Follow up to my earlier review of Natural Grocers. Since it's been seven years, I figured a reconsideration was in order. I stopped by the other day, and it was almost like everything was in a time capsule. It felt and looked exactly the same. Nothing looked updated or different, and after a thorough review of the aisles, they seem to have the same standard health food store type items. Definitely some new brands, but mostly the same offerings. One thing I'm seeing a lot more of these days for the health conscious is a focus on added protein and or fiber. I specifically sought out high fiber and high protein, products, and there weren't that many to be honest. A lot of companies are adding one or both of these to their standard products or creating new products to fit this trend, but there wasn't a lot at natural grocers to fit this category. The staff was friendly as usual. I was asked as I was browsing if I needed any help finding anything, and when it was clear that there were a couple of us waiting in line for the one checkout lane they had open, they opened a second one. Very friendly employees, and my interactions with them were pleasant. The interior could use a little refresh. Nothing looked dirty, but the store does look a little dated. I'm not sure what it is about health food stores or sections, but they all tend to smell the same. Not a bad smell, but kind of earthy? I'm not sure anything could be done about that. It would be nice to have a self checkout option. They still only have traditional checkout aisles. read more

I've been here several times, and always have a great experience. The store kept very clean, and well stocked. Prices are above average, so I don't get many things, but many of their store brand products are cheaper than other stores! I always get their store brand nuts here, as they are even cheaper than Walmart, and with plenty of options on cut. The service is always great as well! They are very friendly and helpful. read more

My little neighborhood haven!!! My goodness, I'm so grateful for natural grocers and the confidence I can have in almost any product I buy. Unfortunately, a lot of the produce and packaged goods are way too pricey for me, however there are loads of goods you can find that are actually cheaper than other places and WAY better quality. Tips : this is the best place to buy bulk spices, nuts, dried fruit, and flours that are non - GMO or organic for a suuupper cheap price. I don't go anywhere else for these because I can buy so much for so dang cheap. If you haven't considered Natural grocers for the things listed above, go go go! Another great deal we use a lot of is high quality free range eggs for $1.99 a dozen if you're a NG member (which is free). Keep a lookout for their weekly discount prices as you can get a ton for low cost! Another tip is looking in their medicinal aisles at their herbal tinctures - super cheap and really effective! read more

Think of Natural Grocers as Whole Food's little cousin. They're very similar in what they carry and their selection. NG can be a lot cheaper on certain items and since WF quit their bulk bins they have a larger selection of more bulk items at cheaper prices. They don't have the same generic brand variety as WF does obviously though. The produce is hit or miss. Some things, like celery, is A LOT cheaper here. Some things, like berries, cost a small fortune. It's all organic if that matters to you. I mostly come here for the pasture raised eggs that I get on sale with my loyalty card thing. Their anniversary was a few days ago also and I stocked up on Dr. Bronners for half off and tons of other stuff. I saved a few hundred dollars. The cashiers are hit or miss. They're all slow except one guy. Be prepared to be patient. The parking is also weird since it's a shared space, but even when busy you shouldn't have to walk far. My biggest piece of advice is check the expiry dates on food. Even though they can be arbitrary for most items, I still don't want to buy expired food and I've found things that were 8-12 months expired still on the shelf and yes I did give it to someone. read more

I decided to go here instead of big grocery chain. I've been to another location in Omaha, but it was a first at this one. I like how the store is organized but, it seems kind of small. That may be why the produce department seems very limited. I was looking for bagged salad kits but could only find romaine. The kombucha selection is huge, which I really appreciated. The pet section was also limited, but with the overall small size of the store, it's no surprise. The frozen food and refrigerator cases are well stocked and the bulk food is also well represented. The staff is very good about noticing when the checkout line gets backed up so they bring out another cashier. It's also very clean. I was able to find most of the items on my list and check out in about 15 minutes. Pretty fast, I think. Don't forget to bring your own bags, but if you do, no worries. They will pack your items in a cardboard box --good way to reuse those boxes the merch comes packed in. read more

I drive by this market regularly and today was the very first time I decided to stop by. Parking is available but limited. They do have additional parking around Jimmy John's, if needed. There was only limited staff working and I thought this store was a smaller version of Whole Foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables are available. Organic choices and specialized goods give you variety not offered at regular grocery stores in the area. The staff were friendly and asked if any assistance was needed. Prices are a bit higher than conventional stores but the advantages are the organic choices and specialty foods offered there. The good news is that the store is clean and not cluttered. read more

I used to love this place, but the people that work here are so unfriendly. It's too bad, they have a good selection of natural products. I like that they have a members program where you get members pricing and they often have markdown prices on produce. But I'm getting annoyed because they keep ringing me up wrong. This is the second time this month they've charged me extra. This time I was charged 2x when I only got 1 and last time I got 2 bars but was charged for 3. They should get some self checkout kiosks. read more

Quite pleased with my most recent visit. Not sure if there is a new manager here since my last review, or what the case is, but the difference is like night and day. I decided to stop in the other day to pick up a few things. The staff was friendly and engaging, and the lady I assume was the manager was very helpful. While the new natural grocery store in town in not convenient to my home/work location, the uber-West location is perfect for folks who cringe at the thought of driving east of 120th Street to get the natural food needs. Small. Friendly. Decent prices. You won't find 18 varieties of natural, organic peanut butters, but who really needs that option? No fancy dessert cases. No in-house bakery section. No giant cheese island or olive bar. It's a nice size market with a neighborhood grocery store vibe that caters to those of us who like our foods a bit less processed. A little less than half the store is packed with supplements, vitamins and health/beauty items. No bags on checkout - so bring your own, buy one of theirs or pull a box from the bin of cardboard boxes to cart your groceries home. read more

I really love that they have this store now in Omaha! It is difficult to find organic groceries in the large grocery stores. They just don't have a large selection of them. So, once natural grocers opened here, it became my go to grocery store! Everything in this store is organic so not only will I have more fruits and vegetables to choose from, but I also find that my shopping trip is less time consuming because I just go in and grab what I need! I love this little neighborhood grocery store. I'm just learning how to make mindful choices in the foods I eat. The staff is so very helpful with ALL my questions. Little by little I'm learning more and more. They carry lots of neat products for 'do it yourself' types of folks. Lots of interesting magazines, health and beauty products, a variety of whole foods, spices, teas, gluten free, organic, certified organics, supplements, the list goes on and on. All that in a tiny little store that doesn't take long to navigate. They seem to truly care about their mission and I appreciate that very much. read more

The West O location is laid out a bit differently than the Dodge location as well as missing some items but is still THE stop for eggs (either location), GF/Paleo/Low Carb salad dressings, healthy snack options and a wonderful bulk selection of nuts, spices, rices and other healthy options. read more

I needed a few things ( i'm organic and use organic products mostly) and when I noticed their sign when I was driving down center from 178th and the Target/Five Spice Natural Grocers had sent me a mailer welcoming me to the neighborhood. it reminded me that they were "out there" too. frustrating my GPS totally I decided to check them out. nice friendly clean store nice selection ( I needed facial care products) easy to find but I was asked if I needed help finding something right as I walked in. nice parking lot too. they had multiple selections on par pricing to the "other" markets. I will definitely keep them in mind for anything I may need if I am in that area. read more

Wonderful natural foods shop in Omaha. Great selection of vegan foods. I found my favorite brand of sauerkraut and hummus here.

Prices are much better than Whole Foods (I purchased 30 pieces of gum at WF that was $1 more expensive than I saw here today). Love the smaller store & the huge selection of beauty products. read more

This place is so, so great. Everyone is actually helpful, they have a great selection, it's cheaper than that humongous corporate health food store (you know the one), and while they don't have an actual bulk food section, they have simple, "generic" bagged-up versions of what you would get in bulk. For example, nutritional yeast in a bag there is about half the cost of what it is elsewhere in a can. Half! The other thing I like is that it's smaller and easier to navigate. No florist, no deli, but who cares? I'm so glad to have an alternate place to get the vegan, vegetarian, and organic foods I need. read more

Let's start off by saying I'd rate the content of the store a solid 4+. However, this deserved a 3 simply because staff was not personable at all. Last evening was my first visit and was checking out what they carry, plus had a few questions to ask. I felt like they were not interested nor really wanted to help. I grew up in a household where my mother was very conscious of the foods we consumed. Everything we ate was all natural, non- GMO, organic, etc. Naturally, as an adult, I still prefer to eat these types of foods and the health-conscious legacy my mother created for her children lives on. There is nothing better than biting into a big juicy apple knowing that it is not contaminated with harmful chemicals or eating a steak from a cow that you know has not been poked and prodded with syringes full of growth hormones. I grew up in a small Texas town- I'm sure you know the saying, "Everything is bigger in Texas". This saying holds true for everything from each chemically altered carrot that is pulled out of the ground to every cow that pumped full of hormones to ensure that every steak that is served across the state is the biggest and the juiciest cut of meat you have ever laid your eyes on. While a great state, it was difficult to find a one-stop shop for "everything natural". When I found out I was re-locating to Omaha, I knew it would take some re-adjusting ( GO LONGHORNS :P ), but finding out that there was a Natural Grocers a mere 2 miles from my house eased that blow. I was excited to see what NG was all about, as I had heard a few rumblings while in Texas about the natural foods chain, but lived too far to make the gaunt on a regular basis. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Let me walk you through the torment so you don't have to endure such an experience yourself: After arriving at the store on 176th and Center (my experiences are only regarding this store) and scoring a parking spot front and center, I was sure that NG and I were meant to be. With my own recyclable bag in hand, I practically ran to the front and through the automatic doors. I expected to see rays of light and hear angels singing as if I was walking right into heaven, but instead I was greeted by dingy lighting and two employees who were standing around the check-out area talking extremely loud as if they were in a packed bar on a Friday night, hardly taking the time to glance up, let alone acknowledge my presence at all! Customer service is HUGE for me, as I have taken on various jobs in the service industry throughout the years. I brushed off the encounter and made my way to the beauty section, still with high hopes for my experience. An older woman with long hair and glasses was standing in the corner fumbling around with the different products, clearly trying to look busy after she caught sight of me. With the most half- assed smile I have ever seen she said, "Can I help you?". I felt like I was a nuisance and that she couldn't have more displeased that I was in HER corner of the store. What was even more shocking was that her name tag stated she was the manager for that department! I could barely keep my mouth from dropping! STRIKE TWO. I quickly made my way out of that department feeling uncomfortable and almost slipping on some type of oil or shampoo, but willing to give it one last shot. A couple of things I noted while browsing: 1) Puddles of water in various places throughout the store, one WITHOUT A WET FLOOR SIGN. If that's not a liability, I don't know what is. At this point, I was secretly wishing I would slip and fall, not that anyone would care, but maybe it would bring some attention to this poor, looked over, red-headed stepchild of a store. 2) Dust bunnies EVERYWHERE! GROSS! 3) Shelves upon shelves of products that were out of stock. 4) MEAT JUICE ON THE REFRIGERATOR SHELVES!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!! DISGUSTING!!!! Just when I thought I couldn't take any more, a tall-thin, dark haired male worker stopped me to ask me if I needed help finding anything. I took a deep sigh of relief. FINALLY someone had taken notice of me, but I would soon realize I wish he wouldn't have. I asked him to help me find an item and he led the way. After we arrived at the item I was looking for, he seemed to linger a little longer than a grocery store employee typically would after helping a customer find an item. I politely told him thank you but he continued to stay close-by. He appeared to the "stocking an item" or something of that nature. I could feel him looking in my direction with short breaks each time I would glance up. I felt SO INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE!! What was probably 20 seconds, felt like 20 minutes. I couldn't take it anymore. That was it. I quickly took my empty basket, which I thought would be billowing over with items by now, and ran out, just as swiftly as I ran in, past the employees who WERE STILL CHATTING UP FRONT AND DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ME ONCE AGAIN! My boyfriend and I have been visiting this Natural Grocers for over a year now ever since moving to Elkhorn. We try to eat organic produce as much as possible and prefer to eat grass-fed meats, so we were happy to know that a Natural Grocers was by us. We had frequently visited the one in downtown Omaha when we lived there, so we thought this store would be just as good as that one. Over time, though, our enthusiasm with this store faded, and now, my boyfriend and I almost purely visit Whole Foods for our grocery shops. To begin with, this store is hardly a grocery store to me - it is more like a snack stop. Aisle upon aisle is dedicated to chips, crackers, cookies, or other treats. Half of their coolers are full of ice cream, and they have an entire side of one of their aisles (which are limited to start with) dedicated to chips alone. If you eat a lot of this stuff, this might be great to you, but it is actually very restricting (in our opinion) and almost forces you to eat junk because that's primarily what they sell. They stopped carrying a lot of the actual food items we wanted and instead we noticed a lot of new cookie brands. Secondly, because they are a smaller store, they have trouble with stock. As I just said, they don't really have a lot of items in stock anymore that we used to buy very frequently. They weren't obscure or anything - they just don't have them. We frequently would ask where the items were and a worker would tell us that the supplier was having trouble or the truck hadn't come in yet, but this problem persisted for weeks, so we aren't sure what was happening there. We buy our meats here, such as chicken, and there was a 5-day span or so where they just didn't have practically their entire meat section stocked. It was nearly empty, again because 'the truck hadn't come yet'. Branching off of this issue, a lot of what they sell here is not the highest quality. Their organic produce hardly ever looks good and even if it looks good in the store, it takes it about a day to get moldy or old at home. It is like a weird magic trick because the produce they sell here goes bad FAST. In our opinion, the prices here are not the best, so it is very disappointing to spend a lot of money for a grocery shop only to have a lot of it hardly last. This has also happened with other items they sell, such as Bobo bars. We opened them up and they were moldy, right after buying them from the store. Someone else mentioned the staff here and I just want to touch on that quickly as well. My boyfriend and I used to be vegan but we both encountered severe health problems (yes, we were doing it right), but it is important that you know that we highly respect vegan individuals. We both switched back to eating meat and, of course, started buying it at Natural Grocers. One of the cashiers at this store, every time she would scan through one of our meat items, would literally throw it to the side. I'm not joking, she would throw the meat and then nicely set down anything that wasn't meat. We frequently visit this store and it has become very evident to us that this given cashier is vegan, probably the reason for the meat throwing. I fully respect everyone's choices in life but I do not think professionalism should be sacrificed in any business situation. A lot of the cashiers here come off as very immature or judgmental, which really isn't what you want to encounter when you're just trying to get your groceries for the week. My final point here is that I don't know why everyone picks on Whole Foods. Their prices are better. My boyfriend and I have spent many a trip comparing prices at both Natural Grocers and Whole Foods and we get FAR more for our money at Whole Foods. When we go to Natural Grocers, it feels like we buy 5 items and it somehow added up to $120. At Whole Foods, our cart is absolutely full and it is not much higher in price than the few items we get at Natural Grocers. Especially if you like any of the items on sale at Whole Foods and avoid fancy processed items, which aren't that great anyway, Whole Foods is absolutely a better deal. The only thing I would still recommend getting from Natural Grocers is meat because they do have 100% grass fed, pasture raised, cage free items and that is harder to find at Whole Foods. Otherwise, Whole Foods is better, cleaner, more pleasant, they don't play music that puts you in the twilight zone like Natural Grocers does, and you can genuinely save money. Sure, it is a longer drive, but it is worth it to get produce that lasts and enjoy lower prices from a staff that seems far more interested in their job than those at Natural Grocers. read more

My go-to place for all that is healthy. In our house organic and non-GMO are a priority and gluten-free is a medical necessity. They have a good variety of choices and the staff is always helpful. A few of their items can be found at big box supermarkets for a little less money but I find it is worth it to pay a little more here and there for this stores commitment to stocking a full line of healthy products. read more
