The free museum inside the building has Norfolk history, battleship history, port of VA info, and naval history. There are many interactive exhibits. The building is temperature controlled with clean bathrooms. Parking at the garage across the street is free for the first 2 hours. If you do the ship, you will need more than 2 hours but the hourly rate at the garage is reasonable

First thing I have to say... This is not Gordon Ramseys Restaurant, so please don't get excited to…read morego and be mad when it's not him. I will say? Cheaper prices for SURE lol. I go to HK too many times. The place is everything you can ask for in a bar. Cheap drinks, great food, happy hour damn near all day and the staff are always nice. They are always playing good music, going thru their slideshow on the tv with everyone up there (except me for some reason), or they got the game on and everyone is feening for a spot at the bar. When I work in downtown they are always a viable option for food and when I'm out on the weekends they are the place to go for a nice drink and maybe a pre snack before the main event of the night or the food that's gonna get me through until I get home from a great night. Also! They have daily deals! Monday they have Pizza and Wine half off, Tuesday they have margs for cheap and some tacos and quesadillas on sale, Wednesday is Steak Dinner Date night (2 for $22 bucks you can't beat that anywhere), and Thursday is the day you'll see me for burger night with $2 PBRs. Haven't been to HK yet? Then you're missing out. If you have been and didn't like it? You gotta try again something must've been wrong with you that day. If you're like me and go all the time? Then come say hi next time and shoot if you're cool I'll even say hi back! haha!

Absolutely loved my first visit to Coalescence Coffee! This spot is more than just a coffee shop…read more It's a nonprofit community hub where everyone's welcome, and you really feel that vibe the moment you walk in. There's tons of space for remote work, community meetings, or just hanging out, and I noticed several groups using the open, airy cafe for coworking and conversation. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. I ordered the Monticello breakfast sandwich (with sausage, egg, cheddar, arugula, and a delicious aioli on an English muffin) and their Brown Sugar No. 05. A creative blend of brown sugar, rosemary, cinnamon, espresso, milk, and a hint of orange bitters. It was unique, refreshing, and seriously addicting! My friend went for the brown sugar latte and a blueberry bagel with cream cheese, which she loved. I was so interested in their nonprofit work, and after a quick website visit, I learned that Coalescence creates space for all kinds of community groups to gather and learn together, partnering locally and globally to lift up important work. Events, co-working, and shared community workspace are all available, with donors and volunteers supporting the mission so this resource keeps growing. If you're looking for great coffee, delicious food, or just a welcoming place to connect, this is it. Can't wait to come back!

Coming from Philly with the oldest zoo in the nation, I have to give credit where it is due…read more The VA zoo is a nice little zoo. Limited with their animals but a worthwhile experience. Laid out in zones with boardwalk style pathways you will find zebras, a bear, lions, rhinoceros, orangutans , giraffes, meerkats, reptiles, tortoises, turtles and more. While there are no elephants, hippos, camels, or larger primates they do have a nice assembly of animals. The otters and meerkats were especially active during our visit, playing and put on quite a show for us. It took us roughly 2 hours or so to walk the zoo and could have easily stayed longer if the heat was not so oppressive. Many of the animals were seeking relief from the heat as well and hiding so we missed out on the red pandas, cheetah, and some others. While vacationing it's important to know where your excursion dollars are going and what value the experience will hold. The VA zoo receives a two thumbs up and recommendation from me

The zoo offers discounted tickets to special events for members and even has an event where you can bring your dog! I really enjoy that this zoo offers plenty of different species of animals and wide open areas for kids to explore. A train is normally running and the exhibits have wide trails with plenty of viewing platforms and windows. The staff is always friendly and they have a robust gift shop. I haven't personally ever tried their food but they offer a few cafes and dipping dots throughout the park.
