Hi. I had a visit on 7/3 and 7/4 . While i was in the ER at General i had came by ambulance, taken off the gurney and put into a hospital bed. As I was there, I was alone, the sides were down on the bed, the nurse call light was still hanging on to the back of the bed. I was having another seizure and was getting ready to fall into the floor and because i didn't want to bust my face i had screamed out someone help me .The nurse that was originally assigned to me I don't remember her name she was blonde and pregnant. When i screamed out she came running and yelled back at me and said NO we are not doing this! She then told me to scoot myself back into the bed i told her i couldn't i was having a seizure and she proceeded to tell me, you can't respond when having a seizure, which is when i told her that it was PNES seizures and again she said well you wouldn't be responding and walked away and got the dr, he came in i was crying and still having PNES and she had told him i called her a bitch, which i had not done at that point and he ask me if i wanted another dr, i said to him it's what he thinks is best and he said well this is my nurse and that's when i said no, i want that bitch out. I have spoken to many people about this which is why it has taken me a month to write you, she should not be working in the medical field if she doesn't want to help a patient in need. read more

ER Side The nurse today put her hands on my wife tried to take her phone and then threatened my wife with security and calling the cops for basically asking for test results that they already had but refused to give her then put there hands on my wife and kicked us out with a iv still in her !!!! This place needs some help it is a joke I will be contacting patient advocate and everyone else I need to to have this resolved Thomas hospital was completely full and had my wife in and out with the hour pulled the iv out aswell Still waiting on results but luckily they have medical records department .. I've had open heart surgery, stent procedures in my heart and leg. I think this hospital along with the nurses doctors and staff is the best there can be. I have had wonderful care, with compassion and ability. I would recommend this hospital and its staff to all. Thank you CAMC read more

The resources and level of care at this hospital are abysmal. There are patients who have been in the ED for days waiting for beds but not receiving floor level nursing care. Patients are parked in the hallway in the ED to receive treatment and being treated in the waiting room. read more

Noel's Journey Begins at CAMC General with her Gastric & Hernia Repair Surgery on 01/31/2022 My daughter had Surgery at CAMC General in Charleston WV at the Short Stay area on first floor. I was there from 630am to 4pm, they didn't admit her because toomey Covid cases in hospital. Dr Shin did her surgery. The nurses and staff was so helpful & friendly. Mask mandate and temperature checks in effect, security team helpful with Visitors Pass and directions. The cafeteria food good and reasonably priced & importantly Clean!! The gift shop staff helpful and very nice!! I bought her a Get Well Balloon and Purple Bear!! Highly recommend this hospital for your needs to!!! read more

I recently went to CAMC General Hospital, to visit a family whose daughter was dying. Oh my everyone was so pleasant, they made sure the hallway was clean and quiet for the family and friends who had come to pay their respects! The nurses kept checking on the family to make sure they were comfortable and that they had everything they needed! This is how nurses and Doctors are considered angels! read more

Why do I keep seeking medical care at CAMC General? It must be that it is relatively close to my home. It is taking way too long to get my chest X-ray. It seems the x-ray staff all went to lunch at the same time. Now I am in limbo. Three different admitting clerks have worked the desk since my arrival. My time appears to have no value to CAMC. Zombies from The Walking Dead were in the lobby until just recently. Apparently this is a popular gathering space. Now security is interacting with a woman with emotional issues. I am beginning to think that I should order a pizza while I sit here and wait. read more

My granddaughter was attacked by a pitbull. She was taken immediately to Cabell. They took care of what they could but she had to be transported to CAMC for surgery. She received amazing care from Dr. O and his staff. She was so very well taken care of. She was placed on 5th floor trauma peds. Those ladies were fantastic! They all took such great re of her. I am so very grateful. Everyone was absolutely amazin to Willow and myself. She was definitely blessed with the best care. My family and I are eternally grateful. Ty all! read more

I'm not sure how to review this hospital. My aunt is a patient right now . Dr. Swan an oncologist came in around 9- 930 last night and told her it was her fault she has cancer . What a classless , evil person. I will be filing a report with administration on Monday morning. I expect an apology to my aunt , STAT.... another doctor, upon her admission last week, based only on a conversation and physical exam told her she had four stage pancreatic cancer... this was before biopsies. I am speechless. Hopefully these people retire. They are not cut out for this line of work. Perhaps thee local news in Charleston would like to investigate? read more

My problem with CAMC is they are less than assist outpatients who are attempting to communicate with them as an outpatient. It is to the degree that I have called on multiple occasions and have begun to document when because calls are not returned with Covid being the excuse for calls being retuned the next day. They do not call the next day or the next day. When you finally get someone, ask for the supervisor they refuse to get one and transfer you to the original staff. They are curt and abrupt and do not listen to what you are saying. They strongly emphasize there is nothing they can do in a patronizing and condescending manner. I requested to speak to my doctor, J. Orphanos and not only did she refuse to give her name, she hung up in my face. Please hep your patients who are in distress. The hospital has it's inconveniences--like parking and walking around--but it's a hospital with hard workers and a great many that are caring for your well-being. Kept clean, although people litter like crazy outside. Smokers don't listen to the 15 feet rule when it comes to entrances. Some panhandlers happen. Pop machines are pricey. But it's a hospital. Lots of good people work here. read more

I've had more bad experiences at general than good, but just like most hospitals it depends on who your nurses and doctors are, and the hospital needs to be updated I fell like I'm in the 70s when I'm in there. I've had way better experiences with CAMC Memorial. read more

Neuroscience ICU was the area I am reviewing here. All the nurses I spoke to on the phone and in person were helpful and calm as well as understanding. There was a particular night time nurse my husband and I extremely appreciated and his name was Wes. It is so important to have someone so sweet and helpful towards the patient as well as the family in these circumstances, it really goes a long way. I am just so happy about everyone that has and is helping us with my father right now. I've never had such great experiences with hospital staff anywhere. They have got themselves an amazing team on floor 4C. read more

Especially considering it's a hospital, there is not a terrible smell that one usually finds. They serve Starbucks coffee but the kiosk isn't always open. The nurses are nice but a bit forgetful. It's stupid to have to pay for parking. read more

I was taken here by ambulance as I was suspected of having a stroke. My time in the er was long as they were busy. Taken to a room overnight. The nurses were great as I was moved since roommate was up all night & they had an extra room. She said she couldn't walk but went outside twice to smoke. I had a cardiologist & neurologist read my tests. They came in the next day & said all looked good so went home that day. There were 3 patients that needed all the nurses care. I went to the bathroom as I had the only clothes I had to wear home. Great treatment in hospital and er. read more

I have only been to the emergency room once and they were fairly prompt and professional. They were not too busy and I was well taken care of. They administered to my needs very well. They are within a short walk from my home. My mom just this week had joint replacements surgery. They took excellent care of her. They were attentive to her needs all of the nursing staff were very professional and made sure her needs were promptly addressed. They made sure that she was not in pain. The doctors were excellent in seeing that her needs were addressed in a timely fashion. They didn't rush her out the door as is too often the case in modern medicine. They had originally planned to send her home the next day. They were very cognizant that that should not be the case. They made sure that her pain was manageable with oral medication and that she could be comfortable with elimination. She is going to need at home nursing, but they made sure that she was ready to be released. They didn't run her out the door. It was very reassuring that she was so well taken care of at the hospital. I would have to say that the experience was better than was expected. I would give their trauma ward high marks for every thing they did to make her stay as easy as possible. I reconsidering my star rating and upping to four stars. read more

this hospital has the best staff I have ever seen. the ER and ICu units are filled with staff that truly make a difference. The general floors are the same although on those floors you deal with more staff so its a little less personable in some areas. The neuro team here is top notch. and considering the vagrants etc through the ER , I don't know how that staff does it. thank you Charleston General .
