A much less polished version of the more well known wax museum franchise, the National Wax Museum is still a good stop when purchased as part of a package from companies like Go City. The staff are warm and friendly, and some of the pieces are quite good. In addition to real world figures they also have characters (like cartoons and Marvels Deadpool). I hadn't been to a wax museum before, so I have nothing to compare this to. But I enjoyed my visit to Ireland's National Wax Museum. The clever layout of the building takes you on a path through three floors. Most of the figures in the museum are of people of Irish (or partial Irish) descent who've had notable roles in science, entertainment, sports, literature and history. There are some non-Irish exceptions like Michael Jackson, who is here maybe because he had an estate in Ireland, or maybe because he's just too famous. I most enjoyed the basement floor with its exhibits covering Ireland's history. The exhibits there begin from the time of the Celts and Vikings in Ireland, to the Kingdom of Ireland, the Easter Rising of 1916, Irish independence, and finally modern Ireland. In addition to wax figures, these exhibits also feature audio narratives read in the first person by voice actors. I never thought I could learn so much about a country's history from a wax museum! Admission is €15 for adults and €10 for children. The cost of admission was included in our Dublin Pass. The self-guided tour took a little over an hour, and I thought it was time well-spent. read more

I walked into this place by myself thinking it would be a 5 minute tour and I thought it would be kinda boring but i was in for a surprise. I had such an awesome experience even though i was by myself. I walked in there and the staff were so freakin nice. As i started the tour i still had my doubts but soon enough i fell in love with it. It was a tour through the history of the Irish people, their media, their political history and their religious history. If you are interested in history and culture as i am, with a touch of the artistic side, this is the place for you to check out. It was fun! read more

Why?! Well why not, I swear SOME people don't know how to relax and have a little fun. I'm on vacation with a lot of time on my hands, plus my inner child was screaming to go play with some wax characters... so off we went. Of course if I lived here, I probably wouldn't even go near the place. So after it was all said and done, I can say that some of the wax people looked really bad, (hell, Wisconsin has better ones) and some were very cool. The best part was running around in that building that is built like a maze, taking some goofy pics, and learning a little ( and I do mean very little) Irish history. Also, there was a green screen in the kiddy area, where you jam like a rock star. Actually the whole place is more for kids then adults. The staff is cool and pretty much let you run wild. It's only 10 euro and a good way to kill some time. *** You know when you're in a really good Wax Museum when you get this feeling like Vincent Price might jump out to get you. Brought my niece here last week. She said she really enjoyed and had me crawling through the enchanted tunnel more than once to say the least. She was 7 so wasn't really too much interested in the history or whether the statues actually looked who they were supposed to look like - which in most cases they kind of did, but there were a few that were aweful such as Kylie and Colin Farrell. It only took an hour to go around the while lot and I left wanting a bit more for my money- 2 adults and one child for 32 euro is pretty steep. I was waiting all the way up from the basement for the xfactor - video yourself experience but was soooooooo disappointed! There was a drum set with no sticks and a keyboard. Not a microphone in sight. But I had a go anyway. Little did I know there were screens outside where people could watch. The National Wax Museum Plus was 15 Euro, and is probably better suited to children than adults. I've been to other wax museums that were better. It was hard to read the descriptions of the wax figures because of poor lighting and positioning. There were some eerily close looking wax figures but most were poor representations of the originals. The wax likeness did not look lifelike. Donald Trump was there and a poor likeness. Probably better than having the original there. It was loud with students there, and most of it seemed designed to this age group as well. I just wanted to get out. read more

Ok, ok... maybe I was bit harsh before. I know, I didn't expect to read that either... but much like the Grinch, whose heart grew three times its size at Christmas, I've had an epiphany. Having visited and viewed the display with the eyes of an adult, I rated the museum at that level. However, there's a good chance few 8 year olds could tell you who Ian Paisley is, or judge the accuracy of a James Joyce wax portrait. This place is really a kids paradise offering interactive displays, sound effects and the chance to leap around the place unabated for a few hours while adults trail behind. On my way out a staff member pointed out the hours, then asked if I'd be back soon. Once he heard there might be a gang of kids on the way, a stack of coupons materialised to help with the price of admission. So the moral of my update here is that there's an audience for every venue, and The National Wax Museum plays directly to theirs. read more

I think this place did a great job of the wax figures and the overall layout and display of the place. Make sure you go on Groupon to purchase your admission beforehand and you will save money! The horror section is very demonic and totally not for any kids what-so-ever. I saw a 10-year old kid that a stupid parent allowed in there; who said afterwards, "That was totally scary." I didn't know what to expect and had a family visitors from overseas so decided to bring them .. What a surprise . The rooms are very well done , different themes and decades per history .. I've been to wax museums before and this one seems a bit outdated. It is larger inside from what you would expect looking at the building and for the price of about $13 dollars, it's not that bad. This was one of the places you could visit with the Dublin pass so that's how we ended up here. There is a gift store that sells souvenirs and slushies when you first enter. One thing that makes this different than other wax locations is the Irish history and it wasn't just celebrities or famous people, but animation characters and a horror section. Their wax statues aren't as realistic as Madame Tussauds , but Madame Tussauds is also more expensive so for the price point, it is worth a visit if you are looking for something to do. read more

Dublins tourist list and attractions would.have this on it but its not a full day out experience. The layout is very cramped and small. And some of the wax figures i tink have been there since the early 80s. There are no up to date figures or famous people. Some of the kids attractions are not very interactble. Its in an old bank and the steps are very steep . Its deffo very out of date and needs a proper revamp. The tour itself is good and informative but some of the figures are very bad representations of the real person. Hasnt a patch on madame tussads. The coffee shop is very small. But the make your wax cast of your hand is very good. The science area is very good. The studio part wasnt tho i had to hit the floor a bang to get it to work. Its a good way to pass an hour but dont make a full day plan to go to out as it wud be over with in less than an hour. read more

Really people? 2 stars, 3 stars? Are you just so uptight you couldn't have a little fun? Guess what.....you're in Dublin-RELAX!!! The Wax Museum was a blast! Yes the wax pieces weren't perfection, but I've been to the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museums and this was the same level of quality. It's not about how good or bad the statues are, it's about the presentation and the story. The fact that this museum leads you through pieces of Irish history is enough reason to see it. The kid's room is fun (Simpsons, Sponge Bob, A Leprechaun, Batman!) and the little random "Horror" wing is something you just have to see! What a sense of humor the people creating these works must have. The floating random popes made me laugh and the Jack and the Beanstalk piece was fantastic. This was absolutely worth the time (an hour or so) and the cost (we got 10% off). When traveling abroad you really need to just let go and have some fun and a well made Wax Museum is just the ticket. read more

Came here because we thought it would be cool and hip like Madame Tussads. This is more like a mini history museum in wax. Lots of Viking history, so if that's what your interested in then you'll love it. We didn't. Coolest part for us was the Hall of horrors where we could be a part of a Freddie Kruger scene (we're pretty twisted huh?!). There was a room with some celebrities like Boy George and Michael Jackson. There was also a little recording studio where you could play instruments and be recorded then pick up the video at the gift shop. All in all just Ok, not worth our Euros. read more

The wax museum looks great from the outside. The staff are friendly and helpful as I went to submit a 3D model in hopes to land a job there. I was then given a free look in one of the rooms where they had different displays and props of U2, The Beatles, Micheal Jackson and Batman and other wax models. However I deduce marks as my 3D model was refused and they would not give me a free tour of the full museum, ah well. read more

On a last minute unplanned trip to Dublin we needed someone to do and happened to come across here. For 12 Euro I had no complaints. It was a great day and there was plenty of photo opportunity for those who are snap happy like me. If you take the time to listen and read the information it has a lot of interesting information. The figures themselves aren't exactly top quality but there recognisable and still look like there watching you were every you go, but again for 12 Euro I had no complaints. Theres a interactive science area for "children" which I had a ball in and would only change the size of rooms. They have a small cafe which is also extremely reasonable priced. Overall we had a great time despite hearing it was rotten and would recommend going along. The rooms can be a little small at times so I don't think it'd be great for large groups read more

We went on a Saturday afternoon when we had nothing better to do and we'd never been. Started well- the lady on the front desk was very friendly. We went at the latest slot as we'd gotten up late and figured it'd be more fun because there would've no one else there. The Irish history was good- dated but good. Some random coloured flashing lights that aren't necessarily on-theme with the Irish folk room but was good. The children's area was really badly worn down and not much interaction for kids. The puppets just shake really rather than actually move as such. The worst part was when we got to the science floor. We had just arrived and were trying the different science gadgets and I noticed a man at the door checking his watch. I took no notice at first but he was really making his presence known. As we left the room he said we had 20mins left and they were closing. Fair enough I thought- we should be done by then we only had 2 more areas to view. However he continued to follow us to the other areas and check his watch at each exit. It really took away from the experience being rushed out. Id always be very conscious of not keeping anyone so when he said 20mins I would have made sure it was 15. The fact we were followed around and made feel incredibly awkward and really ruin the experience. For €28 (two of us) id expect a better. read more

Lame. I was relieved that admission was included with our Dublin Pass. I however will never get the 20 minutes of my lifetime back that I wasted in this sideshow. The wax models are hit or miss. Some are very good, some are very bad. The scenes seem stuffed randomly in to the nooks and crannies of the building itself. They've stuffed the two last Popes on a window sill in a staircase? Where's the reverence? Rooms are cramped and awkwardly intimate with even few guests. I found the old vaults down here of the Bank of Ireland more enthralling than the entertainment I paid to see. Some of the literary giants of Dublin embodied in paraffin was somewhat amusing. Might be good if you are traveling with wee-ones (stay out of the basement to avoid the blood and guts) but I as an adult I would not waste time in here and focus on the much more poignant and significant sites that Dublin has to offer. read more

The National Wax Musuem Plus leads you to believe you are visiting Dublins version of Madame Tussauds. For a €12.50 entrance fee, you are justified in your expectations to be impressed. In the words of David O'Dohery, 'Lower your expectations!'. You won't be. There is a few highlights to the walk around the wax museum, for example Gollum in the room of horrors and Freddie Krueger are done quite well, but very little else impressed. Models did not look, on average, like who they were supposed to be, with costumes and props the only giveaways. There is also a bizzare science room with things to 'see and do', which while interactive and interesting, had no relavance to the rest of the museum. Irish history buffs would be glad to see the inclusion of a few historical figures and writers, but overall a massive letdown. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Loved this place. Great fun. Wished the chamber of horrors was more interactive and scary but still it was great. The bright colors in the enchanted area were lovely. The lady at the reception desk was so nice and very helpful. Even told us a place to go for a discount cup of coffee. For a touristy trip away this is a definite must see. Relatively low quality wax museum. If it did not have so much real Irish history that it teaches as you go through I would give it a one. BUT - it does give you a real quick lesson in Irish history from the earliest of times through the independence movement and right up to today. That's worth the price of admission since far too many tourists just show up and have no knowledge or interest in the country they are visiting. If you've ever wondered what a celebrity was like in the flesh the head here. This wax museum isn't as impressive as Madame Tassauds but it does contain every famous Irish person you can think of which is impressive. There is also a chambers of horrors here so if you get sick of seeing pop stars, politicians, actors etc the you can head to the chamber for a change of scene. read more

The venue from the outside looks great, however not sure if it is the local taxi drivers, but the walk up to the National Wax Museum smelled disgusting of people using the area as a public toilet, upon entering the place looks unclean and the exhibits are poorly displayed, it may have looked great when it first opened, but no one seems to be looking after the upkeep now, in the discovery room the majority of the exhibits were broken, All I can say is that I am glad I had free tickets otherwise I would have asked for my money back, its embarrassing that it is being touted as a major tourist attraction in Dublin read more
