I really like this Barnes & Noble store. There's plenty of…read moreparking, but be careful crossing the walkway into the store as it's near the shopping plaza entrance, and drivers turn in rather quickly. The store is large and spacious with a lot of merchandise that is very well organized. There is a Starbucks in the front of the establishment and you can get your favorite beverage and relax. They also have a great selection of magazines, special gifts for the book lovers in your life, and I always seem to find something good in the clearance area. The staff is helpful in finding whatever you're looking for.

So mad and upset will never shop here again! will get all future books from Amazon!…read more Back before Charlie Kirk was Assassinated I heard him talking about his up coming book about the Sabbath "Stop in the Name of God!" at that time I wasn't fully sure if it was out or not so I came into the store for it. when I couldn't find it I found a worker to ask! she was early twenties brunette and was friendly at first, but the moment I told her what I was looking for her demeanor changed. I could tell she was judging me but at the time I didn't care. She stated it wasn't out but I could preorder it, I said yes please gave my name, phone number and email and asked if I could pay for it now. she said no I had to wait till it was in, I said ok thanks and thought I was good! today I went in to get my copy and what I was excited for became aggravation quickly! I was told I was not on the list for the book and that my information wasn't even in their system. I told them no I was in here months ago and talked to someone who was rude but that I gave her all my information. they apologized and said they didn't have a copy for me and that they are sold out, they also couldn't say if and when more would come out. The two ladies today were nice and took my information again but I'm so aggravated that my personal views were not just judged by an employee but that she pretended to help and then no one could rectify it! I will be ordering my copy somewhere else and telling anyone who will listen this store is not to be trusted and to shop elsewhere!

So, to sum it up - the place is cozy cramped, but organized chaotically, and am here for it. They have popular books from contemporary authors although limited in titles. They have plenty of classic novels and a wide range of specialty topics. Books are both new and used. Price is retail but you can have that instant gratification vs waiting for package ordered from online. When searching for a specific author or title, don't be afraid to look through the stacked books on the floor. Two level bookstore but most of popular interest are on the main level. Ever be of two minds about a place…read more One, you really want to like them, but then Two... knowing they're usually NOTHING like what their store title promises you? The second part is my problem with "Half Priced Books". (At least the one just off of 170. I swear I've been to their other location but remember absolutely zilch about them overall (not a good sign for writing reviews, I know.)). I've already seen other reviews who have pointed out "DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS" here.. and I understand every one of those reviewers. I overheard some offers for some -standard- books and .. I get making money and reselling, but no, this deal sounded like highway robbery. Not sounding too good so far, huh? or maybe I'm just a crotchety old man who hates seeing good books get ignored just cause they're not in our "market" today. Now: I will say this.. i'm a board game and tabletop roleplaying game fanatic (particularly Palladium books), and this is one of the FEW places that ever have what I'm looking for in my roleplaying Genre. (Yes, I will buy used books to complete my collection). But let's get back to the complaints: (usually I'm a lot nicer in my reviews, but when you blow it this badly...) Until not too long ago, when i picked up a min-book i needed in which the cover price was $19.95, and someone had to have brought it in and sold it to HPB, and _maybe_ got A buck or 2 for it. HPB Sticker price: $35!!!!! Yes, read that again folks... A "half price" book shop, charging DOUBLE what the original publisher (who was still publishing the book in question, was NOT out of stock, and could be found on their webpage for cover price + s/h). So which is the lie? The price or the name of the shop? Basically a store that lies to sell? 0 Stars... TOTAL. But I will say there are two things that are going in HPB's favor: There are some books there for reasonable prices (I'm an Asimov. Clarke, Heinlein fanatic (basically SciFi) and Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. And I finally found a couple of copies of the later Foundation series I'd been hunting for, so I had to get them while the getting was good. And then board games: again next to roleplaying games I'm a board game nut! And there are more than a few good used games there, for instance I'm a Trivial Pursuit collector (a small collection, but a collection), and I cannot see putting a near RETAIL price on a board game that's shows itself to be 45 years old, and while in good shape, the container was showing its age. As for DVDs/Vinyl - Plain and simple, (while it's nice to see Vinyl for sale), if they have something you're looking for, again there's a problem in either the name of the store or their selling policy, because everything felt "near retail". (although I guess you can say they're not "Half Price Books & Music".) Take a better chance at a regular or used record store, for the music lovers of the world. So basically as I said at the beginning: Half Priced Books Is a place that I REALLY want to like them (and do have a couple of good points, (softback books and board games) but how do you give a positive review to a store that completely ignores their own name of their store? Sorry HPB I get the point, but 1 star is all I can bring myself to give you this time around and that's because I usually err on the side of generosity. (Probably because I'm still miffed about the "twice the cover price" book I needed?)

There are signs for the different section. Staff (owner?) was friendly and helpful. I took some books to trade in and about half of what I brought was accepted, which is better than at some stores. I got an old paperback copy of a book I've been seeking in stores for a couple of years. There was good variety in the store and a nice local/Missouri history section. The cat is still there, so I'm happy as can be with Well Read Books. I will make a point of visiting again soon in the future.

The moment I walked in I was approached by a woman doing a petition. She asked me to sign after…read moreverbally giving me info. I told her I'd like to read about it before I sign and she kind of looked at me like I'm crazy and said "I like to be more informed before I make a decision." She told me no one else had to think about it and I told her I did. That was weird and uncomfortable, especially when she turned from me and asked my wife. She gave the same answer. Selection is pretty broad but the store is very political and it's obvious. They have a sign that said "everyone is welcome, except ICE.", Black Lives Matter, gay pride, and anything that is demeaning to republicans. It's honestly distracting and disappointing. Someone who may not have the same beliefs may not feel comfortable walking around with fascist stickers, and everything that is demeaning towards "the right". Value is good and as I said before the selection is quite broad. There were a lot of pro-gay books which you never really see anywhere else. There are also all kinds of self help books and everything else you might expect. Overall I do recommend this place, but I can see how a large majority of people would feel really out of place here. That aside, it's a really nice establishment with very friendly staff. Not so crazy about the woman in the front pressuring me to sign her petition. I'm sure she meant well though.

I love how they have a section devoted to translated literature - I'm on a Japanese literature kick! I even found a book on my TBR downstairs in their used section, which felt very lucky - especially for $7! They don't have as many knick-knacks and gifty things as other indie bookstores, but I don't mind it. Sometimes I'd rather have the focus be on the books.

I always forget there's a B&N in Fenton. Ive had to frequent it a lot lately for various gifts and…read morethis location is becoming home. One this visit I noticed groups of ppl spread out with Lego boxes. When I inquired, they informed me that they have a partnership with Lego and every so often they have free Lego build days. All you have to do is sign up in advance, you arrive and get your kit and you build away. When done, you get a Lego certificate of completion and a few other fun things. What they were building that day was neat so we signed up for the next one. There's always something for everyone here and bookstores are great to sit and forget about the world.
