Let me start by saying I had no issues with the credit union until this recent experience. It…read morestarted when my son was trying to buy a new car after moving back to St. Peters, MO after working out of state the last couple years. I was involved because I was a co-signer on his auto loan. We had consulted with Anthony at Electro about my son getting a new car loan on his own but were informed that since my son had just moved back and did not have enough time on the job to verify enough income that he would again need a co-signer. (He needed a new car because his car's transmission went out and had 120k miles, so it didn't make sense to repair) We understood, and my son had a friend that was willing to co-sign that had good credit and more than sufficient income. After the co-signer gave all their personal and confidential information to the credit union, Anthony sent my son an email stating that they were unable to grant the loan since he doesn't have enough time on the job. We questioned Anthony as we understood that to be the very reason he needed a co-signer. He responded stating a co-signer doesn't guarantee he'll get the loan as my son would still be the primary and would have to meet the income verifications. If this was actually the case, then there was absolutely no need for a co-signer to give all their information. I consider this a phishing scam to attain another persons personal and confidential information for unknown purpose. The co-signer never received any denial; only my son received the denial. The co-signer decided they were just going to buy the car for my son (through a different credit union) and he is now paying the co-signer back. If this is the way Electro Credit Union does business, then it needs to be investigated. We are now contemplating whether to notify the local news stations for an investigative report for phishing or just contacting an attorney directly. Borrower beware. Co-signer's beware x10.
