When you're scared to be at the vet, the scale is apparently the safe place!

This is our second visit to NVH and I feel like we have found our sweet babies' new spot. The tech was very sweet and Dr. Amend was great with my boy, Finley. Our normal vet is 40 minutes away and took amazing care of all our animals. It is fantastic to find a clinic that I feel comfortable with, 3 minutes from home!! Thank you Dr. Amend!!

Dr Pate was friendly and personable. We are new to the area and my cats got sick. She pet them while talking to me and explained what we would be doing to get them better. She prescribed them medicine and told me I only needed to come back if they didn't get better. The cost was reasonable for the services. If my animals need any other care while I'm in Sacramento this is where we will be going.

I chose this vet for my two miniature dachshunds (a 5yr old and a 16week puppy) when I moved to Sacramento. I have been very happy with their staff and advice. I enjoy working with Dr. Bennett and all the front desk staff and vet techs are knowledgeable and friendly.

10/10. Just moved here from LA + needed to take both of my boys in for minor issues + right off the bat, exceptional service. Both Vet(s) were gentle, well mannered, + great at explaining everything. And our Vet Tech, Ashley was beyond sweet, friendly, + warm. It was at that point where I decided this is where I'll be going for all of my boy's needs as far as care + wellness. Thank you to the entire staff of Natomas Veterinary Hospital. - Mister Boy + Turk

Ask the Community - Natomas Veterinary Hospital

Does NVH provide care for pocket pets (e.g. mice, rats, hamsters)?

Hi Paige S., thanks for reaching out! We don't see pocket pets, just dogs and cats.

Is this vet part of VCA?

No it isn't. Natomas Animal Medical Center is often confused with NVH but it is a separate facility. Animal medical center of Sacramento (consisting of a few locations) recently sold to VCA. NVH is still privately owned/operated.…

How much does it cost to go in for an initial exam/consultation?

I believe it is 74 dollars.

Hello! I would like to request a quote and availability for a dental cleaning of a chihuahua. What's the price range and what's does the procedure consist of?

Veterinarians usually can't give you that quote over the phone or vial email. Prices ranges really depend on what condition your pet is and what condition it's mouth is in. AND it also depends on what their policy is for dentals. At most…

My first visit was with my Boston Terrier, Chloe, and today I brought my Pug Sookie. The entire staff and veterinarians are incredibly kind, welcoming, and clear with their communication. The exam rooms have such a calm, relaxing atmosphere, and they take a low-stress approach to handling pets. During Chloe's first visit, they gave her treats while administering her vaccine, and she barely noticed the shot! She's usually very stressed at the vet, so seeing her stay so relaxed meant a lot to me. Both of my dogs have been much calmer at Sactown Vet. I also appreciated the thoughtful welcome gifts, including stickers, a magnet, and a folder with information about the clinic and our veterinarian. It's those little touches that make you feel truly welcomed. I highly recommend Sactown Vet to anyone looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable, and fear-free veterinary team.

I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don't understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes--for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them.

I've taken my young dog here to get his standard shots/exams, but this last week I took him in for a leg issue that turned out to need surgical intervention. Scary, and expensive news. But the team was so great. Got us in for a same day, after hours appointment, and scheduled his surgery within a week of calling in. Doctor Baum called me personally to explain what was happening, why he recommended the surgery, a video of how the surgery works, and a detailed estimate. Gave me time to process because it can be overwhelming mentally and financially. Staff all loved on my boy both visits - it's a good sign when your dog wags his tail entering the vets office. Day of the surgery doctor called me before and after surgery to check in, and reviewed the results with me. Private Equity firms are buying up practices and hospitals all over the country. I was a client at this veterinary hospital for over 30 years. My parents brought my childhood dog…read morehere, and as an adult I brought my own dog here. When Dr. Nabil Ibrahim owned the practice, I always felt my dog was cared for by someone who genuinely loved animals. Unfortunately, after the ownership changed in 2021, my experience changed. At nearly every appointment, I felt pressured to approve numerous tests and services. What started as a routine visit often became an estimate several times higher than expected. I understand that diagnostics are important, but the way they were presented made me feel like the focus had shifted from individualized care to selling additional services. The biggest concern was my dog's medical care. The first incident occurred after he received rabies, leptospirosis, and parvo vaccines during the same visit. He developed a severe reaction with swollen, red paws and a swollen muzzle, requiring an emergency veterinary visit after hours. I notified the clinic the following day, yet I continued receiving reminders for his leptospirosis booster despite informing them about the reaction and my decision to avoid non-required vaccines. Three years later, I returned only for his required rabies vaccine. Leptospirosis was offered again, and I declined. He was given rabies and parvo together, along with a preventive Benadryl injection. Once the Benadryl wore off, he experienced another vaccine reaction and again required emergency care. The emergency veterinarian told us that, given his history, future vaccines should be administered one at a time to help identify which vaccine was causing the reaction. The final experience was what convinced me to leave the practice. I brought my dog in for loose stools. I was told his diet was inconsistent and was advised to switch him to a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet. I agreed to the diet trial and stool test, planning to pursue additional testing if needed. Instead his stools progressed to severe watery diarrhea. When we returned for the follow-appointment, my husband waited outside for approximately 45 minutes in 100 degree weather with a brachycephalic dog. After reminding staff we were still waiting he was eventually brought inside but waited another 20 minutes before leaving without being seen. Before we could see another veterinarian my dog became severely dehydrated and required emergency treatment. The emergency hospital preformed blood work, treated him with IV fluids, prescribed metronidazole and Hills Biome diet. Thankfully he has been steadily improving on that treatment. I understand that medicine is not always straightforward, and not every treatment works for every patient. However, I believe communication, follow-up and individualized care are just as important as diagnostics. Unfortunately after these three experiences, I no longer feel that this practice is the right place for my dog.

I am disabled, on a fixed income, and my cat is my only family. I was charged $495. When I later obtained the medical records, I was shocked to find no physical exam notes whatsoever--no exam findings, no palpation, no dental assessment, no SOAP notes. Only lab results. I was charged for services that, based on what I observed when we got home, do not appear to have been performed, including a nail trim I specifically requested. There was also no visible evidence or documentation of blood draw or urine collection. Despite no explanation of my cat's condition or prognosis, I was handed an expensive dental estimate far beyond my ability to afford and then shown the door. I was humiliated at checkout after explaining I was poor and hoping I had enough money to pay. I paid partly by credit card and drained my debit account. I was even charged for a can of food that was presented as complimentary. This experience left me terrified and unsure whether my sick, elderly cat was actually examined. I have since filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. If you love your pet, request and carefully review your medical records. I trusted this clinic's long history. That trust was broken. Stay with your pet the entire appointment. Midtown Animal Hospital is operating on a cancelled premises license which is a violation of BPC 4853. This means that the Hospital is not authorized to legally operate or provide any veterinary services. It's been cancelled for 3 years. How can they still be open? Sacramento is corrupt and Pro Business. They must know the right people. They need to be held accountable.

There were no other treatment options- surgery or nothing, and I had already received an increase in my Care Credit limit specifically for this but didn't have enough after exam fees and diagnostics. We thought we were out of options. All Creatures SAVED HER LIFE! They were very fair and flexible as far as finances go and actually charged reasonable prices. Even more so, they offer a program called Cherry, which is basically a 'get now pay later' payment program. It's so simple and straightforward, and we literally got to choose exactly what the plan looks like. After running around with stress and anxiety, they were very quick with intake, and put her in surgery as soon as possible. The staff are SO ACCOMMODATING! The kindest and most understanding souls!!! We didn't want to leave her.. so we stayed. My fiancé requested to receive a call the second she comes out of surgery, and they let us come in immediately after even though it was the middle of the night. He stayed in the exam room and SLEPT on the floor with her while I slept in the car. Next morning she was supposed to be discharged but unfortunately had to stay all day to stabilize. And best believe we were there the entire time. They brought us refreshments and checked in on us regularly from 2am after surgery to 5pm when she was discharged. We bombarded the space the entire time and made home there as long as our girl was there. I know that's a little weird, but they did not care!! I scheduled a wellness appointment for my dog a week in advance. When I arrived, I was told it was being changed to an urgent-care walk-in appointment, and I was charged $98 instead of the $69 I was originally quoted. I explained that I had scheduled the appointment a week ago and that this was obviously not a walk-in. I was told that because of my dog's age and because I wanted his nose examined more closely, it qualified as urgent care. The veterinarian listened to my dog's chest with a stethoscope and immediately jumped to recommending an X-ray. He gave absolutely no explanation as to why it was needed, what he was looking for, or what other options there were. When I asked questions, he couldn't give me a clear answer or explain his reasoning. I had to bring up antibiotics myself because I had done my own research. Only then did he say that antibiotics could be prescribed. The whole interaction was rushed, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. The vet seemed incompetent at doing his job. The entire interaction lasted only a couple of minutes. He tried to leave, and I had to remind him that I had specifically booked a wellness exam because my dog is older and I wanted to make sure he was healthy. I expected a thorough examination and actual answers to my questions. Instead, I felt rushed, dismissed, and pressured toward an expensive diagnostic test. I have NEVER had a veterinary experience where I felt so uninformed and pressured. I want a veterinarian who takes the time to explain what is happening and discuss options, not someone who immediately recommends an expensive procedure without explanation. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling that the priority of this business was making money off of worried pet owners rather than providing actual thoughtful, transparent care.

We contacted several veterinary hospitals in the Sacramento area and chose this facility because it initially appeared to be one of the more affordable options. Over the phone, we were quoted $176 for emergency care, which we paid. We were then told that additional treatment, including wound cleaning, fluids, and a methadone injection for pain, could cost approximately $750. Because of our financial limitations, I applied for CareCredit and was approved for $800. Once we were placed in a room, however, additional charges began accumulating. We were eventually told that Kenzo needed laceration surgery because the wound was deeper than initially expected and that he should stay overnight. The total estimate increased to approximately $4,000-$5,000, which was completely outside of what we could afford. We spent approximately four to six hours discussing our options and repeatedly explained that we did not have the financial ability to cover those costs. We were able to pay approximately $228 for his medications. The hospital also had us apply for their charity program, but both my significant other and I were denied. During the process, I felt pressured by a veterinary assistant to make a payment and consider the cost despite repeatedly explaining that we simply could not afford the treatment. Eventually, Kenzo was discharged and sent home. Unfortunately, since the accident, Kenzo has been unable to urinate normally. The hospital contacted us twice today for follow-up and recommended that he return to be evaluated. I explained that before bringing him back, I wanted to know whether they could work with us financially or offer some type of payment plan. They said they would speak with the doctor and get back to me. Erica later called me back and informed me that they would be conducting a welfare check on Kenzo. I was told this does not mean that I am in trouble, but that they want to verify that Kenzo is okay, breathing normally, and receiving appropriate care. I had already explained during the follow-up call that Kenzo is eating well and breathing normally; his primary issue is that he is having difficulty urinating. I have since been able to schedule Kenzo an appointment with the SPCA at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow so that he can be evaluated. Erica stated that they will still conduct the welfare check to confirm the appointment and check on Kenzo's condition. While I understand the hospital may have concerns about his well-being, I found the welfare check unexpected given that I have been communicating with them, explaining his condition, and actively arranging follow-up care. My overall experience with this facility has been extremely disappointing. I felt that there was significant pressure to pay for treatments that I repeatedly explained I could not afford, and the costs were substantially higher than what was initially communicated to me. I understand that veterinary care can be expensive and that certain treatments may become necessary once an animal is examined. However, I believe pet owners should be given clear information about potential costs and reasonable options when they are experiencing financial hardship. Based on my personal experience, I would not return to this facility and would encourage other pet owners to carefully ask about costs, treatment options, and payment arrangements before proceeding.

Follow up: Appt: May 4th This was my first time at this VCA location. Gemma was the Vet Tech who took care of my baby, Penny. Penny has arthritis. Recently her back leg has caused her not to be able to stand for very long. She also developed east west feet. Which means the paws go outward. Gema was so gentle and compassionate to her. Penny was seen by Dr. Cavanaugh, one of the best Doctors I've ever had for my pets. I asked her a million questions because I was beside myself not knowing if I was going to have to put Penny down. My experience with previous doctors as they appear annoyed by all the questions and do not show any compassion. She was the complete opposite. She welcomed the questions. Thank God she prescribed me some medication, and we decided to see if it would help her with the pain. I felt like they were both my guardian angels. June 17th Penny woke up 2 nights ago and made a horrible sound as if she was in serious pain. First thing in the morning the next day, I called the office. I spoke to Julia, and Beloved through out the day. Both as sweet, kind and patient as they were when we came in previously. I also spoke to Alina and she was super nice. They both left Dr. Cavanaugh message ls regarding different medicines that we could try. Thank you so much Dr. Cavanaughfor following up with me after hours. That is rare. A typical Dr. who had a busy day and with other patients and all the updating charts etc would have called the next day. Beloved, you went above and beyond and thank you for allowing me to get my medications yesterday. The entire staff at this location are amazing individuals. FYI: Penny was able to get up to go to the bathroom and I almost passed out it! It was like a miracle right before my eyes.
