Although I travel the service drive often, I don't see any business traffic for this funeral home because the entrance and parking lot are in the back of the building away from the service drive. Haley was the provider for services for my dear neighbor recently. For his viewing at the funeral home, the Haley staff members greeted us upon entering and directed us to the correct parlor. The beautiful parlor was full of family members and well wishers. The video playing with various photos of my neighbor with his family and acquaintances was a nice touch. Outside of the parlor was a memorial display for veterans that have transitioned or never returned. It caught my attention and it was a great reminder of those who have served our country. I do recommend that the tablecloth be ironed to provide a better visual.

But later, showed his true colors when we changed our mind about the type of casket for my Dad. I was so shocked that a funeral director, of all professions, could behave the way he did. There were some errors during the service. But all would have been forgiven, because we're all human and imperfect. But, again his behavior regarding the change is unforgivable. I would Not Recommend Haley.

It was not only the middle of the night, but it was a cold, sub-zero, snowy night as well. Alan Dorfman sent some people out to the house to get her and also arranged to meet us later in the day on Saturday to discuss the arrangements. We found Alan Dorfman to be kind and understanding, with just the right touch of humor to lighten the mood. He also had the records from our grandmother, over a decade earlier, so he was able to just copy some of the information. My mother wanted to be cremated, so there was no urgency in terms of a service, and no need for a casket. He helped us to decide on the kind of memorial we wanted, told us that we could do it when we were ready, and that we could take a couple days to decide. He also recommended a videographer to put pictures on DVDs. (It was nice, but the videographer didn't seem to know much about the technology he was working with.) Jonathan Dorfman was very patient with us in regards to the obituary. We made changes to it several times. He posted online everything we originally said, but advised us that the same would be very expensive to post in the newspapers, and made suggestions for shortening what we wanted to print. We followed his advice and it saved us several hundred dollars. We are not a traditional Jewish family and did not want any clergy, as my mother would've hated that. Alan assured us that just having friends and family speak would be fine, if that was what we wanted. He asked us about whether or not we wanted some of the traditional amenities, but since we were not familiar with them, we declined -- except for the 7 day memorial candle, and he gave us 2 of them, since my sister & I live in different places. At a very somber, confusing and overwhelming time, Dorfman Chapel will treat you and your loved ones with dignity, grace and compassion.

Highly pleased with our experience in dealing with the funeral arrangements for a family member…read more McCabe's staff, in particular Anne the funeral director, were so nice and caring during this difficult time and worked with us to provide the exact funeral arrangements that our family member requested. There was no pushing back or trying to alter her requested funeral arrangements, but instead, did what was required to meet her request. Also, they work behind the scenes to take care many of the big/small details like cremation authorizations, notifying social security to turn off payments, getting death certificates, posting obituaries and so on so you can focus your immediate attention on the funeral and going through the grieving process without adding extra burden to it. Overall They made this painful process go smoother than I would have thought going into it and am so appreciative of their efforts in assisting/leading us through this difficult period.

I telephoned Mrs. McCabe to find out the status of bringing his body back to Michigan from St. Louis because the Medical Examiner had told me that my son's body had been released to McCabe's affiliate. None of the service dates could be set until we had airline information. Instead of explaining to me that the body was released, but ME paperwork wasn't complete so they couldn't make an airline reservation, she simply said that they didn't have airline information yet. When I said that perhaps I should've used a different funeral home, she said maybe you should've! Later, I telephoned Mr. McCabe and asked him if he would give me just a $100.00 discount on my $10,864.89 bill. He told me that he could not give me a discount, otherwise, he would have to change his entire billing structure because everyone gets billed exactly the same. I told him that he could simply give those people that are smart enough to ask for a discount, a hundred dollars off, and anyone stupid enough not to ask for a discount, shouldn't receive a discount. He then accused me of calling him stupid, which I didn't and re-explained to him what I had said. Regardless, later on I heard that he was telling people that I had called him stupid. Remember, I'm mourning and burying my 24 year old child. Even if I had been as rude a possible, they are in the funeral home business and should've been gentle and compassionate with me. Not rude and argumentative. Think twice about using people who act this way towards a person in mourning and shock over their child's death.

After a lifetime of service, our family expected--at the very least--that he would be honored with dignity and respect. Instead, what we received from this funeral home and from funeral director **Stephen Kemp Jr.** was carelessness, disregard, and a level of disrespect that left our family deeply hurt. We arranged for my brother's cremation and a memorial service scheduled for **July 18th**. Mr. Kemp was responsible for ensuring that my brother received his **military honors**, a **personalized VA urn**, and a **flag**--all standard for veterans. **None of these were provided. Not one.** After the service, I called repeatedly. My messages were ignored. At one point, I was placed on hold for **20 minutes**, and no one ever picked up. When I called back, Tracy told me someone would return my call. Eventually, Mr. Kemp responded and claimed he had the date down as **July 22nd**--a date that was never discussed and had no connection to anything we planned. When I went to pick up my brother's ashes, Mr. Kemp told me that if I wanted my brother's honors, I could "go to a veteran cemetery and have the honors done there." **I was shocked and devastated.** After everything my brother gave to this country, this was the solution offered to us? They had asked for my brother's photo for the personalized urn, and I provided it immediately. To discover that not only was the urn not prepared, but every promised honor was ignored--it felt like the ball wasn't just dropped, it was shattered. Mr. Kemp then suggested that *I* go to a veterans cemetery on my own to fix *his* mistake. When I returned to pick up my brother's ashes, he apologized, handed me a flag, and said the certificate and honors would be handled "through the mail." **To say I was emotionally traumatized by his lack of empathy is an understatement.** It felt that the respect due to a veteran depended on how much money was spent. I paid for services that were never provided. I trusted this funeral home to honor my brother, and instead we were left feeling dismissed, disrespected, and painfully aware that the level of care we received seemed tied to the price tag--not to my brother's service or his sacrifice.
