The food was kind of dry and there was no sauce, and the bread was burnt. The delivery guy was on time.

A few weeks ago, my longtime buddy and I went to Jerry's Hilltop on Saturday night for their Prime…read moreRib meal. We like to try local restaurants around the state and call our operation "Boyz Against Salads (BAS)". We were unsure how busy things would be that night because we knew this restaurant was fairly popular among the locals. I decided to call a few days before and make a reservation for Saturday night. While on the phone, the woman asked me if I wanted to save any cuts of Prime Rib for Saturday. I said absolutely we do. This is not an accommodation that I have seen at another restaurant, but it was a welcomed aspect that more restaurants should take part in. As you pull up to the restaurant, which is actually located on the top of the hill of a highway, you will see an unsuspecting building. There were dozens of cars there at 6:45 that night, which did have us worried, but we were grateful to have made a reservation prior to our arrival. When we entered the building, we were quickly greeted by the hostess. It was clear that our assumption about the level of popularity of this establishment was true. There were dueling parties being hosted within the restaurant. And let me tell you, this is a huge venue. Even with all of the cars outside, there was still plenty of room on the inside. We were quickly provided our table, and a waitress greeted us shortly thereafter. Something that we picked up on right away was how many waitresses were working that night. I have never seen so many in a local restaurant. Perhaps this was due to the party celebrations taking place, but nonetheless, this helped offer superior service to the customers. The waitress we had was extremely cordial, knowledgeable, and a true helper to a few outside fellas. As we scoured the menu, we saw that the Prime Rib meal was only $30 (They offer a smaller cut for only a dollar less.), and it came with a smorgasbord of food. The standard side salad, choice of potato, and bun were expected, but we did not anticipate also being offered a cup of soup and a relish tray. This was also something else we had never seen before by being provided a relish tray. This was brought out extremely fast after our order was taken. And let me tell you what, there was plenty on this relish tray. The picture attached was taken after my buddy and I had devoured a large chunk of it. The rest of our meal came out in a reasonable amount of time. The Prime Rib was cooked perfectly. The au jus had a great salty flavor. The loaded baked potato was wonderful. My buddy and I also had to order some pie and ice cream for dessert. If you have not had the chance to stop at Jerry's Hilltop, I highly recommend that you do so in the near future. This is a fine family establishment that is worth your time. The entire staff will treat you as if you were their own family. For our BAS operation, we keep track of all the restaurants we visit and grade them on five different characteristics (price point, taste, portion size, restaurant ambiance, and plating). We each rate the various characteristics out of five and then add both scores up. The maximum points allowed per characteristic is ten. Jerry's Hilltop came out with a score of 44/50, which currently holds the top spot in our leaderboard. We HIGHLY recommend Jerry's Hilltop.

Over the past months, I've made some huges changes with my diet. It's a long but for me, a good…read morestory with the net result so far being that I already feel better and I hope look better as a side benefit. Part of the journey has brought me back to a traditional diet referred to as paleo and along with that I've returned to a bit of knowledge great-grandmothers used to proffer even if they didn't know the science behind it. And what I'm referring to as "great- grandma knowledge" is about the wonders of fermented cod liver oil. I see you all recoiling in horror right now but trust me, CLO has gotten a bad rap as something to recoil from. That couldn't be farther from the truth. The taste is manageable and the benefits are many. CLO is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D both of which can be in woefully short supply in the average diet. I've read that most North Americans are deficient in Vitamin D which in reality acts more like an important hormone in the body than a vitamin. Green Pastures is a family-owned company that produces what they call "sacred oils". Their product line includes fermented cod liver oil, skate liver oil, high vitamin butter oil, and coconut oil I've ordered both cod liver oil and the grass-fed butter oil since they work better when taken together. I've been pleased with the products and the customer service this company provides. They use traditional methods for making their non-industrialized products. The fish are all wild, never farmed and are fished out of Arctic waters where they thrive. They deal with folks who fish sustainably and the products meet or exceed standards when tested for PCBs and heavy metals. They subscribe to the work that was done by Dr. Weston Price who was a dentist back in the 1930s and '40s who traveled the world studying traditional diets and learning about those native people who managed to have exceptional dental and physical health and why this seemed to be so. The cod-liver oil comes plain which I prefer or with the addition of natural flavors which might be more palatable to some. The butter oil which is thick is kind of like eating a bit of butter, so easy to manage. I can't do more than mention that along with the dietary changes and the addition of these products, I've so far been a happier, healthier human with my eyes wide open now to some of the food myths I'd fallen for. Everyone has to travel on their own food and dietary path, but if you're interested in these kinds of nutrients, Green Pastures may have something for you too. http://www.westonaprice.org/cod-liver-oil/clo-number-one-superfood
