We were able to stay for a full 8 days before taking our child out of this school! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL!!! I will begin with stating that our child was 6 years old in 2nd grade, which is young. He started a new school and we were getting a phone call every single day. EVERY SINGLE DAY. He is not that bad as he has had perfect days in his new school. We had already told them that he would need a transition time adjust to this new school and older schoolmates. The story begins..... The principal, Kelvin Jackson, told our child to "Shut up and come with me." after a particularly tough day at school. He did sent us an apology letter. As his father, I could accept that, but we knew that this wasn't the school for him to grow in faith or academically. We did pay over $600+ for him to be in school for a whole 8 days. We spoke with the on-site superintendent, Jason Yarbrough, (the only other review for the school, see below) after initially getting blown off by him the week before. He stated that we HAVE TO PAY $65 FOR AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE!!! We respectfully let him know that we had pulled him out from the principals actions, but that didn't matter as he continuously pointed out the behavior of our child and justify his principal. Let me first say that nobody is as cautious as me when it comes to deciding what school I was going to put my son in to begin his school life. I am so happy I picked Natomas Christian School (NCS). Prior to my son starting school in August-2015 my beautiful wife and mother to my son died from cancer in January-2015. Needless to say we were still deep in our grief. I was faced with having to decide on the best school for my son that would understand the emotional trauma he was in and would work with me to make his transition as smooth as it could be under the circumstances. I looked at both public school and private schools. I quickly knew public school was not an option. My son needed a school that shared the same Christian beliefs as me, promoted prayer in school, did not use the Common Core curriculum, was affordable, had extended care, had a summer program and had small class sizes. NCS met my expectations to the letter. My son's kindergarten teacher (Mrs. Flowers) was the perfect teacher. She had a background in Psychology and was an experienced teacher. My son's transition was rough in the beginning but his teacher and school prayed for him and worked with him. In time he adjusted fine and was reading by Christmas! He is also good at double digit math and his overall confidence level has improved tremendously. I highly recommend NCS to anyone looking for a new school with small class sizes who view educating kids in the way it should be done. My daughter has been attending this new school for about the past 4 weeks, and I love it. Initially, my daughter was upset that we were moving her to a new smaller school. She warmed up to the idea when she learned that she would be working from her laptop or tablet everyday, since she loved technology, but still she was lukewarm. Now, that she's been at the school for a few weeks, I asked her if she likes it and she said "YES!! I get to learn at my own pace and the teachers are really good." OMG!! My daughter has never said she liked school before. Last years she told me that she hated school. Big change for her. So the school customizes the curriculum around where the student is, and works to bring them to their optimal performance level. So, it is individualized. They don't believe in heavy homework and most of the work is done in class, however, you can see EVERYTHING that they are doing, the assignments that they are working on, and their grades in real time. There is never any confusion about what they are working on or where they are. The teachers don't let them move on until they understand it, because that would be reckless and hinder their learning for the remainder of the year. They have to score at least 80% before they can move on, which the teachers work hard with the students on understanding what they are learning. This is JUST what my daughter needed. The school is obviously Christian based, so the values and principles that they teach are in line with my own. I don't fear the bullying type behavior that some school allow to take place in public school. Every week they start with a devotion together and they end the week with chapel, so, the faith teaching that takes place in the school has been amazing. They have a weekly video update on Thursdays, a monthly video update from the superintendent and I feel like I always know what is going on. They also wear uniforms, which is nice for our morning routine. They have field trips, too. The older kids went to a two-night sleepover "conference" with their sister school in Fairfield, where they got to bond with the other students, hear inspirational teachings. Of course, they were closely supervised, with separate sleeping quarters, and there were showers at the place where they were. My daughter loved it and told me what she learned, and she came back fired up. They are heading to the beach later this week. And, they start rolling out the after-school activities next week. Before I posted, I wanted to make sure that I really liked the place, and now I know. She's happier and doing great. She's focused and loves her teachers. From what I see, they all bring a passion to their work each day and enjoy what they are doing. So, I've been very pleased with the staff and the experience so far, and obviously I think it's a great alternative to public school. And, the price is AMAZING!!! I cannot express how pleased I am with the nurturing, love and education my granddaughter received in the pre-k giraffes class. Miss Padilla and Ms Diaz are surely angels on earth. Both have a true calling to nurture children. My Farrah is now self disciplined, confident, and capable to join a new group of classmates in kindergarten. Great school!! My son lives going to school unlike when he was going to public school..He get personalized attention from since the class size is small. Above you he is getting grounded in biblical foundation which is an important fabric in a good moral up bringing. Teachers are friendly & the head teacher is super! My son is in his second year at NCS. We've been thrilled with the staff and his academic progress. The teachers all know him by name, and even the high school teachers will take a moment to stop and talk to him. Mr. Jackson and Pastor Yarbrough provide strong, godly leadership at the top.
