This place has been a cornerstone of my childhood and is now being one for my kids. I have my faith because I felt safe here and my kids feel safe here and make friends outside of school that have the strong sense of belief as they do. This church does have its own school for grades K-8 and then right next door is Chaminade-Madonna for 9-12. I know that the school does have a strict dress code and you do have a tuition to pay but the kids I know that have gone to school there say it's great. My kids attend Sunday school there and their catechism teachers are so great with them. Of course to be safe they've all had to be cleared by background checks. My kids sometimes hate having to get up for it, but when they are done with their day there, they can't stop smiling. read more

Let me first start by saying that my family have been parishioners of this parish since moving to Hollywood in 1980. The parish has been a part of so many of our important life events. My 3 siblings and myself attended the school K-8, received all 4 basic sacraments (baptism, confession, communion, and confirmation). Beautiful church and beautiful service. Only thing is that I came during family service instead of solemn mass and I couldn't hear a thing they were saying in the pulpit. There was also a family in front of us that didn't know the mass proceedings and they kept using their children as a distraction and thus I was completely tormented by the time I came out. Ok, let's start with the facility, it floods with the slightest bit of rain, the bathrooms are without air conditioning and as you could imagine impossible to use. The water fountains are not working and all right underneath peigon nests, YUM. The classrooms are crowded, the teachers are treated like crap by the administration. The kids are expected to pick up after the carnival and unleashed on the carnival grounds to pick up trash without gloves or anything. The principal, Ms. Ortiz is such a cold heartless person who only cares for herself. It's interesting to see her two faces. One when she normally walks around the school and talks down to kids and parents like the devil herself. If it wasn't for the name on the door you couldn't believe that she is a representative of a church. I have never met a more judgemental and cold person. Expecially one who claims to have a great religous faith. Then catch her around the priest and you will see the person that she SHOULD be. Unfortunately, the Father isn't always around. This school charges a higher than average amount of money to attend and the kids are forced to learn in filth. The majority of your money is spent on the Admin, the Arch's cut and billboards instead of improving the facility or giving the deserving teachers their due. The school SHOULD be investigated as to their ties to local law enforcement. The Hollywood Police SHOULD be investigated as to the FREE tuition given to the higher up supervisors! All of the Hollywood Police Department's upper staff have their children enrolled there. Call this what you want, a bribe, gratuity or whatever. Whatever you call it, it's ILLEGAL by Florida Statute for a Police Officer to take gifts, goods or services based on their employment as a Police Officer. This is EXACTLY what is going on here. Every time you write a tuition check you are paying for Police Chief's, Commander's, Lieutenant's and god knows who else to go their for free. (I wonder how far this goes? Is city hall involved? Do their children attend for free? Are they aware of this illegal activity?) This means that if you go against the school for any reason or even question what is going on there you will have a visit from a police officer that will tell you to shut up and even refuse to talk to you about an issue. I had an officer tell me that, "All of the higher ups have their kids here for free, so what do you expect." Had a shift commander tell me, "Technically it's a crime but we aren't going to do anyting about it." They even refused to write a report which is against their accreditation rules. Would be nice for someone to look into this. I know it's suprising that the Hollywood Police would be corrupt. If you are a religous sheep that wants to throw your money away while you drink the koolaid then this is the place for you. You may not like what I have written, but it's the truth. If you like the place and want your child learning to be hateful like the staff, then go. This a website where I can publicly explain my experiences. I would like nothing more than to be able to say good things and still have my child there but as a good parent I don't want my child picking up the hateful attitudes taught there. So keep complaining to YELP.COM, I believe that there is a constitution in this country (not observed at Nativity). If you don't like it or disagree, stop crying and get all of your kool-aid drinking friends to write so many nice things reviews that mine is sunk way down at the bottom. If you are involved with the school you know that there is truth behind my words. You obviously bullied the other poor reviewer on this school to take down his review. This is just more evidence of the way the school and the followers work. It's a public website where I am free to exercise my freedom of speech. If yelp doesn't like it, then they would delete it! I strongly disagree with the bad review. The Nativity Catholic Church and School are the best thing that ever happened to my family. Every year the school earns multiple academic and sports awards, and that speaks for it self. Mrs. Ortiz is the principal of the school and she does a remarkable job with the limited budget and tools provided to her. And yes, she is tough just like my principal was when I was in school. The teachers working with our children are fantastic and the kids love them. The facilities are not new and we all know that. However, there are capital improvements done to the school every year. And don't forget that such capital improvements are budget and donations restricted. The Mens Club mentioned by John G does so much for the community, school and church, and I'm honored to be part of it. The Mens Club members are a mix of multiple trades and backgrounds, they are a great example for our children and the community. The organized crime statement its just ridiculous. The Hollywood Police Department is one of the premier lawn enforcement departments in Broward County. If such incident happened, why wasn't it reported to County, State or Federal agencies for investigation? As far as tuition fees. My wife researched tuition fees in the area and The Nativity Catholic School offers a VERY competitive tuition fee compared to other local private schools. Anyway, it is a private school and is a personal budget decision. I LOVE the Nativity Catholic Church and School, I strongly recommend to be part of the parish and I'm extremely satisfied with the level of education, values and support my daughter is getting from the school. read more

Our family is fairly new to Nativity, our daughter started in PreK in 2010 and I have to say that I didn't expect to love Nativity as much as we do. The staff and fellow members, both parish and school, have become like family in a a very short period of time. Everyone does their part, both parents, students and staff to keep Nativity top notch. To John S: Sorry that you had such a horrible experience, but you are missing out on a fantastic school and the people who both attend and staff it. Mrs. Ortiz is always kind to others, I have never seen her talk down to any student and I spend a fair amount of time at the school volunteering. Principals are supposed to be strict and correct students when they are acting out of line or not dressing according to uniform guidelines, and the kids and parents respect her for that. The Jamboree is a fundraiser and the children are not forced to do anything that they do not volunteer to do, they learn to help and be a part of a community even if it is not a beautiful job, it's what they can do to help. read more

Please never send your children to this school. I went there and I can promise you, it is the most traumatic school that anyone could go to. All of the teachers play favorites, and every class has a mean group.. but meaner than mean. I was in a class that scarred me for life.. worse than any hazing... each grade has a group of girls and a group of boys that refer to themselves as, "The Cool Group." They are horrendous people and I know for a fact that it is every single grade, even now. Alex C., you must be in the group of parents that the teachers are friends with and your children must be lucky enough to be in the special group. I used to cry every morning and on the way home. The middle school is basically a slut training program. Nothing is good about the experience that you will get at Nativity. NOTHING. PLEASE, DO YOUR FAMILY A FAVOR AND LEAVE THIS HELLHOLE. Your children will thank you when they do not have severe depression for being called names and being physically abused by their classmates.. or emotionally abused by the staff. Mrs. Ortiz is horrible and anyone that says otherwise must be related to her or her friend. I literally hate every single memory of my childhood at this school. Thank goodness I left before middle school because all of the ex-classmates became either pregnant or MEGA SLUTS. I am very serious. The church is beautiful and I have nothing against the parish. I was an Altar Server and thoroughly enjoyed that. I was emotionally and physically abused my entire experience at Nativity. I tell everyone I know never to go there. I feel bad when I see little kids wearing the uniforms. Personal story: In kindergarten, my first year at Nativity: I was born with cerebral palsy and had years of physical therapy. Keep this in mind. Every day in P.E., we had to play "Duck Duck Goose," and we all HAD to play. The group of kids would always pick me to be the goose because they wanted to laugh at me while I ran with a limp..the teacher would laugh too. I cried every day and one day, the teacher wrote a note to my mother that said: "Your daughter cries during P.E. and she needs to participate." My mother wrote her a long ass note that explained to her how the HORRENDOUS students and the teacher are absolute jerks because I had cerebral palsy. She went on to explain how she should not be a teacher if she would have the nerve to write home because a kid was crying for being laughed at. Every other teacher in the school was afraid of my mother since but it did not change anything really, the teacher was actually promoted. That is just ONE of my stories. I have so many. Just please, never send your child or recommend this awful school to anyone. read more

Lifelong Protestant. Gave Nativity Catholic Church a try because my last three local churches had closed their doors. I figured the Catholic Church is worldwide and not going out of business any time soon. First, I did my homework and learned that the standard Protestant arguments against Catholicism are not only unfounded, but never challenged by most people. Curious, I studied more and learned that the Catholic Church is the thinking man's church, with a solid theological and scriptural foundation, unmatched historical accuracy (did you know the crusades were pilgrimages to help persecuted Christians in the Holy Land, that the Spanish Inquisition saved countless lives that would otherwise have been executed by state authorities and laws?). The list goes on and on. No tithing. They never asked me for one penny. Priests are the lowest paid of any clergy worldwide, the Catholic Church gives and provides more charitable services, education and healthcare than any other entity through its support and structure, no other entity including government or nation gives or does as much for humanity. Nativity is a beautiful church and it is GROWING with a youthful Pastor Zirilli who is compassionate, charming, intellectual, his leadership is amazing and unparalleled energy, Father Julio is also a younger bilingual pastor who is lights up the room with his smiles and gentle humor. All the clergy here care deeply about the congregants. The congregation has all ages, is diverse and there are wonderful events throughout the year and attendance seems to be increasing as others are drawn to this vibrant and cheerful place of worship. If you are not Catholic, just go to ONE mass. Start slow. I was the biggest skeptic out there. There is no pressure whatsoever and most other non Catholic Christian churches impose far more burdens and rules, I've found more freedom and joy here than ever. This church is situated in a nice area of Hollywood and the attached Nativity elementary and middle school is affordable and there is a college preparatory school Chaminade Madonna on the same property. Both are award winning educational establishments that provide high quality education to children and youth of ALL faiths. It's a safe and fun place for kids to go to school and surprisingly affordable. read more

Attended for the first time over the weekend because my husband and I wanted to attend an afternoon service. Looked this place up on Yelp and had a positive experience. We will be back again when we sleep in since our church does not have offer late services. read more

I am not a member of this church, but I make the effort to drive 20-30 minutes to get there. I am absolutely in LOVE with this church. It is majic!!! The outdoor praying area, where they also sometimes have Mass is so peaceful! Sometimes, if I am lucky, they leave the gates open late at night when I can pray silently. I make the trip when I have to meditate and even if the gates are closed, I park in the parking lot and feel the good energy. On Easter, the high school kids reenact a mute/mime crucifixion that will bring you to tears.They have a healing Mass the first Tuesday of the month. They have a prayer chain when you are in desperate need. Every Tuesday night, there is a group that meets at the main church, and all of this besides other activities that they have to offer. The last time I was there, an usher was handing out bulletins with a restaurant coupon... There is love, peace harmony and good energy there! It is a refuge. It gives you strength. You do not have to be Catholic, you only have to want to have peace in your heart and mind. Go, enjoy!!! read more
