I love creative mixes in porridge, especially where berries are involved, so I had one of the bowls. The Goji berries got my attention. They are so sweet and delicious. They have many other milk options, including coconut, which I had in my latte. I found out afterward that Haferkater is a chain. This is great news, so I can have this experience in other cities outside of Berlin.

I had bookmarked this cafe after doing some research on popular cafes in Berlin, so we decided to take a look. After ordering the Chai Chocolate which we thought sounded yummy, we were so satisfied with our choice! Food: - Chai Chocolate--€2.90 I wasn't sure what exactly the drink would be but it sounded good so I decided to order this hot drink. Boy was it a good decision! It was like a spicy hot chocolate, with sweetness from the chocolate in harmony with the fragrant spices of a chai tea. The spices they used included cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. I especially liked the consistency of the drink. It was rich and velvety and thick, just how I like my hot chocolates. Tips: - There is another location in Friedrichstraße, closer to Tiergarten if you are in that area.

German food is also quite heavy so finding this place was such a joy!! I went straight for the Japanese Bowl with it's filling of eggplant, edamame, beets, ramen and cucumber with a light miso-mayo dressing. This wasn't your ordinary ramen bowl! It was a fanciful bowl that played "light" and "hearty" in the same mix that made for a super tasty bowl of healthy eats. Hubby had the Protein Bowl with quinoa, beets, almonds, chili and brocolli. I preferred mine over his although his was exactly what he needed as far a nutrition. These two bowls were so refreshing and light but hearty enough to get full. Best part: every piece of the meal was healthy and worked together. I honestly could have eaten here every day just to sample the rest of the menu. You can add, delete, customize your food choices based on whether you are gluten-free, lactose intolerant, vegan, etc. You really can't go wrong with the food choices here. There is a smoothie bar also but you place your order(s) at another counter. Indoor seating with phone chargers available at each table (I guess that's a sign of the times nowadays). Beets & Roots has a really cool, laid back vibe with great customer service! I loved that the menu was decipherable and the staff was eager to help us customize our order. Staff was super friendly and funny!

They have been closed for rennovations and just opened again recently, so I'm glad I got to stop by here while on vacation. The restaurant was pretty packed on a Saturday evening, but we were able to grab the other end of a long table to eat at. They currently don't have any menus in English, but the waitress was happy to explain dishes we couldn't understand. The menu is filled with some starters, tapas, burgers, and desserts. We decided to share a variety of items and got 3 tapas (fried chicken, pulled pork, and bao bun) and the triple cheeseburger with bacon. Out of the 3 tapas, I enjoyed the fried chicken the most. It was moist, fried nicely, and not oily. The coleslaw that accompanied it was also good. The pulled pork was also tasty, but I wasn't a huge fan of pairing it with humus. My least favorite was the bao bun. I thought the bun was way too thick...so thick I actually thought it was 2 buns stuck together. The pork however was cooked well and very tender. I enjoyed the triple cheeseburger with bacon. I liked how the burger came out medium rare on a sizzling pan. We left it on there a few minutes and enjoyed eating it medium-medium well. The bacon, guacamole, lettuce, and tomatoes were also on the side, so you can add as much or as little to your burger as you liked. It was definitely customizable! I washed my food down with a mojito, which was just okay. A little too much mint for my liking. I probably should have just ordered from their beer menu! Service was great, with our two waitresses being rather attentive throughout our meal. They happy gave C some paper and crayons/colored pens when he asked for them.

Coming back to food - you find things on the menu which you usually don't easily find in Berlin, such as southern fried chicken or corn fritters. We had the latter, which was great.
