Don't go here if you're a veteran they advertise specifically to veterans and I was a student with them on active duty. When I got out I continued my education with them and they failed to process my financial aid and GI Bill. I continued following up with them for months but just got the run around. Not having income coming in and the class load overwhelmed me.... I ended up dropping out.... I was finally contacted about my GI bill after I left the school. Anyways there are lots of nefarious educational institutions waiting to scam people. Unfortunately National University is one of them. Be careful read more

My three year journey at National University is coming to an end. Overall, my experience with National's online e-college has been a good one. Some of the courses proved challenging, I have had some really great instructors, and worked with some great (and not so great) students. However, it has not been without issues. If you attended National University in 2013, and were enrolled in the BSITM program online (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management), I'd like to hear from you. More specifically, if you were enrolled in the online course, ITM440-10628-Database Concepts & Data Model, from 1/7/2013 to 2/2/2013, with Dr. Ahmad Hadaegh, and you failed the class, I definitely want to hear from you. I am attempting to obtain a refund for this course and want to hear from other students who were in the class. I think all who were enrolled in that class deserve a refund of tuition, no matter the grade received. This is the ONLY class I have had a problem with at NU, and the only time I have had an issue with any class at any school. This is one of those issues where, if it were an advertised product, I'd be claiming false advertisement. read more

Buyer beware! National University makes you sign a waiver that essentially makes you the admissions counselor. My wife enrolled in National for an administrator credential, which her school district said she qualified for. After paying over $10,000 and completing the program, National University told her that the requirements for an administrator credential had changed and that she did not qualify to receive one, even after successfully passing all the required courses. In other words, unlike every legitimate university that pre-screens applicants; National University gladly takes your money, places all of the responsibility on you to determine if you actually qualify, and then only at the end tells you whether or not there is an issue. National refused to offer any refund and was far from helpful. read more

I'm very disappointed. I attended National University a number of years ago and completed my program in good standing with good grades. It was quite expensive but the frustrating thing is whenever you need something from them they are only interested in trying to get you to take more classes. No alumni support whatsoever. Today I needed support with a credential application that the state commission says they should process because it's where I completed my classes. The gal said they don't do that anymore (help people?) and I should write UCSD. I didn't attend UCSD or pay them the fortune I paid NU. A while ago I ordered my transcripts & discovered that the expensive study abroad Spanish classes I took they no longer have a record of even though I still have my certificates and paperwork. The registrar said they can't help me unless I want to take more classes. Seriously???!!!!! What happened to those units and classes??? Very frustrating. read more

I spoke with an admissions counselor, Alexandra Wilson from the Oxnard location, who was friendly in one way, but was not for more than half of our conversation . She was very scripted sounding and would hardy provide any information by phone. All she really wanted to do was briefly describe the program and get off the phone. On a rating of 1 to 10 for advising, I would give her a 5 or 6. She was not encouraging and overall I felt like she was just doing the bare minimum required. I feel that Alexandra needs to learn how to deliver and present information in a more caring and friendly way. When I asked if any financial Aid was available she said "nope," and then said "but you can get student loans." Which by the way is a form of financial aid. I believe she was just referring to grants. Half the time she spoke to me, it felt cold and unprofessional. I can see why there are so many bad reviews on this school about how they are just there to take your money. I'm definitely not interested in attending and will be sharing this experience with anyone I know who is considering attending. read more

I want to make it clear that this review is specifically for Allison Carruthers in Financial Aid at the Carlsbad location and not for the school itself. Approximately one year ago I visited National University Carlsbad campus because I was interested in the BSN program. I had not attended school for over 20 years and was attracted to the one class a month curriculum. I met with an enrollment adviser as well as a financial aid counselor. My experience at the school was negative. The financial aid adviser was unable to present the information in a clear and concise manner, she did not answer questions and had a negative attitude. At the time, I had never received any sort of financial aid and knew nothing about it. I left the school with no idea of whether or not it was affordable and promptly enrolled at Palomar College. I have now completed over a year at Palomar and am an A student with the exception of one B. I recently had lunch with a colleague who is pursuing his BS degree at University of Phoenix. We spoke about financial aid and he informed me that the federal government provides low interest loans to anyone who qualifies. These are non credit based loan. I had been under the impression that the only loans available were private. Because of this information, I made an appointment again at National University. I remembered that my experience had been negative but I assumed that I would meet with different individuals. I also felt confident in my academic abilities and my financial aid knowledge. On August 14th I met with Christina in Admissions. She was helpful and patient and refreshed my memory on the costs associated with the program. I explained to Christina that I needed to make a very fast decision because my classes at Palomar began on the 19th of August. Unfortunately for me, I had poor timing. Many of the staff members that had answers to my questions were at an award ceremony. I had to wait until the 16th of August to meet with Financial Aid, which was literally the day before my classes at Palomar. My appointment was with Allison. After I sat in Allison's cubicle, she began talking at me and I quickly realized that she was the same person I had met with prior. Allison was friendly at first, but the moment I ask a question her demeanor change. I explained to her that she was bombarding me with information and could she please slow down and answer questions that were pertinent to my current situation. Allison said "I am not going to sit here and tell you what you want to hear". Since Allison did no information gathering about my situation she had no idea what I wanted to hear. Allison ignored my request that she slow down. She spoke quickly, refused to make eye contact and interrupted me every time I tried to ask a question. Her manner was demeaning. When I told her she was not giving clear information she said "It's your fault for giving me the wrong answers". At one point, she insinuated that I could not afford to attend school at National University and that it was doubtful that I could "make the grade" to be selected for the nursing program. I literally sat with my head in my hand as she insulted me and then continued to bombard me with information. The more my stress became obvious, the worse Allison treated me. I finally stopped her and for the fourth time asked her to simply answer two questions. Allison's attitude made it clear that she did not like someone else controlling the conversation. I asked my two questions for which I received curt, one word responses. I explained to her that my stress level was incredibly high and I had a very short time to make a major life decision. She refused to help me. I couldn't believe that once again I was being stonewalled by the same person who had kept me from enrolling a year ago. I asked Allison if I could please speak with her supervisor or another financial aid representative. She said, "too bad, I'm the only one here". To which I replied "then could you please be a human being and "f ing" help me. Because of Allison's inability to communicate effectively and because of her lack of concern for the well being of others, I have spent over a year at Palomar College taking general ed classes, most of which do not transfer to NU. I could have attended National University a year ago and I would be just entering the Nursing Program by now. I have now been denied admittance to the school because Allison filed a complaint against me for using the "f" work. She has lied and exaggerated saying that I told her to go "F" herself, which is not true. She has defamed my character with other staff members and lied to gain their support. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and speaking with legal council. Go to another location if you want to attend this school. read more

Love the college, hate this particular location. If there was a different location closer I would totally avoid this place at all costs. The advisers are not helpful and do not go out of their way to help you. Also, they are liars. I tried to cancel the TEACH grant from my profile within the 30 days allowed with no penalty, and they ignored my email for a month. I sent her another one and she was soooo rude! Telling me that she had already replied to me so it was my fault, no, you didn't. My spam folder and my inbox have nothing from you. They then told me that I could cancel it by calling the financial aid hotline and by sending the financial aid department an email. I did. However, I learned three months later that this did not cancel it. Thanks. So thanks to the wonderful staff here, I ended up having to pay $300 in interest that I would not have had to pay if they did their job correctly. Oh, and none of them return your calls. Also, the receptionists are pointless. I had to explain to her how to sign her name on my SSMP Exam Check-In form. And their computer lab has zero enforced rules so you could get stuck with a group of yelling people while you are trying to take an exam. So I have started calling an office an hour away just to get the correct information, and unfortunately, they wont let me switch to the advisers in La Mesa because I do not live in the area. Within a 24 hour period of requesting information on this school I have been contacted EIGHT times via phone calls, text, and email!!! This is borderline harassment and you have now lost a potential student. They're obviously more worried about the amount of students (aka money) they can get, than just being helpful and letting people who are busy get back to them on their own time. National University has giving me the opportunity to get two degree while I worked full time to support myself. This specific location has done so much for me. I drive all the way to the Carlsbad location from Temecula for help in all different areas of my education. I recently went down to this location to take my CORE Exam Scott Dye was amazing and helped me in every area of continuing my program. The financial advisor located at Carlsbad was able to sit down with me, discuss my loans and what my next steps were in this area. She was a very nice, polite, and helpful women. Even the receptionist was very sweet and helpful. I have never had a bad experience with this location and plan to continue working with them until I finish my Masters Degree. read more

Let's talk about nonprofit, when I tried to apply for master program at national university and ask them financial aid, they are saying our financial aid office shouldn't contact you unless you are a student. Great! That's means I need to pay my tuition first, and not sure if I'm qualified for the aid. $2000 per month per class is not cheap, and divinely expensive than CSU. I would really say anyone beware, but in particular Veterans. While it is veteran founded, I wouldn't say it is veteran friendly. I initially signed up for classes on Camp Pendleton and was drawn to the one class a month curriculum. Hindsight 20/20, I seriously wish I had avoided this place all together. My adviser on base, Susan, is the only good experience I had with the staff besides professors. I would literally give this no stars if I could. I will say I have started at University of San Diego and that is a school that displays how things should be done and they actually care about the student. So, initially, I had come off active duty when I began at National. About ten months later I went on active duty for 86 days as a reservist. FOR WHATEVER REASON, they backdated all my tuition rates to display active duty and caused a debacle with the VA and that's only the beginning. (BTW, if the VA actually thinks I was active duty that whole time they are going to want me to pay back the BAH I received the entire time I was attending school) Getting any of the workers in student accounts or the financial aid office to understand this is impossible, nor do they care. Upon PROVING with paperwork that I was not active duty the entire time, they still did not care. Of note, the only reason I even noticed any of this was because they were HOLDING MY DEGREE AND SAYING I OWE THEM 6,000 + dollars! I have been dealing with this for two months now. Mind you, no one wants to answer their phones or call you back. Again, they just don't care. Meanwhile, I cannot register for any further classes without presenting my degree to USD which National is wrongfully holding on to. Upon being provided with an account audit, I see where the problem lies. They are all sorts of jacked up. The amount they say the school paid me directly for financial aid and grants is ironically around 6,000 more than is actually reflected in my bank statements. The amount I ACTUALLY received is on par with what I was supposed to receive for Financial Aid and pel. So, to me.... it seems like a scam ESPECIALLY since no one wants to answer their phone or actually accept that something beyond my control is happening. Most Universities have the capability to contact the President in severe situations. Of course, not National. Seriously, BEWARE. I am literally looking into hiring a lawyer at this point. read more

National University has been my place of education for the past few years. It is the staffs dedication, encouragement and overall concern for each and every students individual needs that has provided me the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. As a young student it was difficult to maintain financial stability while attending classes, but the financial aid department at National University worked endlessly to ensure that each of my concerns were addressed promptly and professionally. I would like to bring specific attention to Allison Carruthers. As a result of her hard work, optimism and confidence in my ability to build a brighter future for myself, I was inspired and motivated to complete my degree. I would give nothing but my highest regards to this University, but more importantly the staff. I received my BA, credential, 1st Masters, and finishing up my 2nd Masters at National. I just wanted to note that I thought Allison Carruthers was the most helpful Financial Aid Advisor. She has sat through with me, e-mailed me, and talked to me over the phone to help me over the years at National. She really took the time to explain what I didn't understand (which was most of the financial aspects) and to help me with all of my issues and concerns. She was the most patient of advisors. She would get back to me in the same day, e-mail me links, explain things over and over, etc. I even referred some friends who attend National to her for those reasons. She definitely deserves this recognition because she has helped out tremendously. read more

This review was based on my on-line experience I was going for Masters in Leadership at National University (NU). I did not like the fact that I had to schedule two hours/week to seat infront of my computer and hear a professor lecture, they assigned way too much reading and because of the speed of the class One class/month it is hard to absorb what was learn, by the time you take a second class what was learn on previous class is forgotten. I also dislike the fact that they kept increasing the requirements it literally went from 10 classes to 14 classes. The student advisors are not well trained in the requirements for each degree and are not up to date with the changes. Because they are a private university they are allow to change the requirements; regardless, of your start date; In addition, I also hated the fact that one has to take a 25 questioned quiz and write a 10 page paper two papers /month. I parted ways after taking 6 classes at NU and had to start from scratch at Grand Canyon University (GCU) on-line program and accredited school. When I left NU I send out an email to the department's Chair expressing my concerns, nor the Chair person or the Student advisor try to convinced me to stay or send me an email to make it better; therefore, I came to the conclusion that NU does not care for the success of the students they just want your money. .
