Love coming to this neighbor game when in town. The food is good and the atmosphere is great. This being my third time here, I did notice a couple of things. The burger has shrunk! Maybe is a sign of the times, but for the same price from the past, I need the same size burger! *Do not expect "crispy fried onions" as a burger topping to be crispy, nor fried like the option described. They translate that as "grilled".* (#strange - Don't bring me onion rings as an alternative!) The service was tough with a crowded bar during this season of gatherings and karaoke. I only saw two people working all the tables and off they don't look your way, good luck in getting their attention for a table of only 4. One of the oldest operating taverns, famous for being featured in Goodfellas. Old school, dark wood, nothing fancy. I had the Goodfellas burger, which was thick, juicy, and tasty. The fries were well seasoned and hot. Drinks were basic, but good. Other options include smothered nachos, Mac n cheese, Bavarian pretzel, cheese quesadilla, wings, grilled chicken, grilled salmon. There was one craft beer tap from Finback, but that keg was finished. Full bar. Whiskey selection appeared to be all macro distillers too. Service at the bar was ultra quick and friendly. Reasonably priced beer at $7.50. Very casual atmosphere. Lots of TVs making it an excellent venue to watch a games. They had some outside seating too. read more

So I was suppose to come to a Juneteenth event here but got the dates mixed up and ended up just getting an early dinner here. I sat at the bar and ordered from their happy hour menu. Place is quiet. The happy hour options are decent. I got a margarita and it was tasty and not watered down at all. Enough alcohol for me to just order one. I ordered the wings and mozzarella sticks, they were delicious and fresh. The fries were also good and plenty. I would come here for happy hour again. Neir's Tavern is one of those places that surprises you in the best way. I had never seen the movie it was featured in so I walked in completely clueless about its background. My friend lives just a block away and for nearly ten years he had wanted to check it out. Now that he is about to move he finally decided it was time to visit and asked me and another friend to join him. Going in with zero expectations made the experience even better. The bar is in a quiet residential neighborhood which is not where you would expect to find a place like this. That's part of what makes it so interesting. It doesn't feel like a typical food or nightlife area but that only adds to its charm. We went on a Friday night around 7 which was just after happy hour and there were plenty of open seats. The vibe inside was relaxed and welcoming. It has a classic look and feels lived in but not rundown. I ordered some nachos and other finger foods along with a cold beer. Everything was really good. It's nothing overly complicated just solid food and drinks that hit the spot. What stood out the most was how easy it was to just hang out and enjoy the space. The staff was friendly and no one made us feel rushed. It was nice to be in a place where people actually talk and enjoy themselves instead of being glued to their phones or caught in a loud crowd. Neir's Tavern was founded in 1829 and is one of the oldest bars in the country. We came here because it is known for being a location where they filmed Goodfellas. Though it is a very historical bar, the customers there were mainly locals. Neir's is located deep into Queens, close to JFK airport, so it is not that convenient for tourists to visit. That made the experience more enjoyable, seeing such a lively and old school place. We shared some wings and had their popular Goodfellas burger with fries. Because this place is a landmark and close to 200 years old, I would call before coming. We arrived at about 3:30 but ESPN was filming something so we had to wait about an hour. It was worth it. Perfection = Ratio of steak to cheese to bread. My friend ordered the fried chicken sandwich. That piece of chicken was wider than the bun. The chicken is battered and fried. It's accompanied by fresh lettuce, slice of tomato and slice of onion. Produce is super fresh. Oh, for appetizer, we ordered wings. I think it was Thai flavored which fell flat to us. I only 1st heard and Neir's a few days ago after the passing of Ray Liotta, the actor in Goodfellas. The film was recorded here on many scenes. Came and met some friends who were in town to visit the tavern. The tavern was originally opened in 1820's and is still going strong. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and I ordered a pint of Guiness to start. It was a Sunday and the brunch menu was available. I ordered the Croque Madame which was very fresh. The bread was grilled and had a little crunch, ham was on top then the cheese and a Sunnyside up egg. The potatoes were fresh and chunky and the salad that comes with it also fresh! The bartender was a Hispanic guy with a very pleasant attitude. It was certainly an enjoyable experience here. Btw, Margarita Mondays...12oz for $5!!!
