Dr. Lerfald is the best psychiatrist I have ever seen, and frankly, the best physician I've known…read morein my 15 year career as a registered nurse and in my life as an adult with severe mental illness. He came highly recommended to me by a psychiatrist I worked with in Charleston. When I asked her who she would pick for herself in the area, without hesitation she said Dr. Lerfald. I am profoundly grateful she did. I first saw Dr. Lerfald in 2009 and only stopped seeing him when I moved out of state in 2013. Since then, I have lived in 3 states and have had a psychiatrist in each of them, except I've had 2 in the last state as the first one here retired. Although my current mental health provider is very good, I'm afraid none of them have been nearly as skilled or knowledgeable as Dr. Lerfald. His mental health assessment is outstanding; his ability to see straight through BS is second to none; and his tact when being direct about said BS is unbelievable. He has expectations and boundaries that are professional and appropriate. He is not a provider who simply pulls out a prescription pad to "solve" all your ills. I always felt Dr. Lerfald included my feedback and preferences in the treatment plan. He aptly noted hesitation when he suggested medications I was uncomfortable with or simple unfamiliar with. He was thorough in medically clearing me prior to diagnosing me with a mental illness. Expect a thorough history taking and lab work. Further, Dr. Lerfald is a great educator. I understood my diagnosis, my medications intended benefits, mechanism of action, expected side effects, and potential adverse reactions. He ordered lab work regularly while I being seen there as well to ensure my body systems were not being adversely affected by my treatment. On one occasion I had to call to request an appointment related to a mental health crisis precipitated by an unexpected trauma. He took my phone call and saw me within 24 hours. I absolutely could not say enough to describe how truly great he is at this role. I have recommended countless people to him, and none have expressed disappointment. In fact, everyone who saw him came to me with very positive feedback. I only wish he were within driving distance.

Yes, healthcare is a very difficult field to work in, but you can't go on Facebook ranting about patients and ex-patients, especially if you aren't going to change your privacy settings on the Facebook account from which you have shared posts on the Stillpoint TMS page (which was how I discovered this after finding out the practice was closing). This is extremely unprofessional and unhinged behavior. I am sorry that your practice is closing down, and I am sorry that working in healthcare has taken its toll. This is the worst place in the world now. The only reason people go there still, is because they…read morehave been there so long, and changing places is very unsettling for this type of facility. However, ownership changed 3 times in about a 5 year span if that tells you anything. The staff typically work 12 hour shifts, which is horrible for their mental health, and your mental health. The care staff never smiles, again because they are worn out. My counselor fell asleep every session because his wife was pregnant. Yet he still continued to work the hours because "He cared about his patients." However, he has to care about himself to care for others. So, I do not suggest this facility. The drug test there are not to see if you will fail, instead to make sure you are taking your medication ... So that also may tell you what type of individuals they have filling their seats. Please do not waste your time, nor your insurances money on this facility.
