Late Tuesday, just before our flight, we learned that the required CT scan had not been completed as prescribed. Without it, Dr. Lutton could not proceed. His schedule was booked solid, and we feared the worst. But we reached out to his office, explained the urgency, and hoped for a miracle. Enter Valerie, Dr. Lutton's surgical coordinator--and the unsung hero of this story. Valerie and the entire team at Washington Circle Orthopedics sprang into action. While we were boarding our flight Wednesday morning, we received word that they had secured a CT scan appointment in DC the day before surgery. Valerie instructed us to drop off the CD immediately after the scan so Dr. Lutton could personally review and complete the templating between his other surgeries. The coordination, compassion, and sheer determination of this team were awe-inspiring. The surgery went forward as scheduled, without a hitch. Dr. Lutton's skill and precision were matched only by the warmth and professionalism of his staff. Today, my mother is recovering beautifully, free from the constant pain that had plagued her for years. She calls it the best birthday gift she could have hoped for. This wasn't our first experience with Dr. Lutton's brilliance. Three and a half years ago, he performed a reverse shoulder replacement on my right shoulder and my mother's left shoulder. Both procedures were flawless, and the outcomes life-changing. That history made it all the more important for us to return to him--and he and his team delivered once again. If I off handedly mention something about my hearing, he'll ask if I think I need a hearing exam. I feel like when I converse with him he is listening and looking for clues as to my health. I never had a real problem with him, but I had been a huge fan of my previous doctor so he was starting in a tough position. He's attentive, knowledgeable and relatively engaged in the process. However, the practice is completely overextended and you wait forever to get seen. The admin and nursing staffs do not communicate very well and you're often waiting. As a final bonus, they never alerted me to the fact that they stopped taking my insurance, even after I had made and appointment. They waited until I walked the 10 blocks from my office on a 95 degree day to let me know that little tidbit. In the end, I recommend the doctor, but not the practice.

I had been experiencing back pain and was on the break of not knowing what to do. After my visit with Dr. Ghorbani I realized I was great hands. I was not able to do simple things as put my shoes on or get out of the bed without being in excruciating pain. At times I could not walk without pain. Dr. Ghorbani suggested for me to get an Epidural Steroid Injection. I was little nervous and I was told by people that it would not work. Well Dr Ghorbani made me a believer, he performed the surgery on me and the next day I was able to get out of the bed with no pain, If you are looking for a doctor that is very knowledgeable and cares about his patients then come to APMI to be healed. My appointment ran on time, Dr Ghorbani was really knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable throughout the appointment! I would highly recommend APMI. It's a one stop shop for therapy, pain management and orthopedic services. He has an amazing staff, they all have great customer service and always make you feel welcome. Hands-down one of the best medical doctors I have seen in my 42 years of life! his demeanor and bed-side manner is calm, positive, thorough, attentive, flexible, and personal. We also discussed vitamin supplements to address some life phase events and he made recommendations as to what I need. I find that doctors usually are distracted or rushed when visiting their patients, but not with Dr. Ghorbani . I had the sense that this doctor REALLY cared about my whole being. I could tell that Dr. Ghorbani has a well-rounded medical background and approaches his care with a wealth of extensive research and perspective for his clients issues or concerns. That is why I give him 5 stars! I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone that values their health and wants a doctor with extensive knowledge about health.

Avoid if at all possible…read more I had never seen a doctor take a female patient by the knee - where the kneecap was visibly out of place and leg unable to hinge - proceed to JIGGLE the entire leg disregarding patient extreme discomfort and say "(paraphrasing) huh, this should bend. You should just bend it. Come on now." (He proceeded to drop the leg, as a test.) Or heard of one using similarly rough to a woman with spine issues. Is this his norm? Both are black women who required extensive surgeries/care, which were delayed by his poor recognition of clear issues and lack of ...something. There are many other doctors to use, don't let your insurance or time constraints make you feel forced to utilize his services. You will regret it. Avoid if at all possible.

Don't get faulked by Dr. Faulks and his residents!…read more I went into the GW Hospital ER with a broken tibia and fibula. On the first visit, I apparently didn't meet with any orthopedics and recieved the worst fiberglass splint. The guy who put it on went all the way up above my knee, and he used 6 ace bandages and really stretched them really tight. I was discharged and just hours later my entire leg was in excrutiating pain. I returned to the ER, 2nd visit, 2nd copay, 2nd time they get to bill my insurance and I have to pay a $150 copay. Enter the orthopedic residents. They removed the old splint and admitted it was the wrong type and too tight. They left my leg unsplinted for a while, and the pain went away on its own, but it didn't happen quickly. They put on a new plaster splint that fit great, and they said if I stayed overnight as an inpatient, Dr. Faulks could operate the next day. I stayed the night, my surgery wasn't their highest priority over some of their other cases and it got pushed until around 5pm. I waited in relative comfort in my room, I fasted for 17 hours by the time I went into the OR. This was my first time meeting Dr. Faulks, it seems he has his residents meet with patients before/after surgery. He had never seen my leg, and he didn't bother to examine it before ordering general anesthesia. Next thing I knew, I was waking up, and for some reason already had a sense something was wrong. There was swelling and fracture blisters that made it not possible to operate. Had he examined the leg ahead of time, it would have been apparent. I had a new cast on and I was told the blisters were removed and bandaged. They wheeled me back to my room, and the residents met me there. At this point, I already knew something was wrong. My smallest toe was caught in the cast and I was being crushed, in addition, the cast was applying some amount of pressure to keep my foot at 90°, but rather than applying it across my foot, all the pressure was on the joint below my smallest toe. It seemed like perhaps they started the cast there and pulled everything against it. First it was tingling, then numb, and then painful. When I told the residents they gave me the same dismissive response that should be the motto of the orthopedics team there "it's a broken ankle so it's going to hurt". This is toxic because it completely ignores the fact that the pain isn't in my ankle, it's my toe, and it shifts the blame from them to me. I don't let doctors push me around though and explained that the pain wasn't in my ankle. One of the residents said he needed to go into the OR but would return with a saw to loosen the cast. He was gone for hours and the pain became maddening. The nurse injected painkillers and gave me oxycodone, but it didn't really provide any relieve to this ongoing trauma. I finally took matters into my own hands and used a knife to free my toe from the cast. The nurse seemed kind of nervous about it at first, but then after she saw how it was wrapped in the incompetence of Dr. Faulks and his team, she began assisting and between the two of us we freed it. Nearly 5 hours later the resident returned with a saw. He was not happy about the modifications to the cast. He cut both sides of it open to relieve pressure in general, but with no benefit to the area that was in pain. He refused to give me a new cast despite how poorly it fit. This region is surrounded by talented award winning orthopedic surgeons from top universities. Dr. Faulks is not one of them. He graduated from the University of Nowhere and the certificate he got from it was probably the peak of his career. He's not on any of the Top Orthopedics in DC lists for good reason, he's not one of them. Unless you're interested in smug surgeons who are too busy to care about your surgery only to needlessly deliver recreational anesthesia, look elsewhere. You can't swing a dead cat in this city without hitting a top notch orthopedic. The only reason anyone would go to this guy is if they didn't do any research and took the easy option like I did, and let me tell you, it's not worth it. I'm still imprisoned in this terrible cast that probably some resident who just got out of medical school did her best on, and I've now got to find a new surgeon to clean up his mess. The next time you're looking for an orthopedic surgeon, don't get faulked by Dr. Faulks.

The location was also very convenient for me. I was able to schedule an appointment within a few days. Parking: there's a paid parking, but there is also a lot of street parking. If you go there between school hours, it might be a little difficult to find really close street parking because some areas are limited to 15 minute parking during school hours. Appointment: They seemed very organized and on schedule....or I might have just scheduled my appointment when the office was slow. The receptionist was really nice and a pro at multi-tasking. I was impressed. The doctor I met with was really nice and friendly. They had prepared a folder with information for the country I was going to, and she walked me through all of the vaccines, pills, etc. out there and answered all of my questions...even twice, since I'm terrible at medical terminology. She didn't push any vaccines or pills on me, and she was very open with the pricing and her experience with trying to get my insurance to cover some of the shots. I highly recommend this place to others, and I'd go back....after 10 years when these vaccines start to wear off! =)

I ended up canceling because I was able to find a location that would take my insurance for the immunizations (this is why they get 4 stars instead of 5).... I don't understand why doctors practices don't take any insurance for the shots when they take it for their main practice (even GW Hospital doesn't take insurance for travel or other immunization shots). FYI for those looking for travel inoculations: Consultation Fee: $40 (injection) typhoid: $75 Tdap (tetanus): $75 Yellow Fever: $125 No prescription fee for them to fill out a script for an anti-malaria (yes, there are some clinics out there that charge a prescrip-fee!)
