rental property and assist in the management of tenants and repairs, DO NOT USE Rent KC. Their focus and priority is on the tenant, not you and your property, which since you are paying them the priority should at least be equal. They could never provide me with a single receipt when repairs where made for proof of service. They claimed to have paid repair people out of my escrow account but then months later I would hear from the company that they had never been paid. At one point I was notified that the furnace needed repair and that tenants had no heat. I approved repairs and was told it was being taken care of. 2 months later I found out nothing had ever been done. Rent KC is clearly not a company who cares about their owners or tenants. Communication is unreliable and often rude. Save your self stress and frustration and go with any other management company in Kansas City. Their are several good one. read more

HORRIBLE property managers (I can't put zero stars). Everything is done by email. I constantly have to follow up on my property and NO feed back. You get fees upon fees above and beyond the monthly management fees, $2 to make the monthly deposit into your account, $4 to for them to mail you the annual 1099, I've even had them charge me for work not on my property. I end up coordinating most of the repairs and maintenance myself. I'm actively searching for a new management company. read more

We were trying to rent a property that is listed with this company. We fully explained our situation to the "showing agent" and she was very positive about the fact that we would be ok given our situation. We completed all of the required paperwork paid the money to have the background and criminal checks done. Amazingly yes 10 years ago we had some struggles paying all of our bills but that was 10 years ago really?!?!?! Two weeks later we are told that they are waiting to see if someone better comes along and that we now have to deal with someone else Courtney Leslie and all I can say is I am thoroughly amazed that she manages to get anything rented at all. When speaking to her she seemed as though she was preoccupied and didn't really have the time to pay any attentiont to the phone call. Also she doens't seem that interested in receiving our last 7 years worth of rental history and responsible bill paying to present to the owners for proof that our financial situation isn't as a 10 year old credit report makes it appear to be, or in contacting the owners of the property to see if they are interested in seeing any of this paperwork. Now today when speaking to her I am told that the owners are not calling her back and that they told her they really don't like where they are now and will probably be moving back. Don't you think you could have told me that before I spent the application money on this property? I just think that you would be better serving yourself to go somewhere else because you will get nothing but the run around from this company. read more

NPMG will answer your phone call exactly one time: when you call to make an appt to view a property. After that, email only, and it's different people answering every time, some of them with very poor reading comprehension. Getting anything fixed took months (including broken window locks). I had great neighbors who provided me with contact info for the home owner and for the most part, we bypassed NPMG and took care of everything--including repairs--between the two of us. The owner severed his relationship with them in August, and I began paying rent to his new (and awesome!) management company in September. Recently, NPMG sent me a bill for $2550.00, claiming back rent for September, October and November. For a house they have not managed since August (and managed poorly before that). They claim it was a "software glitch", and even that they "made a special trip to the office, since this stressed you out so much." And yet, they can't seem to generate a new statement that shows a zero balance. I felt like my hands were tied when I rented from them, because they can really make your life miserable as a renter. Had all but forgotten them until this, so I'm glad they reminded me that I do have the ability to warn others about this company. read more
