Seriously. Woohoo! As good as it gets! Every July 4th, this collection of uber talented youths comes back to its roots in Evergreen, Colorado (my hometown!) and performs a Independence Day tribute that is one of the best in the country. The NRO is an international selection of top notch high school prodigies, and while thousands try out, nay, millions... only a select few get the chance to join the ranks. Actually, I think the conductor said around 800 try out annually. Still, pretty select group. A must see if they are in your neck of the woods, or you get up to the Breckenridge area. read more

We received tickets from a friend of a friend. We had a great time. The setting was awesome. The music was amazing, it was so neat to watch! We also enjoyed reading up on the members and hearing their story in the bio's of the program. The only con was that it started so late 7:30. Living in Leadville, it was quite a hall. Overall, great date night of our comfort zone. read more

Today we attended an amazing Classical Kids Live performance of Gershwin's Magic Key. I was expecting an orchestral concert, but where I was wowed is that they had 2 talented, animated & expressive, actors telling a story during the musical performance. Coordinating pictures and videos from early 1900's New York played on screens around the orchestra. This went beyond a children's concert. Afterwards they held an instrument petting zoo where kids could try out a variety of instruments. The organizers obviously took great care to make this performance engaging for children. What a wonderful event this was. I can't remember the last time a musical performance gave me goosebumps and brought a tear to my eye. There were at least two instances where I was trying not to cry because it was a children's performance and I felt silly. The performance was truly beautiful. It was totally worth the 2 hour drive to Breckenridge. I will keep my eye on the NRO concert schedule in the future for a kid free night. read more

I am so lucky to live in Summit County and get to enjoy hearing these young, highly talented musicians play throughout town and at the beautiful Riverwalk Center every summer. Last night's performance of the Concierto de Aranjuez and Stravinsky's Petrushka was beautiful and engaging. This was one of their free community concerts, and attracted many locals and visitors that are possibly new to the symphony. It was a joy to watch their delight. I'm looking forward to many more performances over the next several weeks - with Copland, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Gershwin, Strauss, and Beethoven on the menu. I'll be sad to miss my favorite Patriotic Salute on the 4th of July, but if you're in town, don't miss it - it sends shivers up my spine and sends national pride through me just thinking about all the years' past I've enjoyed this tradition. read more

This place has the best Fourth of July concert! It only runs about 75 minutes and then the fireworks begin. The program is full of American tunes that everyone knows and the conductor is very entertaining and friendly. The symphony is full of current students and recent grads from all over the country and the world. The conductor took the time to introduce everyone that was from a country other than the U.S., which I thought was really cool. I had no idea they attracted musicians on the world-wide level. I really appreciate the opportunity that they are providing for all these young musicians. They bring so much talent for the community to enjoy! Parking can be difficult, so you might want to walk or come down early. We enjoy coming early because there are plenty of places to eat in town for dinner and many shops to explore. read more

Went to opening night for the 2012 season, and completely enjoyed the performance! Talented, young performers; great concert environment (beatiful concert hall for a small town); and a really charming conductor. Regarding the conductor....He added so much by giving insights into the music. For example, one piece was converted for a symphony from four-handed piano pieces. In addition to describing this change, he had the pianist play a small portion followed by the entire symphony playing the same portion. Hearing the transformation made the piece more interesting. I will definitely be going back!!! And, here's the thing; get the "cheap seats". It's a small concert hall; the last row ain't that far back. And if you want to be truly adventurous (super cheap) during the warmer summer nights, bring a blanket and a picnic, and sit outside - you'll be under the stars while listening to the beautiful music. read more

Went the Opening Night concert and had a spectacular time! The National Repertory Orchestra is a top-notch orchestra and these young musicians put on a fabulous performance! Will definitely be coming back to their other concerts- this orchestra really is a gem in Breckenridge. read more

This group of incredibly talented and enthusiastic musicians is a pleasure to hear and watch in Breckenridge.. The Riverwalk Center setting is beautiful and there is not a bad seat in the house. I don't know of another place where you can experience this professional quality classical music at such a reasonable cost. Anyone in the Denver or Vail area should take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for great music! read more

The National Repertory Orchestra just had their opening night concert for the 2011 season and it was outstanding! Carl Topilow, the Music Director, has put together an amazing orchestra. Review: June 18 National Repertory Orchestra Opening Concert The National Repertory Orchestra June 18 opening night "Orchestra Showcase", performed by 89 of the best young upcoming musicians, was near perfection, setting the stage for a series of equally exciting upcoming concerts. The coordination of syncopated rhythms and sounds within each of the sections and the several solo obbligatos were most impressive. The performance of Dvorak's Symphony #9, "From the New World", in particular will long remain in memory for those who attended, with the depth of expression for each of the well known repeating musical motivs reflecting the commitment of each of the players. Maestro Carl Topilow also conducted with precision, enunciating with the baton each of the beats and with a wave of the hand and facial expressions to bring each of the sections and soloists perfectly in the performance of prescribed interludes. The immediate experience of each of these young musicians over the summer concert series will open up doors for opportunities of future individual and orchestral performance.
