Came here for lunch the other day and really enjoyed myself. It's mostly burgers and hot dogs but with a Native American twist - basically they used bannock instead of regular burger or hot dog buns. It seems so simple, but it's a really unique way to have a burger or a hot dog. They also have tacos and other menu items. The condiment stand here is pretty decked out...far beyond your basic mustard, ketchup, and onions most places would have. They've got tea from Mother Earth Essentials and The Algonquin Tea Company, and coffee from Spirit Bear Coffee. I was even told by the man working that the owner will sometimes make off-menu items like elk stew. The cafe is a good size with several tables and chairs. They even have a video game system that plays old Nintendo games, which is pretty cool (at least I thought so, I'm a child of the 90s). They staff is friendly, the atmosphere is fun, and the food is good. It's a pretty unique local business and if you're over by Kingsway/NAIT you should definitely stop by for a bite. I mean they have a sign that says "Don't Panic. We Got Bannock." How can you not love a business like that? read more

I have had the pleasure of being able to chat with the owner while waiting for my Bannock burger when Native Delights had a booth at Mother's Market. Ian is someone that is passionate about his food, and with his partner that is passionate about health, they make a great team. This is Native Delight's first real, sit-down Reataurant. It is in the old Sloppy Hoggs space located very near the NAIT campus. The space is nicely decorated but can be very loud and cramped when busy. The staff are all lovely and friendly, but were struggling a bit as this was their first day open to the public. The ordering process was slow, and we waited for our food for about an hour. PLEASE be patient, I guarantee it will be worth the wait! I have had the pleasure of eating one of Native Delight's bannock burgers previously and I love them. The Bannock is a great recipe that Ian has developed all on his own. He said he wishes it was one that was passed down through generations, but that just isn't the case. Bannock is a "fry-bread" so be prepared to get greasy and use lots of napkins. The patties are made fresh and the rest of the ingredients are also fresh - no processed cheese here! I had the Bison stew. It was full of flavour. The bannock was a delicious way to sop up some of the broth. The Bison was a bit dry, but still really good. Native Delights serves breakfast from 8am to 11am. They have a really healthy looking salad on the menu and a great variety of burgers. There is also a kid's menu. Native Delights has brought Spirit Bear Coffee and Algonquin Teas to the spotlight for you to enjoy. Algonquin's herbal line is one of my go-tos at home. There is street parking only in this area. What can I say, I love their food truck so the fact that I enjoy this restaurant location (which is sadly closing soon) is no surprise to me! I visited recently and was happy with the mix of indigenous decor, good food and a happy server. I mean, there are so few restaurants in Edmonton where you can get good bannock and so this place is certainly worth it! I went for a bison bannock burger during my visit and wasn't disappointed. It was the perfect amount of food! I look forward to checking out their food truck in the future, and it's only too bad I didn't discover this bricks and mortar restaurant until so soon before they'll be leaving this location. The music here was rather entertaining and the fact that they have pictures of some of the famous people who have visited on their wall is great too! Additionally, they have items for sale that are not food items but rather indigenous creations and art. read more

Amazing place. Food was great and it match the company of Chef and Owner Ian Gladue. We had the Nehiyaw Taco and Elk Stew. The complimentary tea was amazing. I called Native Delights in the early afternoon on a Friday just to check when they closed that evening. I was told by a lady that they closed at 10pm. When I showed up at the restaurant at 8:15pm that same day the guy behind the counter said sorry, the grills are turned off and we are about to close. Disappointed, I asked him if they are open on Saturday and he said yes, until 10pm. The very next evening I showed up again at 8:15 pm and encountered a locked door and a lady smoking outside said that they're closed. WTF? I talked to two employees(owners?) of Native Delights and was burned twice in a row. The people who work here are beyond incompetent and unprofessional. They don't seem to mind lying to people over the phone and into people's faces. They don't seem to care whether or not prospective customers like myself mind wasting gas money and driving 20 minutes out of my way to try out there restaurant, only to be given the run around twice. Such a restaurant with such deplorable customer service and unprofessionalism is worth neither my time and money or yours. If clues were shoes the people who run Native Delights would be walking around in bare feet. SIMPLY PATHETIC. read more

Not exactly what I was expecting... But absolutely fantastic! The owner, Ian, is passionate about everything on the menu and it shows. We walked in at 6:45 thinking they closed at 8... Nope. 15 minutes before close and he wouldn't let us polite our way out of there. Buffalo burger and Native taco. The bannock was crispy and warm and everything tasted great. Went there today for lunch, it was fantastic. Service was amazing, very polite and friendly. Just by walking in you can feel the love and passion from all of the workers there. Food was amazing. food overall is actually pretty good, only problem i personally have is serving size. Due to the banock being a very small size when it comes out, the patty matches the size of the bannock, making the portion sizes very small. read more
