Dr. Murray himself is wonderful and I have seen him for many years but the current support staff is truly awful. I have waited on hold for literally hours, and then when you finally speak with someone they tell you there's nothing they can do about an issue because they "work from home." Umm.. what?? They are inefficient, horrible at their jobs (customer service) and seem to not understand how to be proactive when dealing with people who are sick and needing a doctor's care. I spoke with a few different receptionists and reached out online, and still my issue was never resolved, nor was it escalated to someone who could help resolve it. Without going into a lot of detail about my health or diagnosis, this review is solely based on the care I've received from Dr. Murray. I have been seeing Dr. Murray since 2010 after being professionally referred by my ND. At the time, Dr. Murray was not seeing new patients, so we needed a written letter of referral along with discernible blood tests. My ND inferred that Dr. Murray was the best, so we did our due diligence until I could secure an appointment with his office. Dr. Murray's office is located on the seventh floor of the Polyclinic in Seattle. Right off of the I-5 James street exit. Convenient parking garages located right onsite. Blood labs for testing are on the second floor. Pharmacy and restaurant are in the lobby for additional convenience. Everything about the building is turnkey. Over the last eight years, I have always received competent and compassionate care. Dr. Murray's office is most often times running on time with little wait time. The office staff have always been nothing less than helpful and professional. I almost always come in with a laundry list of questions and my concerns are addressed and answered with a knowledgeable patience. Dr. Murray truly listens and has a friendly, professional bedside manner. He is well versed and highly educated in the Endocrinology field and is on the cutting edge of implementing new techniques many other Endos write off as "nothings wrong". This is Dr. Murray's greatest gift: practicing medicine with commonsensical intuition. I feel that I am in excellent care and trust Dr. Murray 100% with my healthcare decisions. This doctor is an old school synthroid pusher, who thinks patients who learn about their condition are reading "crazy stuff on the internet". Even when presented with 10yrs of my medical history he ignored the tests and documents and proceeded to decide what he wanted to do was best and toss out both my warnings and my allergies in my charts and prescribed a drug I'm allergic to. If you're like me (hashi's) and care anything about your health and wellness avoid this doctor that I had to fire. Apparently new medical evidence and anything that contradicts his process is to be ignored in his mind. I do have to give credit in that he is excellent in making money for Polyclinic by ordering expensive repeat tests and unnecessary CT scans to a hefty profit. It's his true skillset. I had been seeing Dr. Murray for a short while, because I was diagnosed with an autoimmune hypothroid problem, when an insurance health exam indicated high glucose levels. How lucky! I was already seeing the "best endocrinologist in Washington state"! I went in for a checkup and told him the results of the exam and he responded "Lose 20 lbs, you'll be fine." I was a bit shocked at the cavalier answer, to say the least. Yes, I was a bit overweight but not enough to have what was being suspected as Type 2 diabetes (since I was 35 at the time and had no family history of Type 1). I decided I needed another opinion and went to the Diabetes Center at UW on Roosevelt. Dr. DeSantis really sat down and talked with me and said "you don't look type 2, your body doesn't act type 2" and after some tests and more discussion, he started treating me for Type 1. Come to find out I have what is now known as Late Onset Type 1. No matter how many pounds I lost, I would never have been "fine" per Dr. Murray's remark... in fact, I could be dead if I'd followed that advice. I share this story as a warning to everyone, please do not allow yourself or your health issues, to get dismissed by anyone who only looks at you from the outside and just sees someone overweight. read more

This guy is GREATLY overrated. Perhaps he earned his accolades honestly and is now just senescent--or worse! But I have been seeing him for at least a couple of years now. My presenting complaint was lack of libido and ED. My testosterone level was low. He assured me that all would be well if my hypothyroidism (from which I *DO* suffer) was treated successfully. Here is a brief tutorial on male sexuality. The hypothalamus (and the pituitary gland) both monitor one's androgen (and estrogen) levels. If the hypothalamus determines that one's testosterone level is low, it sends a chemical called Gonadatropin Releasing Hormone to the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland then releases Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Lutenizing Hormone (LH) to the testes, commanding them to produce spermatoza and testosterone, respectively. In my case, ever since I started adhering to the medication regimen prescribed by Murray, BOTH my FSH *AND* my LH remained SKY HIGH! Yet, my testosterone levels remained LOW! What does this OBVIOUSLY indicate?! It indicates PRIMARY TESTICULAR FAILURE! NO amount of monkeying around with my endocrine system could POSSIBLY correct this problem. The only answer is to ingest exogenous testosterone. The last time I consulted Murray, he declared that my testosterone level was supranormal--which it probably WAS at them time at which my blood sample was taken!--since my blood sample was taken three days after I had per my urologist's directions injected myself with the prescribed dose of testosterone cipionate. That is PRECISELY the point in time at which one's testosterone level would be expected to be AT ITS PEAK! Moreover, exogenous testosterone has a half-life of eight days or so! Therefore, following my urologist's prescribed regimen, my testosterone level would be within normal range five days per week or so. Murray told me that CONTRA my urologist's prescribed regimen, I ought to REDUCE the quantity of testosterone I was injecting. This man OBVIOUSLY can't distinguish between PRIMARY and SECONDARY hypogonadism. Moreover, like many middle-aged males, I have a (fairly mild but annoying) case of gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts). There's no FDA-approved medication for that--but there is a considerable literature that strongly supports the hypothesis that the administration of a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) such as Tamoxifen is effective! And THAT therefore could obviate the possible future need for surgery to eliminate unwanted and unnatural excessive male breast tissue! Murray was having NONE of THAT! Despite the fact that I had done my homework and CLEARLY knew FAR more about ANY of this whole story than did he! And regarding my gynecomastia, he did a Google search--WHILE I WAS IN HIS OFFICE!--and found some posts that claimed that even moderate consumption of ethanol could be the culprit! As far as I can tell, that is only true if one's liver function has been compromised--which mine is NOT! He concluded with an absolutely absurd RANT claiming that consuming ANY amount of ethanol was unhealthy! He obviously NEVER studied toxicology!--the first principle of which is that "It's the DOSE that makes the poison"! I STRONGLY recommend that one ought to avoid this "Doctor Google" at ALL COSTS! I would give this arrogant ignoramus a negative infinity rating! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Murray's since 2005 after a whirlwind of health scares. Following a miserable experience with another endocrinologist (she's no longer there) whose office was adjacent to Dr. Murray's, I was a little reluctant but hopeful. He confirmed a diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease and prescribed me medication that improved my health tremendously. My initial interaction with him was worth five stars. In the last two years I think I have outgrown Dr. Murray. The issues I'm now looking to improve, I think, require some alternative thinking, and Dr. Murray is pretty much a straight-up allopathic physician. He's a very smart guy, but a 15-minute or less appointment time isn't enough to help me manage my remaining symptoms. Three stars. So, with an average four-star experience, I would not hesitate recommending Dr. Murray to those who suspect they might have a thyroid disorder and who need a diagnosis. For those who have been trying to manage thyroid conditions for some time and who need extra assistance, I would suggest they consult naturopathic physicians and to do some more reading - books by Mary Shomon, and Richard & Karilee Shames, to start. read more

I initially wanted to see Dr. Murray, but the staff talked me into seeing his colleague Dr. Williams. I didn't like my experience with Dr. Williams and requested to see Dr. Murray, my initial choice. They refused saying he doesn't accept internal transfers. Sorry Dr. Murray but Dr. Williams did not have the experience to help me and based on a specific review on yelp mentioning you don't blow people off that are in 'range', I feel you would have been able to help me much better. read more

For those of you with Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism looking for a doctor who won't dismiss your symptoms as a "crazy talk", this is not the right doctor for you. I was told that my blood test is fine, and if I am still feeling unwell I should go see my general practitioner cause it's not Dr. Murray's job to investigate why. A diet? Dr. Robert Murray is an amazing endocrinologist. He is my 6th endocrinologist since I was diagnosed with Graves in 2012 (I lived in 4 different cities since then), and he most definitely falls in the league with our nation's top doctors in the field (e.g., I used to be seen by the head of the thyroid clinic at Johns Hopkins). I came to him after a relapse of Graves after a year-long remission, and his incredible care, attention to detail, extensive experience treating thyroid disorder patients, and care have helped me normalize my labs within 6 months. I always come prepared with several questions, and he is very patient and thorough in answering them. He also ran a test that no other doctor thought to run before, which uncovered some important factors for my treatment. I am counting my lucky stars that I found him. Both my husband, daughter and I see Dr Murray. What I love about him is he stays abreast of new research related to thyroid, which many doctors do not do. I went to another Endocrinologist in Seattle and he told me I had no problems and I wanted to flee the office the experience was so horrid. The doctor really didn't listen and didn't care. Dr. Murray took the time to listen, to test thoroughly everything, and found that not only was my T4 off, but also my T3 levels. That was something no one else had discovered. I've been seeing Dr. Murray for over 20 years for a thyroid problem. Once we seemed to have everything under control, I attempted to have a primary care physician manage it, but had the same experience others have mentioned: felt terrible, was told "doctor says you're fine." Went back to Murray after that, and have stayed with him ever since. During times when my thyroid has been acting up and unstable, Dr. Murray listens and has been available for check-ins. Oh how I miss Dr. Murray. I was a patient for 14 years. 2 years ago I moved to the Bay Area. I stayed on my dose that I had been on in Seattle (Dr. Murray fine tuned it). I was having problems with depression/anxiety (I had a head injury and stroke 4 years ago and haven't been the same since). Anyway, my doctor yanked me off my thyroid meds in April and guess what? I feel worse and have gained 24 lbs. After pleading with my primary care to send me to an endo (he wouldn't) but finally agreed to let me on my thyroid meds. I had years of my thyroid testing ok Dr. Brown and Dr. Murray discovered I had an unusal auto immune thyroid issue. When I wanted to do Armour thyroid meds he explained to me why that would not work well for me BUT he is the one who checked T-3 and T-4 and adding the other med changed my life. I have referred others to him also and he is really good I have gone to him for so many years I cannot remember when I started, but he has adjusted my meds to keep me on track and listens to what I am saying. read more

I started seeing Dr. Murray since February of 2015, my first impression of him was that he was very thorough, listened intently and very intelligent in his field of expertise. I had a thyroidectomy two years prior and was seeing another Endo on the hill for a year and nine months. He could not stabilize my symptoms, and in my opinion was irresponsible in his lack of care. My first visit with Dr. Murray was incredibly positive, he viewed my labs from the previous endocrinologist, ordered new labs and called me five hours later, yes, five hours later and changed the dosage of my meds to start on the following day. I felt a big difference the day I started on the new dosage; I went from not being able to function and so lethargic to actually exercising daily just one month after starting on the new med dosage. Dr. Murray believes in treating the symptoms, and not just the numbers. I enjoy seeing him--he seems to be a wonderful person who really cares about what is going on in my life, whether or not it is related to health. I was referred to Dr. Murray by Dr. Cassius, a friend of his, also located in Seattle. It is my understanding that Dr. Murray is not taking new clients, unless referred by certain doctors. I would take the time to seek out a referral to Dr. Murray because he is brilliant and he really listens to his patients concerns. I kept telling my regular doctor that I had a low thyroid (a naturopath years ago told me I did, but I stopped going to her for other reasons, although when on the thyroid hormones she gave me, i felt so much better!) but my thyroid was "on the low side of normal". I had every symptom of low thyroid, though, but I guess that doesn't matter. Now I am on a low dose of hormones, feel great, and know that Dr. Murray is doing a great job watching my blood levels. Dr. Murray also understands how Vit. D deficiencies (very common in our area) can cause terrible muscle spasms and pain and he checks and treats for that. I think he is ahead of most in his field because he is on top of the most current research, whether or not the research points to beliefs long held by the medical system. read more

Dr Robert W Murray changed my pharmacy to Medco without my permission. When I asked his office why they changed the pharmacy without my permission, Dr Murray became very arrogant and decided to discontinue seeing me as a patient because I refused to accept Medco as my pharmacy. It made me wonder what was in it for him to change my pharmacy from QFC pharmacy to a big corporation like Medco. After he behaved this way I realized I couldn't trust him as a doctor anyway so I didn't even try change his mind and in fact I will be lodging a complaint with the American Medical Association. On hindsight it was probably for the best. I've come to realize that his consultation with me is limited to telling me what my TSH results are, should I increase or decrease my meds which my very good internist could just as well advise me. If I tried to bring my other non-thyroid endocrinological issues, it seems to be outside his comfort zone and he would brush them off or decline to discuss. I feel he does not behave like an endocrinologist more like a thyroid specialist. read more
