He takes the time to listen to what you have to say and really puts into thought. When there is something wrong he explains everything in detail so you can understand everything he is talking about! Dr. Ochi , is a great nephrologist who truly knows his stuff! I have a few times that when something was wrong about my kidneys or protein spillage, he was on top of it, no matter what day or time! I'm mean that too! He had gotten some lab work sent to him in the evening, and he immediately called me about the problem. He didn't Waite for the next business day,he took it upon himself to call right then , no matter the time, which it was past his working hours. I really appreciate his caring and concern for his patients! His very patient with his patients and shows that he really wants help you feel better! My husband and I am so glad that we have Dr. Rex Ochi for our nephrologist! I would never trade him for another nephrologist! I have seen quite a few nephrologist in my 33 years of having kidney disease and I absolutely love Dr. Ochi. She indicated that it was a bit premature for my primary care doctor to get a nephrology consult because she thought she should have waited 6 months to see if my lab work changed ( my GFR dropped by 12 from the end of September to the beginning of December). According to my primary care doctor, and all the data I read through, 3 months was the standard I repeatedly read about for making a definitive diagnosis of Stage 3 Kidney Disease. She kind of rolled her eyes when she said that my GFR was barely below normal back when my PCP initially diagnosed me with kidney disease. I was very afraid when my labs came back worse in December, and my PCP wrote for an emergent consult to a nephrologist up here where I live. I should have gone to that one. However, I wanted to stay with a provider who would be in the same healthcare system, so I requested to get a consult at the Polyclinic instead. Dr Nakamoto very definitely minimized my condition and seemed completely unconcerned. Would she have preferred that I wait until I needed dialysis to see her? Also, after she repeatedly reassured me that my kidneys were fine, I asked her to prescribe me a diuretic for my leg swelling---and she told me NO---because It would be dangerous to my kidneys since I have kidney disease!!!! What??!!! I definitely would NOT recommend her.
