Nelson & Kennard is still contacting me over an old debt. I have no ability to pay, which was already communicated to them through a judge and prior legal proceedings, yet I continue to receive repeated collection notices. Despite previously working with a pro bono legal agency that helped pause contact, communication has started again. As of May 2026, The continued contact has caused me significant stress and made me feel unsafe in my own home. I have formally requested that all communication stop, and let them know if the repeated contact continues, I will be proceeding with a restraining order Against Nelson & Kennard, Scott Kennard, Gloria Zarco, Stacy Evan's, Rosie Hargave, and Tyler Flores. They will claim to help you settle your debts. However when you make a payment, they will mishandle your money, lie to your debtor, and avoid any accountability. They lie and should be sued for their malpractice. Each time I tried to resolve the issue, they would either avoid talking or refuse to resolve the issue unless you give them more money. They call and call and call and don't leave a call back number. When you look up the firm online, it takes you to a call center for the company and the people are rude as he**. Two people hung up on me when I asked them why they are calling. When I spoke to another, I told her I have no assets and then hung up on me. This company is horrible...horrible customer service, rude people answering the phone, leaving cryptic messages with barely any info except who the company is. read more

Some of the most lousy and unprofessional customer service I've ever experienced. Wait times to speak to an actual person were ridiculous! They filed a lien on my property for a 1500 dollar balance. When I finally got through and talked to someone about it, I advised them that I would just leave the lien and pay it off if, I ever decided to sell or refinance my house. It almost became an argument as he said, "That's not an option or arrangement sir." They wanted that money NOW. To me, it made no difference: pay it upfront or pay it once I sell or refinance my house. The person I was speaking to said, "I wouldn't do that, sir; I wouldn't recommend that to any of my family members or not even to my enemies". He then threatened me that that was just "one way" to collect my debt and that they could also garnish my wages. Felt like I was "getting muscled" one way or another to get that money now. Their payment options offered are so outdated. ONLY checks, or payment by mail. He humored me saying I could pay online, USING A CHECK. I cannot remember the last time I purchased a stamp to mail something out, and I can't remember the last time I owned checks, let alone wrote a check, but that's the only option they provide. They set me up on a temp. payment plan. We made a payment plan using fictitious check numbers (check no. 1001, 1002, etc.) as I don't own a checkbook and could not give him actual check numbers, BUT, ONLY for 6 months at a time, instead of scheduling and taking care of the whole thing/arrangement in one shot. It's almost as if they want to set you up for failure or to continue the harassment. It's 2025, for crying out loud; who doesn't take some type of electronic payment (debit, credit card, etc.) Worst experience ever! I understand the debt is mine and have never tried to relinquish that responsibility. HOWEVER, not because of that does anyone deserve the treatment and rudeness of this "company." Yesterday 08/31 I get a call from the office from one of the rudest i professional people at ext166. Her voice is full of content and you can hear how miserable of a person she is. My papers were served to me in the open, not in an envelope. ON top of that, I've been trying to pay this bill for a week but at every turn, they haven't given me the information I need to properly be able to pay the bill. This company is a disappointment. Kristen Sleezer has been sending me a letter that is not accurate at least 4 times in the last week. I just spoke to Anthony who agrees that the information on the letter is incorrect. He said he would have another person by the name of Vanessa Thomas correct the letter. This is what I've been told twice a day for the last week. For the last 7 days, I've spoken to multiple ppl in this office and they are so quick to give you the same spiel instead of listening and providing accurate documentation/paperwork that reflects up to date information. It's sad that it's almost like you're talking to a broken computer. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Contacted by a lawyer with this firm (Taylor Bray) concerning a debt that had incurred due to the creditor going out of business. Threatened with legal filings if I did not agree to pay but when I worked out an agreement I added up the total they discussed and it was for $800.00 more that owed. When asked they said they had already filed and this was the court costs. I was told I would receive papers in the mail to fill out but 10 days later I still have not received any paperwork and now the agreed upon date has arrived. From what I have researched on Nelson & Kennard this is common practice so there is nothing in writing so you cannot get them in their lack of integrity. read more

Back in the summer of 2020, like a lot of people, I found myself unable to keep up with all my debt. In an effort to be responsible and not just claim bankruptcy, I contacted Bank of America and let them know I was hiring a legal firm to negotiate my debt and gave them the name of the company etc. In March of 2021, I received a summons and had to go to court so that the court could find in the Bank's favor, represented by these guys. Well, 23 days before Christmas I receive notice that my wages are being garnished and 3 days later, I received a check almost 25% less than normal, not even enough to pay my mortgage. I was able to beg/borrow the money to pay off my debt and when I called the person I spoke to was very condescending. Then, she informed me they wait a week after payment is made to close the account, to make sure the payment goes through. In this digital age? The payment cleared my bank in two days. They have now received an additional 2 payments not owed them because they dicked around with closing my account. I can't make my mortgage payment with what I have left but are they going to cover my late fee? Of course not. I suppose if you need a bulldog to be an asshole to the people you are collecting from, then these are your guys. read more

Unethical and sketchy collection company. Company threatened to file a judgment (in 2010) on a PAID debt from 1998. My attorney wrote them a letter for unethical practices because they couldn't give me any information on what they claimed I owed from 1998 and asked them to produce account detail to justify this judgment. Never heard from them again. Now, I find out the judgement is there when attempt to refinance my house. They have no account details or information, nothing. They can't produce any proof of anything. This was paid in 1998 and they want to try collect monies already paid in 1998???? My Title company can't get anyone to answer questions or produce any documentation for weeks now. How shady is that????? Now I have to waste time and money taking them to court just to clear this from 20+ years ago. If you have any dealings with this shady company VERIFY what they claim is legit. Don't trust a word they say. I'm also filing a complaint with the FCRA. Terrible practices and NO trail of anything. They need to be shut down for unethical practices!!!! read more

This is a predator debt collector center. Ford Motor Company sold us a lemon; a 2016 Ford Focus. Since approximately 2011, Ford has known the transmissions are bad and will give out, stop, vibrate, etc. Since 2012, this transmission has been in a class action in federal court. Ford asked us to return the car, stating it would replace it with a different car--after we had made substantial payments. Instead, we have been receiving threats from this predator law firm for payments of the car Ford already has. As soon as you receive any threats from them, because they literally buy debts, just get busy and file counterclaims on the company and make them spend, spend, spend. The letter is from a sleezy person in their so-called firm named ... get this ... are you ready for it? ... Heeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrre comes! "SLEEZER!" (Kristen Sleezer an attorney to be exact.) Too bad there was not an "i" before the last "e" in her name. Contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP if they contact you. They are a collection agency. They appear to buy old debts from Capital One then obtain judgements on people to collect money even though they can be out of statute of limitations. They expect the cardholders to not respond in hopes of automatic judgement, wage garnishment, etc. They appear to be representing Capital One so they look like a large company. read more

Nelson and Kennard are not professional and need to learn how to be human beings. I was served debt collection documents and i immediately paid the whole dollar amount full to avoid any problems. About 9 years later while in the process of trying to apply for jobs on the Google Search, I noticed my first and last name vs Nelson and Kennard at the top of the list from year 2009 which was paid in full and the case was closed with confirmation. It is now December11th 2017 nine years later and the false negative web link is still there. It is first on the list for a case against me. Now any employer will see my name and a case number filed against me for a debt that was already paid and taken care of.The superior court information is also present. My background check will now look very bad for me to future employers. I paid case in full and I should never be treated like this. They will be reported to the Better Business Bureau for ruining my life. read more

You really have to watch these guys. Not only do they not follow the law, they hire inexperienced attorneys who don't know what they're doing. I was sued by them about 10 years ago. They filed suit against me for not paying a credit card bill. Unfortunately for them, I had followed legal protocol and had written to the original creditor many times disputing a portion of the bill. They never responded as is required by law and hired N&K. I answered their lawsuit, answered their discovery however, they refused to answer any of the discovery I sent them. Literally, the night before the trial, the senior partner called me and I told him I intended to be at trial the next morning and if they did not sent an atty down with a dismissal or hire local counsel to file one, I would be filing a cross complaint against them for harassment that day in court and serving them with it. Needless to say, they dismissed the suit, but that doesn't remove all the time and trouble it took for me to do the legal work. After that, I contacted their client, informed them of what this firm had done and how it harassed me and the original creditor ended up sending me a mid 4 figure settlement instead of their being named in the suit as well. My advice to anyone who's been sued by this firm is to fight them IF your case is righteous and you can defend it. If you haven't been properly served, then fight it. If you don't have the legal ability to do it yourself, then hire an atty to do it for you. It will cost you, but it may be less to pay a proper atty than to pay what they say you owe them. They're totally ignorant and my husband just got a letter from them the other day on one of his credit cards. Needles to say, the attorney hasn't even been licensed to practice law 2 years. Your first job out of law school says a lot about you and if your first job is a collection agency, you've hit the legal glass ceiling and aren't going anywhere. My advice, regardless, is to get a free consult with a local atty and work something out with the creditor, fight back if they're wrong or try to mitigate your damages financially by filling out their financial form indicating you have no income to pay them and you are judgment proof. read more
