Great community pool in the middle of town. The pros: Abundant parking, somewhat clean bathrooms,…read morewell behaved and supervised children, lifeguards that actually enforce rules, a sprayground, waterslide, shade, picnic tables and a concession stand. 15 minutes on the hour, kids are restricted to using other areas while only adults can peacefully enjoy the pool for the remainder of the hour. This public membership/fee park is a lovely and inexpensive way to relax while you let your kids loose. You are allowed to bring a cooler and picnic foods. I observed some adults tackfully bring their own special blend of "grown up juice"( I must reiterate, VERY TACKFULLY). This pool is very family centered and billgerant or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated here. Use common sense and you will love hanging out here. I enjoyed my afternoon here under the shade of an umbrella. Its well worth the admission. If you are an avid user of the pool, you may want to pay for a membership. You can cross the street and pay for seasonal acess at the rec center.

It's been years since I've been to a public pool outside of a campground. But with the heat wave…read morein full effect and a grandchild longing to swim, Monday, July 5th was the perfect time to go check out the nearest public pool - Mountville. While a local pool is literally around the corner from my house in Landisville, it's by membership only, as most of the area pools are becoming. I'm thankful Mountville is open to the public, although they also offer memberships. We arrived a good 20 minutes before their noon opening and a line had already developed, about 20 families deep. When they opened their gate they left members go in first, than started taking cash customers (cash or charge were accepted). I watched as the prior families grabbed umbrellas and lounge chairs from an unknown source and knew I wanted one too. The lifeguard pointed me in the direction of a storage closet by the rest rooms where 2 umbrellas remained unclaimed. The lounges and other chairs were all gone, which are piled up nearby when available. The grass is marked with a white circle of paint in the spots that have a tube for the umbrella to stand. The crowd of people was pretty heavy that day, but we still managed to get a slightly shaded spot on a hill in the grass. While there is some flat space, there's a few areas that are on an incline and/or shaded. There's also a pavilion and grilling and outside food are both acceptable. They also have a snack bar which we didn't check out. There were at least 4 lifeguards on duty. The bathrooms could have been cleaner and were out of soap and paper towels, but did have a communal shower, and private changing areas with a chair. There's a small kiddie pool that's a gradual walk in, with sprays and a mushroom. A very large main pool is to the right, with a ramp for walking down, a twisty slide, and a roped off deeper area with two diving boards. The more shallow area of the main pool is roped off and was very crowded. They do allow floats and rafts, just no footballs, although I did see some kids throwing one in the pool. For the most part people were respectful, however a tad neglectful as to what their children were doing. Several times it was the lifeguards that had to intervene and not the parents when they got out of control. There was a group of kids that constantly were causing a ruckus and roughhousing so we tried to stay clear of them. Since it was so crowded that day social distancing in the pool was near impossible, and bumping bums with someone was the norm. Some things that I felt were a negative: the price for one. Normally an adult runs $10, and a child $8 but they considered July 5th a holiday so the price was inflated. It cost $25 for us (adult, small child) to swim for two hours, although there isn't a time limit on how long you can stay. They do not offer refunds for any situation, including closures due to weather. While we were there someone threw up in the pool so everyone had to get out for an hour, which is in part why we decided to leave when we did. Secondly, I would have loved for them to have an earlier opening. Noon seems a tad late in the day. Lastly, and I touched on this before, the crowd of parents who let their kids run rapid. At this price point and given the suburban location I would think they'd be more attentive.

The pool was shut down because a kid took a dump on the pool. Could have offered a future pass or something.
