Even though I had a great relationship…read morewith everyone at the school, I still want to give future students an honest perspective on the program. If you're looking for a program you can complete relatively quickly and you're willing to put in the time and effort to learn the trade, you can succeed here. However, from my experience, you will have to depend heavily on self-learning and help from classmates. I personally felt that the instructors in both the AM and PM classes could have been much stronger in the classroom and more hands-on in the lab. When I first entered the program, I knew absolutely nothing about the electrical trade, so most of what I learned came from putting in the time to teach myself, practice, and learn from my classmates. Another issue was materials. We would sometimes run short on electrical materials and have to wait a while for more to come in. Even when they finally arrived, the amount we were allowed to use was limited, which made it harder to get as much hands-on practice as we should have. I think future students should know is that job placement assistance was not what I expected. The school tells students that they will help with finding employment, and the website mentions "Job Placement Assistance," but in my experience, I had to do most of the job searching and applying on my own. My biggest piece of advice to future electrical students is: once you receive your ET card and OSHA 10, start applying immediately. Don't wait until graduation. Apply everywhere, email electrical companies directly, call companies, and go above and beyond to get your foot in the door. CET can give you an opportunity to enter the electrical trade, but you need to be consistent and willing to teach yourself, practice, ask questions, and actively pursue employment. Your success will depend heavily on how much effort you put into it.

Maybe it has changed since 2004, but who knows... Anyway, I didn't learn basic math until I was 19 years old. Seriously. I literally could not do short division... well, until I went to the Long Beach School for Adults. At the time (I don't know about presently), they had a math learning center for remedial dummies like me and they had the most kind, caring, compassionate teachers there. They saw I was red-in-the-face embarrassed that I didn't know this basic stuff (nevermind that I blew the English assessment out of the water) and they re-assured me that it was fine, this was completely normal, and that they would get me up to speed. And they did. I learned all the math I needed to know and now, I am currently a calculus student at the college level. :-) I'll never forget my experience here!

Nicole was/is able to adjust her teaching methods to best suit my daughter's needs and abilities. Nicole not only dedicates her complete attention to her students, she also makes it her personal mission to make learning and homework fun. My daughter comes home eager to do her homework and actually likes make up stories to go with family projects. We have been utilizing this tutoring center for just over 3 years and I am comfortable enough to say it has been worth every penny!! Nicole was able to recognized my daughter had a learning disability within just a few sessions, but due to her age the school did not test my daughter. This school year my daughter was finally given an IEP which just confirms Nicole is amazing and my daughter is in the best of hands when it comes to her education. As for the tutoring center as a whole, the manager/tutor Mr. Kris is great! If at any time Nicole is running a little behind schedule he has willingly stepped in to begin my daughter's session so we are able to stick to our own schedule. The center is well staffed with tutors who are more then willing to answer any question a parent may have, as well as willing to schedule sessions according to the student/parents life not their own. Located near Rowland High School, it's in a quiet neighborhood so I was rather taken aback that it had been here for a long time. RACE has such a wide range of classes varying from art classes for adults to swim classes for children. The office staff is very attentive and provides a lot of information to inquiring visitors. My mom has taken a digital photography course to advance her photography skills as well as the Introduction to Reiki course years ago, which she highly recommended for me to take as it taught her essential massaging techniques that she still utilizes. Also, I recently enrolled my little brother into the karate class offered by the Recreation Department, and he loved it! It's very affordable and the instructor created a welcoming and fun environment for the kids. I highly recommend this school, especially for those who would love to spend time learning about something new. You never know what you'll learn!
