I do not think that many people go to the DMV thinking they will have a pleasant experience, however, this location proved all of that wrong. They are kind of hidden back in a shopping center next to a crossfit gym and a tattoo shop. It is smaller and at the moment only allows 6 customers inside at a time but they are quick with getting to everyone. The lady who helped me with my registration was super kind, helpful, and quick. I was nervous I would be in there for 30 minutes but it took 5 minutes total. They also had three people working, which I feel is more than some grocery stores have at checkouts. Overall, great experience for a small town DMV. read more

DMV's get a bad rap' and reputation, but I honestly don't dread coming here. The staff are very organized, professional, and courteous. The only issue I would pose is not on them, rather the state policy on waiver of taxes for active-duty military. It doesn't make sense for me to have to register my vehicle and not get the sticker the same visit. Having to email/verify military service and come back later to pick up my license plate sticker does not make good sense. read more

Didn't get a chance to appreciate their highly rated customer service because after a nearly 40 mile round trip to pick up my tag I was greeted by an empty office and a small sign on the door that said the Hampstead branch closed the end of last month. No mention on the website and when brought up on the map program it clearly says open 9-5. No problem, it's only time and money pissed away based on inaccurate information. Tried to call but you just get a busy signal. No message about the branch being closed. How about an update!! read more

I grew up in Ny and then moved to Boston for 13 years. We moved to North Carolina a little over a month ago. We made a venture to the DMV in Wilmington yesterday to transfer our licenses and registration over. It is a known fact in the North that employees of the DMV are miserable and the wait time could be hours . What we experienced was a shear delight. We went to the info counter and were greeted with a smile . We sat and waited less then 5 minutes . I was called to a booth where a delightful woman named Linda greeted me , conducted the business at hand and then, after seeing my address, excused herself and came back to my dude if the counter with a decadent box of croissant bakery she said was near our home , offered me one with a napkin and wrote down the address! Judy was amazing! The day before I waited in line for 2 hours in Jacksonville, NC. Had to leave to pick up my child from school. My number still wasn't called. I was 9th in line at 9:00am. Worst DMV I have ever been to. If you have plans to get more than just the the DMV done in one day, go ahead and cancel them because we were there for 3 hours. They have 6 stalls to assist people, and were only utilizing 2 because the rest were on lunch for 3 hours. Rude Staff. read more

It is right across from Miss Carla's oldies and goodies. If You pass CVS you have to turn around. When it opened and we walked in, there were 3 DMV workers ready and at their windows. We arrived 5 minutes before it opened at 9AM. Already had a wait of about 6 people. Once they opened the doors, they got through that line so quick. They are friendly, welcoming and very resourceful with information. I will come here for all license plate and registration needs. More people kept coming in and Everyone was out in less then 30 minutes. I'm sure if I went to the Jacksonville DMV. I would still be waiting and have someone give us the run around. read more
