This bike shop is absolutely stellar. My wife and I have frequented another bike shop for years but they didn't carry any bike models for our particular use case within our narrow price point. I was calling around to other shops to see what offerings were available and I was surprised to see this shop listed so close to us because I had never seen it before (they have no sign on the shop, it is just painted on the windows). One of the owners, Chad, answered my call and talked to me about some options I might consider. He was very kind and took several minutes answering my questions. When we visited the shop, we were able to continue our conversation right where we left off. Chad spent a great amount of time talking through specifics and asking a lot of questions about our use cases. We talked about places we ride locally and places we ride when we travel. He would always ask how much detail we wanted in answers to questions and would very patiently break down every facet on every bike we asked about with no signs of hurry or being rushed. When we finally settled on a model, they didn't have any on hand but they ordered them for us on a reasonable down payment. I also want to highlight the fact that he was perfectly fine with us thinking on it and coming back, there was no pressure to purchase that day. When the bikes came in, we scheduled a time for a fitting. Sarah, the other owner, took time adjusting every bit of the bike fit to our exact specs and Chad spent a great deal of time working on our suspension while also talking us through how to make adjustments on our own. Their attention to detail was incredible and they even took time to cut handlebars and find a more suitable saddle for my wife during her fitting. On our first outing on the new bikes, I made a silly mistake and kinked my dropper post cable. When I brought it back to the shop the next day, the mechanic Andrew dropped what he was doing and fixed it while I was there. Every interaction with the staff here has been amazing. They are genuinely good humans who love bikes and care about their customers. I cannot recommend them enough. read more

I have been to Neighborhood Bicycles several times, but my most recent visit solidified this five star review. My bike had a leak in the brakes, so I took it in for them to look at. They were able to use the existing break line for the repair, saving me from having to buy a new line, and had it back to me the next business day. When I got my bike back, it was spotless. Not only did they fix my issue, they cleaned and maintained my bike free of charge. That's all great, but my favorite thing about the shop is the atmosphere. The workers always seem enthusiastic about answering my cycling questions, regardless of whether I end up buying something or not. I truly cannot recommend Neighborhood Bicycles enough!! read more

Best bike shop in OkC Metro worth the drive from okc just to see the nice and overly kind staff.

My bike needed new brake pads. Came into this shop with one of my break pads in hand. First of all, this bike shop is lined with high-end e-bikes. Anyway the teller refused to look at the brake pad in hand and insisted on looking at the bike outside in person. I'm like okay.. At first sight of my bike, a Walmart bike I should add, the teller referred us to another bike shop. All I needed was some brake pads of the same type as my bike. It turns out the shop HAD the brake pads I needed but was going to refer us to a different bike shop anyway. Had to convince them to just sell me the brake pads alone so I could get the job done. Also, the allen wrench set they tried to sell me was $40.. I got a pack for $4 at walmart instead. Needless to say, this bicycle shop is no "neighborhood" bicycle shop. If you're a college student like me with a walmart bike or other affordable bike, I don't recommend going here. They might just turn you away unless you have one of their expensive e-bikes. The name of this shop is absolutely misleading. I'll never be back. read more

I broke a part on a complicated, electronic derailleur. The Shanks' had to send it back to the manufacturer numerous times to try and help me keep from having to spend a lot more money buying a newer group set. They were in my corner and my advocate the whole time. The system was finally fixed by the manufacturer and despite the fact this took up way more of Chad and Sara's time, I was shocked how little they charged me for labor. Al's is a Norman treasure. I purchased a folding bicycle here in late 2012. Their prices are very competitive. The salesperson allowed me to test drive the bicycles I was interested in (it's very important to do this!). I also purchased a few accessories which they installed for free. Al's offers free tune ups on bicycle purchases. I have taken the bike in four or five times for a tune up and they have always done great, timely work - for free! There was a manufacturing problem with a part on the bike that occurred after about a year of ownership and they replaced it and did the work for free. This is a very honest business. I recommend them to everyone interested in purchasing a bicycle in the Norman area. read more

I stopped in to Neighborhood to have my bike worked on, not really knowing what to expect as a fairly new rider. Chad was extremely helpful and explained everything my bike needed thoroughly. I had asked for a full disassembly and rebuild to which he informed me was not needed, saving me money by preventing unnecessary work. Edit: This turned into the most positive experience I've had with a bike shop. Chad is a really chill, friendly guy. He put in the time and effort to walk me through some unique challenges with my bike, and he made sure I left happy. I walked away with a much better appreciation of my bike. Now that I have a better understanding of what the issue was, I actually feel like I got a really incredible deal on the solution we found. Also, Sarah was really friendly in our email exchange, and she was right. I checked the receipt, and the tune-up was $75. I will definitely be going back to Neighborhood Bicycle Shop in the future. ____________ I brought in a bike I hadn't used in a while for a tune-up. I think $80 is steep for a standard tune-up, but at least the pricing is up front. They also changed the back tire. I couldn't see the damage to it, but whatever. Sometimes it's hard to see. It ended up costing $130 total. When I came back to pick it up, they had some explanation about why the tire was hard to change, saying they popped three different tubes trying to get it to work. I didn't really understand the explanation, so I asked some follow-up questions, but I still don't really understand what the problem was. Something like it's an old style of rim so modern tires don't fit it well? I've taken this bike to a couple different shops in different areas, and I've had both the front and back tires changed before. This is the first I've heard that it's hard to replace the tires. But indeed, the tire does look like it sits weirdly on the wheel. After about 15 miles of riding, the tube popped. The tube was flat but not popped when I brought it in, so I think this tube-popping issue must be new. Because of this weird tire fit, the bike is less rideable now than it was when I first brought it in. I feel like I spent $130 to make my bike worse. read more

Awesome place with great service + reasonable price. The bike techs here are approachable and not stuck-up like you'll encounter in some stores near OU campus. They will not charge you for things that does not need replacement just for quick bucks. I had a broken inner-tire due to poor bike assembly and thought the outer tire need replacement. They told me it's unnecessary to replace my outer tire. Bonus: inner-tire is free with Yelp check-in! Recommended to my bike-riding friends. read more

Best bike buying experience ever. Andrew really helped me out and explained everything to me. These guys know what they are doing. I went in to research and purchase a adult trike, a burley trailer and a electric pedal assist bike for myself due to medical. Andrew explained each one of them to me. They had a pedal assist on hand that I got to take out for a spin. After riding that I was sold! I felt like a kid again with none of the pain or inability to ride a bike purely because of my deteriorating joints and pain. I ordered what I wanted with Hank and put down half and through out the week everything started to come into the shop. They had put all the bikes together for me. Installed the lights, drink cages and everything. They were so nice and knowledgeable and showed me how everything worked. Even helped me load it in the van which was a huge help for me! Our first ride out was a blast and cannot wait to do it again tomorrow. And I am SO glad to know that if I do something stupid, crash or just need a tune up that I know I can go back to Al's and they will know what they are doing to be able to get me back out safely on the road. I am very dissatisfied with the service I have had from this business. I took my cheap bike in there to get a basket put on, which ended up costing my than the original price of my bike. Then, I take it back there today due to a flat tire I noticed as soon as I got back to campus from the shop. When i told the owner about this, he was rude and stated that it was not his fault. Whether that was true or not, I was very upset and he did not seem to care. The cost for my tire was going to be less than $20 and I feel as if they should have just made me happy and done it for free. Then when I left I received a call from the owner stating that there is more wrong with my bike and it will cost more money to fix. When I stated that I was disinterested in having them repair my bike at all, the owner was very dismissive and rude to me. read more

My bike was running very rough so I stopped in Al's bicycles for some help. I spoke with Chad who was super helpful. He suggested a tune up which I agreed with.
