If you have or had thyroid cancer, Dr. Davies is NOT an endocrinologist to see. He was not tracking my health, my medication or labs and his office lost one of my blood labs. I felt off on my dose. He said my blood labs were fine. See you in a year. I pushed back on him. He forgot I had thyroid cancer and I had to remind him. He then realized they were way off and my medicine needed to be increased! Why should I have to remind my endocrinologist about my existing condition???? Dr. Davies actually wrote me three prescriptions in two weeks to improve my TSH levels. First he wrote it for the wrong brand and then he realized he wrote it for too high of a dosage increase. (My pharmacy had to argue with the insurance company to get it filled correctly in such a short period of time. They had to explain it was physician error.) The most disturbing thing was that I learned that he was NOT following the thyroid cancer guidelines for TSH maintenance for thyroid cancer patients- which were updated in 2009. He was keeping me too low- which research shows causes cardio issues and bone loss. I had the guidelines sent to Dr. Davies by the thyca association.to hopefully make him more educated for the care of other patients. So if you have him for thyroid cancer (and you don't want to RUN from his care) - I suggest you educate yourself on the thyca guidelines at thyca.org and track your own labs! I have found a new physician at the polyclinic and I am much happier. My dose of Synthroid makes me feel much better; the physicians are more educated, personable and they have a more buttoned up then his office! They are highly responsive and communicate with my primary care doctor. read more

I liked Dr. Davies straight forward demeanor. He was blunt, to the point and didn't waste time. He gave me his initial thoughts, and said I probably didn't need testing. But he did as I requested and ordered the tests I wanted. He was a little late getting back to me with results, but perhaps I should have called as well. All in all, he is a great doctor, and I would gladly recommend him. UPDATE: I have been going to Dr. Davies for sometime now and every time I like him more. I think that perhaps the first time you see him (as with many Doctors), he wasn't as invested, but as I've kept seeing him for treatment everything all around has improved. His office offers My Chart, which lets you make appointments online, review your test results online and ask questions (all of which I have done, with quick results). Dr. Davies also dictates his patient notes in front of the patient at the end of the visit, which is nice to know. Highly recommend this doctor if you are looking for a rock star endocrinologist. read more

I have been seeing Dr Davies for a little over a year now. I will agree with other post, he has not been rude but he is blunt, I'm from East coast and known to be blunt also so it does not bother me to much. My circumstances may be different but it may tell others that this doctor tries harder than any other doctor I know. I am LEGALLY BLIND, he has made it a point to write specific notes in the chart before I leave the room, that way everything I need can be looked up immediately and I can see it all. I wish I could say everything has been great, no it has not. I today have a prescription problem, not doctors issue, but I can only get prescriptions in a specific pharmacy and somehow they have the wrong one in my chart, I have emailed for a correction but it has not happened yet again, staff issue not doctors. Is my health better, I don't know he tries. The main issue diabetes shows levels that are still high, but then again my body decided this year to fight some of the meds and we have been changing them around for an answer. But other test show improvement, my kidney and liver show improvement, not normal yet but going towards normal, so better. Dr Davies listens, he put me on meds that would cause me to gain weight after I lost 35 pounds I was watching it all come back on. We spoke he listened and we compromised, yes the meds put back on 15 pounds but I still keep 20 off and the meds are working better. Now we have to find another med to add that will not make me gain weight and get my levels lower. I have a lot more appreciation for this doctor who does try to work with the body and mind and person and treat them all rather than just say here is the pill that will help who cares if you gain weight. So progress is slower by my choice, I want to get to my goal and not gain weight because weight causes my cancer to activate also as well as iabetes. Can't find a better doctor. read more

Let me put it plainly: You will NOT find a better endocrinologist in Washington state. You'd be hard pressed to find many with his knowledge anywhere. He knows multitudes more than most yet knows his limitations--he knows which areas are not his to treat and will tell you so. If he had chosen to be a car mechanic instead of a human one, he'd be one that NASCAR racers would swoon over and compete to hire, FACT. The real magic of Dr Davies is in his ability and thoroughness with blood work and other objective data. He keeps every single item in mind while not simply handling people like they are robots. Every handshake and hello is pleasant and considerate; maybe his nerdy scientific brain isn't as oh, sweeetie, I'm so sorrrry as people oozing with empathy, but frankly, if I had to choose what to have an excess of in any doc, I'd choose expertise and thoroughness, not dripping sweet mannerisms that don't get numbers in line and systems optimized. I think his lack of drooly super duper sorrow for patients is this weird thing called respect. Even as a kid, I felt like that was a sort of mockery like someone patting you on the head because you can't understand big things like anatomy. He speaks to his patients with integrity and respect. He doesn't downplay issues OR make minor/insignificant things the end of the world. If you're a hypochondriac, he may not dramatize enough for you. He treats bodies like complex machines that need to be well-oiled, maintained around the clock, and occasionally fixed with more than just a patch here and there. He's focused on real repair&optimization, not just symptom-masking. What stands out most is the SKILL and sheer KNOWLEDGE-his brain's a meta-database!-that even his colleagues respectfully fail to deliver on. I endured one of those colleagues, my numbers wonky & me feeling chronically crappy before bam, the right medicine got tweaked and, for maintenance of ALL systems, I went on Vitamin D because thanks, Seattle, said the milk chugger to the gray skies when her calcium levels dropped not because of low intake but because moving from a sunny happy place to here, my body couldn't keep up. Turns out my body needed a really HIGH amount of D--double a normal Rx to put my blood levels in the higher range within normal, which most MDs are too scared to consider, and the thoroughness proof came in checking (24 hour urine collection, fun!) to be sure I wasn't losing calcium through my kidneys, to be totally sure it was just a matter of getting enough D to make it stay put and stick. I'll part with this: the last time I saw him was a 3-month followup, which is our norm, and finally, after months of tweaking 0.1mg at a time (literally), I not only stopped having my blood pressure drop, which made me pretty wiped out, but he finally mentioned a test that he'd been quietly monitoring, one that matters but that was secondary to getting to regulating BP (yay adrenals, you stressaphobes!) and even for a while secondary to getting my calcium optimal since small females with broken bones in their history are just waiting for osteopenia (which I had for a while after my casts came off, a long 6 months to atrophy). I finally went in, saying yay, BP hasn't had any issues, hurrah! What do you know? Mad scientist over there, hands rubbing slowly, methodically, while his computer screen transformed into a temporary set of bubbling beakers, revealed that this was my first time having that particular test in normal range... validation doesn't hurt, no matter how sure you are this person's right/wrong in their assessment. I really appreciate that he doesn't try this instant fix system of "let's make them shut up" methods like giving too much or upping doses too soon. It's taken a while to get everything exactly right, but you know what? I didn't go through nearly the kind of awful side effect frenzy other doctors have caused with wham bam next patient methodologies. He may "only" see people 15 minutes in the office for followups (more if there's something new that is problematic), but every minute counts; he spends hours outside that visit going through lab work, researching to be sure he's up to date, and checking with your other docs to be sure he's on the same page & isn't going to interfere with other treatments you may have, not to mention to know if there's a risk for conditions he isn't an expert regarding. This may seem like we're paying too much for too little time, but face it, this is better for all of us because if he can focus and deliberate in silence and call us later, so we spend less time waiting around and watching him work, likewise waiting around while others watch him. I think he's probably the only doctor I've seen in town that has a truly efficient EFFECTIVE system. A decent number are effective, and plenty are efficient. Usually those things compete to exist. He made it work. I urge anyone with complex issues to let him take a look at your machinery. read more

Dr. Davies is the best doctor I have ever seen and one of the nicest people I have ever met. After being the subject of emotional and sexual abuse, I gained around 80 pounds. I knew a lot of it was stress and wondered if the stress on my body could be helped or reversed by going to see an Endocrinologist. By the time of my appointment, I had managed to lose 15 pounds. Dr. Davies made me feel like a million bucks, like a person of worth again, because I had stemmed the tide, was no longer gaining and had started to lose weight. His encouragement at that appointment changed my whole outlook. He took time to explain a lot about how fat stores works, gave me a diet plan, encouraged me to keep working out (I was working out about ten hours a week) etc,. His single best piece of advice? After the trauma and abuse, I needed to regain a sense of control over my life - to be my own person again and control my own destiny. Following that advice and his other has helped me lose 38 pounds in eight months, and I am 19 pounds away from being healthy again and 29 away from my goal. I couldn't have done it without Dr. Davies. He is a saint and will always have my deep respect and gratitude. Now time to get down to my goal and buy a bikini! read more

I was a patient for five years. I felt Dr. Davies was very knowledgeable but not personable. Appointments were always 15 minutes in length and consisted of him asking me how I felt and then him telling me that my numbers were out of whack, changing doses and then coming back in a year to re-evaluate. I felt that the lab result numbers were always more important than how I was feeling or symptoms I was describing. A year is a long time to wait to know if things are working. My hope was to have my hormones stabilize and to become pregnant. Neither of these things occurred during those five years. I have been going to Dr. Davies since I was diagnosed as diabetic seven years ago. He explained the process of insulin resistance and what was going on, how each different medication interacted. He has always been direct and accurate. He has also told me clearly what were MY decisions to make. After 2 years of treatment I ended up sicker than when I first went to him. He should work in a lab, not with patients. He deflects questions, tends to lecture. He did not listen to my concerns. After following his instructions, my body is so out of balance I wouldn't let him prescribe a vitamin pill. He did not explain options and would not discuss a likely outcome of weight gain.
