When Joann's in Kingston, NY shut down, two of the longtime employees put their heads and hearts together and opened Frugal Fabrics on Ulster Avenue. This isn't your typical fabric store- big box or otherwise. What sets Frugal apart is that these ladies accept some fabrics as donations and sell. But don't mistake that for low quality. The fabric selection here is impressive AND affordable. While my home leans neutral with rustic woods, concrete and stone, I love to funktify it with pops of color. I don't sew, but I do love beautiful fabric and walking into Frugal F. felt like heaven. The colors, the heft, the textures- especially the pieces I picked up, were delicious. It's a hidden gem for crafters and quilters- neither of which I am, but I'm so glad I came here- plus these ladies know their stuff. By the way, they offer a point system and get 'oink' ;-) points based on how many yards of fabric were purchased.

Not only did Five Star Fabric House carry the fabric I wanted but the lovely, helpful store manager searched for extra fabric for me. He also was able to connect me with a seamstress to make the curtains. He was so helpful with measurements, was attentive throughout the process and even suggested a slight modification to the design of the curtain to improve them. We had laughs and very comfortable setting. The owner Cindy, was very nice, she smiles and has an approachable great attitude. A pleasant environment to shop in. She has machines to sell and use while learning. She has a tiny area but very nice to find things you need and offer many types of courses to learn.
