It's actually a very appropriate place for the park and his statue. The park is located along Esplanaden in front of St. Alban Church which has been historically known as the "English Church." It's a perfect setting! We stopped by on our way to see the Gefion Fountain and the Little Mermaid. There are benches near the Museum of Danish Resistance where you can sit and relax, or grab a bite to eat at the concession and/or hot dog stand. You'll also find the Valkyrie and Our Fallen sculptures and many other memorials at Churchill Park. One could spend a whole morning or afternoon exploring this part of the city. It's so worth a visit.

Had we done our research, we might have realized we were walking along the edge of Kastellet, a super cool star-shaped fortress. Instead, we just wandered through the park, getting impressed by the gorgeous greenery, the well kept trails, the ducks and water, the statues and fountains. There was some kind of crazily attractive church in there, too. Just an ongoing feast of lovely things that made the walk more memorable than the actual Little Mermaid. We don't have parks like Churchillparken where I live. If we did, I might get outside more often. This was a splendid place, peaceful and full of beautiful sights, and it didn't even seem like a particular tourist destination. I'm glad we stumbled on it while we were in town. You Copenhageners sure are lucky.

It's a place where you can get away from the noisiness of the city. It's actually quite peaceful here. We stayed at the NH Collection Hotel overlooking the harbor. We very much enjoyed our daily walks around Christianshavn. The spiral staircase of the Church of Our Saviour is always a cool sight to see. Each bridge has its own personality. The canals are filled with houseboats, swans, geese, and ducks. You'll see many of the colorfully painted historic houses all around the canals. There are also many wonderful restaurants, cafés, wine bars, and bakeries scattered around the islands. It's pretty much within walking distance to many attractions in Copenhagen. The pedestrian and bike friendly bridges make it so easy to get to the other side of the harbor for sight-seeing. We saw various modes of transportation in this area. There are water bus stations along the Christianshavn side of the harbor that can get you to other parts of Copenhagen as well. The subway station is also conveniently located just past the Børnehus Bridge. We found it to be the perfect location for our pre-cruise stay. I honestly can't wait to revisit this area in the future. We loved it!

It's a small town of over 1,000 people, who value their privacy. You will find the Copenhagen Opera House here. This 16th century town square sports impressive brick architecture, colorful houses dating from the 1600-1800's, and a peaceful courtyard. Known for its restaurants and nightlife, it is abundant with outdoor terraces. We hear it is very popular in the summertime and even though we were here on a weekday in the winter, the restaurants and bars were packed. Even with it raining there were couples strolling down the cobbled streets via lamplight or packing into the delicious smelling restaurants. It was definitely fun to see in the winter but we would love to return to enjoy it in the summertime.

The day itself was my favorite kind of day, a gentle rainy one that most would consider unpleasant or dreary. Not me. I purposely don't take summer vacations or vacations to hot places. My goal for the first part of my day was to visit the Malmö Museum (Museer in Swedish) and Castle (Malmöhus Slott), but I also made time to really explore the Kungsparken, or King's Park, as well. This was really an unavoidable thing anyway as I had planned to continue to follow the canal into town to meet my friend after work for dinner, shopping, and goofing off. I'm big on the free outdoors when I travel, you can tell. I enjoyed the little clusters of flowers most, but also the canopy of different tree species and the series of trails, bridges and passageways along the canal, which borders one end of the King's Park. Weeping Willows create shade and privacy. I found the park very romantic! The many benches along the trail would have been perfect for a rest, but alas in the rain that was not an option. It's an 8 plus acre park, and a complete circle would be great exercise. The route I took through altogether was 2 miles of walking. If you're headed to the castle fortress and museum anyway, you can't miss it. Note: The Yelp listing also says "Zoo," but if there is one in here I didn't find it...

What can I say about Nyhavn that hasn't already been said? It's iconic! You can't visit Copenhagen…read morewithout seeing it. It's just as beautiful and scenic as seen in famous photographs and paintings. It survived the Great Fire that destroyed most of Copenhagen. A famous Danish fairytale writer lived in not 1, but 3 of these houses on the waterfront. That's right! There are wall plates designating the buildings that Hans Christian Andersen lived in along Nyhavn. So, why 4 stars? It's a huge tourist attraction! That means it's super crowded with many travelers taking canal and Inner Harbour cruise tours. It's lined with cafés and restaurants on both sides of the canal. All of which look amazing yet are pricier than the ones you see tucked away from all this hype. The outdoor tables at these restaurants are all taken along the canal. There's certainly lots of people watching going on here. We were told to be aware of pickpocket activities. To be honest, it's just like any other crowded tourist spot. Don't let that discourage you. There's a hot dog stand here that appears to be very popular. Just know that there are many throughout the city that are just as good and with better seating. With all that said, it was still an amazing sight to see. It's probably best to give yourself more time to browse through everything that this area has to offer. It's a fun & happening place to be. Go there in the early morning hours for a calmer experience. You'll get better picture opportunities of the brightly painted buildings with the reflections off the water.

The art museum wasn't the greatest or my favorite. But I always love checking them out. The natural history portion on the other hand was really cool, even as a grown up. Lots of interesting specimens and displays, fun interactive areas, lots of information. Add to those things the castle...and it really can't be beat. Inexpensive with something for everyone. If you are in Malmo, even for just a day, stopping at these museums should be high on your list.
