The entire staff and veterinarians are incredibly kind, welcoming, and clear with their communication. The exam rooms have such a calm, relaxing atmosphere, and they take a low-stress approach to handling pets. During Chloe's first visit, they gave her treats while administering her vaccine, and she barely noticed the shot! She's usually very stressed at the vet, so seeing her stay so relaxed meant a lot to me. Both of my dogs have been much calmer at Sactown Vet. I also appreciated the thoughtful welcome gifts, including stickers, a magnet, and a folder with information about the clinic and our veterinarian. Avoid SacTown Vet! They refused to vaccinate my dog after only a few minutes and still charged the full $91 visit fee despite providing no real care. I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don't understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes--for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them. read more

After calling multiple places, Sactown Vet provided the most helpful information and advice which ultimately made us feel comfortable bringing our dog here to get neutered. Another 5 star visit to Sactown Vet. Brought Jack in for goopy eye. Arrived a few minutes early, was checked in, Hack weighed then ushered to a room. A staff member asked medical info, reason for visit and confirmed our records were up to date. Maria Q popped in to say hello to us and encouraged him with a couple treats. She's always great with us! Next a young Asian tech came in reconfirmed the purpose of our visit, followed by Dr Cole coming in for exam. Thank you Dr. Thornton and all the techs for taking such good care of my Eevie girl! This practice is truly so accommodating to cats - quiet lobby, they put you in a room right away, even the set up of the feline exam room is geared toward kitties. When I came to get Eevie's bloodwork done last year we had a bit of a false alarm kidney scare, and Dr. Thornton showed so much compassion and clear direction. The appointments never feel rushed. We followed up a year later and no kidney issues, thank goodness! Dr. Thornton even reached out on her day off to tell me the good news as soon as she got the lab work in. Eevie went in for dental extractions recently and we had another great experience. They provided me with medication to give her prior to bringing her in to help calm her and prevent nausea. They even showed me the kennel she'd be kept in - a dark room separate from dogs with huge heated kennels. I appreciated their communication every step of the way and I could tell everyone that works there is super knowledgeable and committed to their mission of being fear free. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and like you can drop by or check in at any time after you drop your pet off for a procedure. I took a neighborhood stray mama cat and her kitten -- that weren't even mine -- to Sactown Vet because she had her kitten on our property and I wanted to make sure they were healthy. My regular vet couldn't take them, so this was the only non-emergency option. What a nightmare. They immediately pushed expensive blood panels on both cats without ever quoting me the price upfront. I only found out after the fact. They quoted $1,400 at first, and when I pushed back hard, they "negotiated" it down to $817. Still outrageous. I repeatedly told them this wasn't even my cat, but it made zero difference -- they were clearly out to milk me for every dollar. Over $800 later and they didn't even have the flea treatment in stock. Total cluster. The cats turned out to be completely fine. The mama just had a slight cold that she got over on her own. I never gave her the medications they pushed because my regular vet said it wasn't safe while she was still nursing. And to top it off, they never sent me the results of those panels -- for all I know they never even ran them. Bottom line: Avoid Sactown Vet like the plague. They're money-hungry and will nickel-and-dime you with tests you don't need and prices they don't disclose. Terrible experience. read more

When I first got my kitten she was really young and had a leaky squinty eye so I needed to find a vet ASAP and glad we found Sactown vet! - Office is bright and clean. - Communication has never been an issue EVER. They had to reschedule my first appointment and they were apologetic and were able to get me in the next day. They have always been so transparent about estimates when other places may decline giving a quote over the phone. They have always asked for confirmation from me the pet owner before doing any tests, or exams. Very easy to contact them via calls and or texts and their app is user friendly. - They have their own parking lot and plentiful parking on the street. -They really take their "fear free" title seriously and take so much pride in it. You will see it displayed when you walk in to check in. They take those steps to keep your pet calm with either waiting outside or in your car, warmed blanket for my kitten and those feliway diffusers in the room for the "cat room". They also are always asking if there are other dogs in the waiting room before letting another dog out of the office. If you don't hold those same standards I would go somewhere else. - So helpful and willing to give so much information. Kim who works in the front sent me information regarding car rides for my cats, the office sent tips on how to get my cat ready for the appointment. I just left Sactown Vet and was very impressed by the service my cat and I received. First off, we were about 8 minutes early. They immediately brought us to a room, which was so kind. I was able to let my cat roam around the room and get adjusted, which calmed his nerves. Five team members, including the doctor, interacted with us during our visit and they were all very kind and friendly. My favorite part, and the reason I'll be bringing him back for future visits, is that they kept him in the room with me the entire time. All of his vaccines, blood work and urine sample was done in the same spot. They gave him several churu's and whipped cream to distract him. He got home and was in a great mood and very calm. I took my beloved 18 year old chihuahua there for treatments a few times and had to unfortunately put her down with the assistance of SacTown vet. If you wonder why you're waiting so long for your pet to get done is because they are in the back messing around taking pictures and goofing off. I brought my pet in for vaccines and to get their anal glands expressed and I waited over 3 hours for something that should've took no longer than 1 hour. For the amount of staff they have it's crazy to think it takes that long. A fantastic vet. We see Dr. Thornton for my dog Penelope and Dr. Nunes for my kitties. I'll start with Dr. Nunes, she's absolutely incredible. So kind and gentle with the animals, and she always explains everything she is recommending for them and why. Her thoroughness helped identify a rare type of kidney stone in one of my cats that could have easily been missed. Dr. Thornton is amazing as well, and definitely the best vet I've ever worked with. She is very down to earth and easy to work with. She's wonderful with Penny, and really listens to my concerns and questions. All the vet techs are wonderful, so kind, professional, and thorough. You can tell everyone here loves their job and the animals they work with. I will say, wait times are long. If they tell me it will be 20 minutes, I usually plan on 45. This has been for every appointment and I've been going for a couple years now. HOWEVER, this does not deter me from keeping this vet. I recently took my puppy to them with a terrible foot infection (I still believe it was caused by my previous vet for numerous reasons) and fell in love with this place. When I took my dog to my initial vet for a broken toe, he came out with red blood throughout the whites of his eyes, as if he was "restrained" rather roughly. Not here! I was with him the entire time. This place is even cheaper than my longtime vet as well. I love that they have private rooms and do their best to do what they can in there. My tech tried to get my pups bandages off but he was having none of it. She had the patience of a saint. I, was over it. We tried lick mats, snacks...you name it. I finally said he could be sedated. It wasn't worth the battle and stress. Sedation was done in the room and they moved us back to the treatment area. They comfy up the metal tables and lightly cover their eyes with a towel. What took my vet 7+ hours to destroy took them about 3 hours to fix. For oir second follow up, Dr. increased his meds and no sedation was needed. We are heading soon to our 3rd follow up, his wound looks AMAZING . Now to get that darn broken toe healed, which they are also working on. We love the vets office. I'm all for being with my dogs when they need me most. Not to mention they do Happy Visits... you bring your pet in and they get treats from the staff, not services. Great past experience with this vet practice. My last appt there was cancelled because my vet was ill. My 2:30pm appt was rescheduled to 12:30 with a different vet. I was told that vet had a surgery scheduled at 1pm. I checked in at 12:30 and waited in an exam room until 1:15pm. My dog has severe anxiety and I needed a prescription refilled so I waited for someone to write a new one for her. I finally left over an hour later without being seen by the vet. Didn't get vaccinations or vet check up. It turns out that the prescription they gave me was for the wrong dosage too. Dr Nunes is great but the practice workflow for covering last minute changes is not good. Simply cancelling and rescheduling my appointment would have been fine but to reschedule, make me wait for a long time while the vet I was in surgery, not see me or call me back to rectify the situation is not respectful of my time. I will be switching to a new vet :( read more

Amazing vet. They are worth the price. The owner has built an excellent team from admin to tech. I brought in my two cats, one could not complete examination since she was hissing and not feeling safe. Mo got rescheduled the following week with the "happy camper" pill costing $20. Maven was able to complete examination, the staff was so caring and nice. He did hiss once and they proceeded, it's not until multiple hisses that they stop. When trying to take his blood, he kicked and hissed, the team stopped. I was offered to sedate him for $90 to complete the treatment. I accepted, Maven got put under so they could do the tests-- peaceful to my cat and peaceful to the team. The doctor knows her stuff and takes the time to explain everything. This is not the cheapest vet, but you get what you pay for in service, knowledge, and expertise. I was not concerned while Maven was put under and recovering in their facility under their care. They do offer a lot of tests and options that get expensive quick. They as professionals offer the most conservative care, but it is on you to decide what is cost appropriate for you and your pet. We moved to Sac this year and unfortunately had to say goodbye to our beloved vet back down in the Bay Area and find a new local vet. I brought my 2.5-year old corgi, Stitch, here to meet Dr. Thornton and the Sactown Vet team for his annual wellness exam and vaccinations. He's such a good boy but can be apprehensive of strangers, and he is dog-reactive & barks at every dog he hears/sees. Anyways, Dr. Thornton and her staff are clearly very passionate about their work, and they really take their claim to be "fear-free" quite seriously. They were all so incredibly patient with Stitch and he got plenty of treats and love throughout his appointment. Something I've also never seen before at a vet clinic - they used a topical lidocaine cream at Stitch's injections sites to help prevent pain and discomfort from the needles. Unfortunately, we could not complete his blood draw for his heartworm test as he was simply too over-stimulated by that point (after just receiving his series of 4 separate vaccines), as he freaked out and got nicked by the needle, so they provided instructions to bring him back in a few weeks for his flu vaccine booster shot and to give him Gabapentin/Trazadone prior to his appointment to calm his nerves, and they will complete the blood draw then. They do not push their patients' limits and they certainly treated Stitch with respect and care, as if he was one of their dogs. In general, it appears that at this practice, they will not proceed with examination/treatment if your pet appears too anxious and cannot be de-escalated, and instead they will recommend to bring your pet back on another day after being given some anti-anxiety meds. I know not everyone is comfortable with medicating their pets, so just be mindful of the possibility if you have an anxious or fearful pet. I scheduled another appointment for my other corgi, Lilo, since she will be due for her rabies vaccine and requires a consult for a dental cleaning, so we'll see how that goes in a few weeks! We are looking forward to continuing to build positive rapport with this practice. As for the business itself, their website is great and it was easy to create a portal and request an appointment. They were quick to contact me to confirm the appointment and retrieve the $89 deposit (which went towards the office visit costs). The deposit is also refundable if you cancel with 24 hours notice prior to the scheduled appt, if needed. They also send text reminders for your appointments. Prior to rendering any services, they will provide you with a comprehensive quote for full transparency and then obtain your consent to proceed. The only thing is I did find that their prices were a bit steeper than what I was used to paying at our previous vet in the Bay Area, as their office visit fee was $89 and some of the vaccines were also nearly double the cost of what I've paid in the past. However, they do not guilt you if you choose to decline a particular recommended service, so no need to feel obligated to agree to everything they recommend. The exam rooms were clean and well-equipped with snacks for the pup. Office is bright with windows to allow in natural light, and they are conveniently located in a small shared parking lot. :) read more

I was SO happy with the exceptional level of care we received at Sactown Vet. A bit of background, I have a 1yr old cat named Charlotte I adopted in January. I previously struggled to find a good vet near Downtown during the pandemic and was not looking forward to starting this process again. Sactown Vet was a new name in the game, the reviews looked good, and I liked that they had parking in Downtown, so I decided to give them a try. Sactown Vet is a Fear Free Certified Practice. I hadn't heard of that before and didn't know what to expect. I wanted a vet that would be gentle, but I didn't want one that would be so gentle that we couldn't get the care we needed. I was SO impressed with Sactown Vet's entire staff who were both gentle AND diligent in getting the care we needed. I arrived right at our appointment time and they had our room all ready. I mentioned Charlotte had meowed the whole way over and was distressed, so they put a blanket with pheromones over her carrier, which immediately relaxed her. The staff took a thorough history and then in came cat-whisperer Dr. Thornton. She let Charlotte out of her carrier to explore the room while she gave her treats and conducted her review (checked her ears, teeth and heartbeat). I decided to get blood, urine, and stool tests done, because she hadn't had a full work up since I adopted her. This required poking and prodding that I wasn't sure if we'd be able to what we needed... Charlotte wasn't hissing, but she was squirming and kicking so much I was waiting for them to tell me I'd need to come back another time. The staff were pros though and had me distract her with treats while two techs held her steady and another retrieved the samples. We were able to get the blood and urine needed to complete the labs! I am so, so grateful for the entire crew at Sactown Vet. Three days ago, I rescued a small female kitten (now named Juniper). Knowing there was a chance she could go into heat at any time, I wanted to have her checked out right away. Turns out, there were no offices that were able to see/spay her until late May. Panic ensues! Thankfully, my husband discovered Sactown Vet - when he called, they told him they were able to see her the very next morning! I brought Juniper in right when they opened, and all of the staff was so incredibly kind and welcoming. I've never been through the spay process with a pet before, and everyone went out of their way to put my mind at ease. It can be unnerving to leave your little love behind for the entire day while they undergo a procedure. I've brought my now 3 cats here and SacTown has been incredible at every step, including seeing us through 2 emergencies and the end of life of my heart kitty. I have also learned so much from the curated resources they provide (even before the very first visit with info on fear-free visits!). Dr. Cole is exceptional; she is so gentle, knowledgeable, candid and compassionate in discussing and providing care. In addition to Dr. Cole, Odalis, Heidi and Wendy saw me through my kitty's end of life and are all so gentle, skilled and supportive. Siana has guided me through a few emergencies now and is always responsive, informative and compassionate. And, Kim, Mia, Tyler and Sophie--and everyone I've interacted with--are amazing and provide compassionate care and exceptional customer service. We LOVE Sactown vet. Diane, Sophie, Gina, Kaylee, Presley, and Dr. Nunes provide amazing service. We only have had senior pit bulls, and with senior dogs you unfortunately see the vet often. So this is my second time here because my baby needed her vaccines, and my second visit was to come for a booster BOTH times they had me waiting over my appointment scheduled time (25 minutes), of course my baby is antsy and want to get out of her carrier which breaks my heart. So it was extremely frustrating that they had me waiting as it was very anxious driven. I wish they would have called me ahead of time to tell me to come in later or anything instead of having me wait like this.ON TOP OF THAT!!! they come in and say there is a fee after I've paid for everything at the first visit with no communication on there being any further billing. So overall just :/. The technician was an angel though, she was very understanding. The manager end up coming in and apologizing, which I appreciate but I think alot of this was easily avoidable. read more
