This is one of very few indepedently owned veterinary practices around. Unlike those owned by chains, they do not make you pay for unneeded tests or prescription foods. The Dr. offers lower and high cost options. The office sometimes offers bare bones service--for example, charges for copying paper records --but this is understandable given the difficulties of a small business in a poor area (where I live, so I know it well). Our dog Haru has received good compassionate care here.

Best-kept secret in downtown Sacramento. Fast appointments, quality care, full-service with in-house surgery when needed and a great staff. I take my two full-size dogs here regularly, as well as my cats over the years. No complaints about the care and the pricing is fair, certainly better than East Sac Animal Hospital. I'm a little shocked by the negative reviews, but on reading them it becomes pretty clear these are just people unhappy with their own lives, and using the internet to take it out on someone else. I recommend this place to all my friends when they ask if I know a good vet downtown.

Update: if you're able to obtain a written prescription from Dr.Kahbra you will NOT be able to have it filled by any online pharmacy, since it is not written on prescription paper, no watermark. I did recently find out Costco will fill the prescription that he provides on a plain sheet of paper with no questions asked. Thank you Costco and Fuck you Dr. Kahbra. Who claims to love your pets but will happily let them suffer if you won't succumb to his beyond overpriced......everything!

I was a bit skeptical and nervous after reading so many bad reviews about this clinic, but I was pleasantly surprised! I needed an appointment as soon as possible for my pup who started showing symptoms of a UTI and this was the only clinic I could find with an appointment available the next day. When we got to the vet we were greeted by the kind office staff. Filled out a bit of paperwork and then the tech took my dog to a room. Shortly after, Dr Khabra came to the front and let me know that they recommended starting her on the antibiotics as well as giving her an injection of antibiotics to speed up the process. The prices were extremely fair and I didn't feel pressured to pay for extra testing that was available and offered as another option. We will definitely be returning!

My first visit was with my Boston Terrier, Chloe, and today I brought my Pug Sookie. The entire staff and veterinarians are incredibly kind, welcoming, and clear with their communication. The exam rooms have such a calm, relaxing atmosphere, and they take a low-stress approach to handling pets. During Chloe's first visit, they gave her treats while administering her vaccine, and she barely noticed the shot! She's usually very stressed at the vet, so seeing her stay so relaxed meant a lot to me. Both of my dogs have been much calmer at Sactown Vet. I also appreciated the thoughtful welcome gifts, including stickers, a magnet, and a folder with information about the clinic and our veterinarian. It's those little touches that make you feel truly welcomed. I highly recommend Sactown Vet to anyone looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable, and fear-free veterinary team.

I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don't understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes--for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them.

I've taken my young dog here to get his standard shots/exams, but this last week I took him in for a leg issue that turned out to need surgical intervention. Scary, and expensive news. But the team was so great. Got us in for a same day, after hours appointment, and scheduled his surgery within a week of calling in. Doctor Baum called me personally to explain what was happening, why he recommended the surgery, a video of how the surgery works, and a detailed estimate. Gave me time to process because it can be overwhelming mentally and financially. Staff all loved on my boy both visits - it's a good sign when your dog wags his tail entering the vets office. Day of the surgery doctor called me before and after surgery to check in, and reviewed the results with me. Private Equity firms are buying up practices and hospitals all over the country. It's important to support local businesses who care about your furry family members not just about the bottom line. Thank you BVH team

I was a client at this veterinary hospital for over 30 years. My parents brought my childhood dog…read morehere, and as an adult I brought my own dog here. When Dr. Nabil Ibrahim owned the practice, I always felt my dog was cared for by someone who genuinely loved animals. Unfortunately, after the ownership changed in 2021, my experience changed. At nearly every appointment, I felt pressured to approve numerous tests and services. What started as a routine visit often became an estimate several times higher than expected. I understand that diagnostics are important, but the way they were presented made me feel like the focus had shifted from individualized care to selling additional services. The biggest concern was my dog's medical care. The first incident occurred after he received rabies, leptospirosis, and parvo vaccines during the same visit. He developed a severe reaction with swollen, red paws and a swollen muzzle, requiring an emergency veterinary visit after hours. I notified the clinic the following day, yet I continued receiving reminders for his leptospirosis booster despite informing them about the reaction and my decision to avoid non-required vaccines. Three years later, I returned only for his required rabies vaccine. Leptospirosis was offered again, and I declined. He was given rabies and parvo together, along with a preventive Benadryl injection. Once the Benadryl wore off, he experienced another vaccine reaction and again required emergency care. The emergency veterinarian told us that, given his history, future vaccines should be administered one at a time to help identify which vaccine was causing the reaction. The final experience was what convinced me to leave the practice. I brought my dog in for loose stools. I was told his diet was inconsistent and was advised to switch him to a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet. I agreed to the diet trial and stool test, planning to pursue additional testing if needed. Instead his stools progressed to severe watery diarrhea. When we returned for the follow-appointment, my husband waited outside for approximately 45 minutes in 100 degree weather with a brachycephalic dog. After reminding staff we were still waiting he was eventually brought inside but waited another 20 minutes before leaving without being seen. Before we could see another veterinarian my dog became severely dehydrated and required emergency treatment. The emergency hospital preformed blood work, treated him with IV fluids, prescribed metronidazole and Hills Biome diet. Thankfully he has been steadily improving on that treatment. I understand that medicine is not always straightforward, and not every treatment works for every patient. However, I believe communication, follow-up and individualized care are just as important as diagnostics. Unfortunately after these three experiences, I no longer feel that this practice is the right place for my dog.

I am disabled, on a fixed income, and my cat is my only family. I was charged $495. When I later obtained the medical records, I was shocked to find no physical exam notes whatsoever--no exam findings, no palpation, no dental assessment, no SOAP notes. Only lab results. I was charged for services that, based on what I observed when we got home, do not appear to have been performed, including a nail trim I specifically requested. There was also no visible evidence or documentation of blood draw or urine collection. Despite no explanation of my cat's condition or prognosis, I was handed an expensive dental estimate far beyond my ability to afford and then shown the door. I was humiliated at checkout after explaining I was poor and hoping I had enough money to pay. I paid partly by credit card and drained my debit account. I was even charged for a can of food that was presented as complimentary. This experience left me terrified and unsure whether my sick, elderly cat was actually examined. I have since filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. If you love your pet, request and carefully review your medical records. I trusted this clinic's long history. That trust was broken. Stay with your pet the entire appointment. Midtown Animal Hospital is operating on a cancelled premises license which is a violation of BPC 4853. This means that the Hospital is not authorized to legally operate or provide any veterinary services. It's been cancelled for 3 years. How can they still be open? Sacramento is corrupt and Pro Business. They must know the right people. They need to be held accountable.

I have taken my cats there when they needed regular appointments for many years, as well as emergency care and they used to be good. I do expect to wait when you take them in for emergency care because there are other patients ahead of you, some more critical. I get it. So when I needed to take my cat in because she was not eating or drinking for the past few days, and her regular vet said to take her to an emergency vet, I called Mueller and was put on the "Virtual Waitlist." This was new to me, they had not had this when I had visited in the past and sounded like a great option since she was not critical, we could wait at home until they had time to see her that day. This is a lot less stressful for her and me. We were placed on the Virtual Waitlist at 11 am. At 5 pm I was sent a text that said they were ready for us and to come into the hospital. So I rushed down there and checked her in at 5:41 pm. We sat in the lobby waiting until 10:45 pm before we got into an exam room and saw a doctor. And then I was told that they could not help us and that they would see if there are other emergency vets in the area that could hospitalize my cat and provide an ultrasound the next day. I sat in the exam room for more than an hour before the Dr came back and let me know that she had found 1 place that we could possibly get into that night. I do appreciate her finding another ER hospital that was very helpful. She was doing the best she could. But I spent $178 and waited 6 hours to just go somewhere else. Which we did at midnight-I drove up to an ER Vet in Roseville. So my poor sick cat had to be in a carrier for 6 hours at Mueller and then the 45-minute drive and then 3 hours at the new ER vet. This was beyond stressful for her and me. From what I experienced, the "Virtual Waitlist" is not for their patients- it is for them to control how many people are coming in at one time and waiting in their lobby. You will still wait 5-8 hours to see a doctor after you arrive and check-in with reception. I wish they would communicate that fact more clearly. I don't think I will be using their services again after this nightmare.
