Our family has many family members at White Chapel Cemetery. Our family drove hours on March 11, 2026 to purchase 8 Niches in the Mausoleum for our family. The employee that handles this approached us very rudely as we were talking to the receptionist because we didn't make an appointment. He refused to give us any information at all, even availability. All he said to us "each Niche is upwards of $10,000.00 and abruptly walked away from us. We were totally aware of the pricing of the Niches and were prepared to pay cash for the 8 that we needed. Unfortunately, we will take our family members elsewhere. It's truly a shame that a cemetery business that is supposed to be compassionate with dealing with grieving families has an employee that is so disrespectful and no compassion working for their company. We buried my grandma yesterday. Our family has owned 4 plots for over 60 years, purchased when this was a wonderful, cared for cemetery. I would like to start by saying it took 4 days for someone to contact us back. We spoke with someone Thursday morning (day after her passing) and were told by the man on the other end of the phone, he would call us back. We called all afternoon Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with no response. I finally emailed on Saturday and we received a call on Monday from Randy who was extremely rude and stated "I'm returning your voicemail from Saturday". After paying for the opening/ closing, tent, and 5 chairs we scheduled for burial on Tuesday. During the call from Randy on Monday, he stated they haven't received payment. Confused we reminded them we paid in full via card. The rep said "O here's your credit card numbers on a post it, in the pile of paperwork". We arrived Tuesday to 4 chairs not 5 (she has 5 living children) and we requested 5 chairs. Two of the sibling shared a chair. The ground workers were vaping and laughing throughout the entire graveside service. When it was time to lower the vault, the straps were not secure, the vault was swinging, and the groundsmen were laughing about it. Being in the business of running a cemetery, where people are heartbroken, gathering to lay a lost loved one to rest, the employees should get it together and show some respect. this place shouldn't even get 1 star, The entire process was extremely unprofessional read more

Below is a photo of my mothers headstone. After more than a year of phone calls and requests to fix it nothing is happening. In the area where she is buried there are broken headstones and the headstone next to her is completely out of the ground. All of the headstones are less than 10 years old. An absolute disgrace... My dad and my blood are boiling. This cemetery is a joke. Majority of everyone you see is walking around looking for their loved one's grave. The owners clearly don't care about the people who are buried there. There is a map online and markers sparsely buried randomly in the grass. If you scour and watch closely you may be fortunate enough to find a marker. My dad and I walked around for 30 min before finally giving up and deciding to go back tomorrow, when the office is open. I attended a funeral service and burial of an extended family member. Part of the family had arrived at the chapel area - there was no one from the staff there to greet people. Some of the family followed the hearse in ... at that time (5 minutes prior to the service time) a staff member came in. The funeral home director got the people seated and the pastor to the podium. The mic was not turned on which made it almost impossible to hear him. A family member spoke as well... sadly, I could not hear a word she said. Then we went to the gravesite... no one led the cars ... so there was some confusion on parking. The staff that did the burial did a great job placing the casket in the burial vault. I would give a negative review if I could. My Mother passed away in January. In August it was still a mound of dirt with the headstone lopsided and no date added to her stone. After several messages, and no return calls, the receptionist told me it was done. Went out there and it was flooded due to the heavy rains. Could see through the water. It was clear they didn't level, seed and add straw as they stated. Not only did they not do it, they lied about it. Absolutely disgraceful. Prior to this I couldn't find my fathers grave in same spot to place a grave blanket. Had to get a groundskeeper out there to dig up the grass. The headstone was completely buried. This place is worse than not good. My sister and I went today, the Sunday before Memorial day, to clean up our brothers grave. This place has turned into a slum. You would thing that before Memorial Day, they would have cleaned up some, but no. Dead flowers all over the place, branches on the ground. Quart milk jugs with water at the faucets because the faucets didn't work. The grass wasn't mowed. You would think that the very least the owners would maybe weed wack around the markers then use a leaf blower to get the grass of of them. There was one marker that was not near a grave, between rows. The statues are great, but the rest of the place has gone down hill. There is a reason why many cemeteries don't allow standing gravestones: It would be very costly and time consuming to edge around 1,000s of tombstones. No one wants to have their loved ones buried in a plot that looks like a scene out of Night of the Living Dead. White Chapel does an excellent job of keeping up the appearance of the entire property. I'm only in town twice a year, and the flowers are beautiful in the summer. The grass is always mowed, and yes, when I visit, or my brother who lives in town visits, we take clippers or a mini broom to brush away the dead grass clippings. How hard is that? In the winter we place a grave blanket on my father's grave. You can buy one at their flower shop, or purchase one elsewhere. They're not cheap, but it makes it easy to find the grave site. I also like the fact that they don't allow plastic flowers and trinkets to be placed on grave sites. Keep it classy. White Chapel. read more

The worst customer service I've ever dealt with. Better yet I wish I never chose this cemetery to bury my loved one. They're too expensive on top of very spineless people running this place. I have been trying to get a grave site transferred for the last 6 months. All of the paper work Ms. Cooper requested was given to her at there office on Wilshire Blvd in Troy. She tried to claim that we never came to the office until THERE receptionist and another employee that was there at the same time had to tell her yes we were there a few days before. Ms. Cooper was very rude when I asked to speak to her boss.....still waiting on that call....with all the other places to be put to rest....you may want to think twice dealing with Ms. Cooper and White Chapel Cemetery.... read more

Long post - I would leave a negative star rating if I could. My Dad died unexpectedly so while making arrangements we called White Chapel on a Thursday afternoon (before 4pm), after not getting a call back, we called twice the next day before we actually spoke to anyone. We were told that they are short staffed and many of the staff they do have were out of the office and we would have to wait until Monday to come in. Fast forward to Monday morning, we walked in and are greeted by someone other than the person we were supposed to meet with. (She was out of the office). We were told we would have to drive around the cemetery to pick locations we were interested in. My Mother asked if there were any spots by trees available and we were told, "well we won't know until you go out there to look then I'll have to look it up at the office." So, we drove around and picked some "Gardens" that we liked, got out and talked to the man helping us (who then started following us around) and headed back to the office. When we got there, we told him which Gardens we liked and he asked if there was a "marker" (statue) in that Garden we were interested in. We said no, we thought you could tell us which plots were available and we could pick. He brings us a worthless map with the plot numbers on it then leaves and comes back only to tell us there's no empty spots available in that area..... so we pick another Garden and he leaves for about 10 min. before coming back to say there were a few spots available. We ask if he can show us where they are and he says "well I don't know, you'd have to talk to the grounds crew and they're at lunch" I had to leave the room we were in because I was very frustrated at the process and sheer waste of time. We ended up driving to the area to try to figure out where those spots were on our own. Some of the landscapers were there digging up another spot so we asked them for help. We got it situated and went back to the office. We are fully aware that this cemetery is behind in technology usage but the process has to be easier on families that are grieving. Our appointment was at 11:30, it's now 1:38.... My mom and sister are still inside. read more

They do not allow families out of their cars to watch loved ones be taking to final resting place. We had to wait in car and watch my grandmother be taken away and barrier. Once she was completely barrier we were allowed to exit vehicles. At that point we were looking at a pile of dirt. We didn't get to say out last goodbye or commemorate her with flowers like we traditionally would. Everything is grown over & driven over. I can't believe what a mess the cemetery was. I looked for an hour for my grandparents, but couldn't find them as the majority of the gravestones were covered with dead grass or grass was growing over the headstones. It really was disheartening to see what a mess things were around the whole cemetery. A big reason people have their loved ones buried in a cemetery is so that they can be visited by relatives. It's hard to visit them if you can't find them. There is a map online and markers randomly buried in the grass. The markers are very hard to find as they are not visible when walking down the paths. It would be much more helpful if they marked the areas with visible signs that aren't pushed in the ground & can't see them until you just happen to stumble upon it. I definitely would not recommend this cemetery to anybody. read more

Roads are horrible. The place has completely fallen apart. The staff is unbelievably rude and insensitive. They have made an already extremely stressful experience even more stressful and upsetting. They are not up to date on current state policies and are extremely rude about the entire process. Every time we have been in the office we have been met with cold shoulders and unfriendliness. I don't know if it's the owner we communicate with or not, but whoever it is should be fired and replaced with someone who has the right kind of attitude and empathy for such a difficult business. This is a beautiful, well kept Cemetery. Both of my Grandparents (respectively) are now buried here, as of today. You can see it from I-75 as you drive south, and it's really well maintained. Lush green grass, plenty of places to park and walk around, along with a chapel, Tombstones and many other things. I don't come here often, but I do for visiting purposes, and did my first funeral (in person) at this Cemetery. This is the worst cemetery to bury a loved one. No dignity, no care for the graves, headstones are left everywhere,grass is null, all weeds, or dirt is caving in. Covid was worst time to have a funeral. I had to stand on a board, for priest to bless the grave while It was raining, with no tent provided. Trackers ride over headstones, workers are lazy. They just stopped doing what they are working on, an sit there. No one wants to do their job. The won't allow you to plant anything around your love ones graves. They pull them out as soon as you leave. All other cemeteries are someone much more beautiful, an others care much more, for their property.This is the worst! My family has called many times to fix's things, out of respect for the dead. All they care about is getting the $ for plots. This cemetery is the worst! No recommendations for this cemetery! They continuously damage markers and gravesite while doing burials or maintenance. In fact, our markers were even moved to a nearby grave site for another burial and they left our markers on someone else's site for months. After numerous calls to the office and manager after months of waiting for repairs to our families site marker and grounds around the burial site, we finally bought the lawn materials to repair the sites ourselves. Went there looking for the grave of DMC founder John Delorean. After about 15 minutes of looking we found it. It's a little hard here as in stead of headstones they have the metal plaques that sink into the ground. I'm guessing families around here don't check on the graves often because some of them were pretty over grown. It's an interesting lay out with some neat monuments, like the one by the mausoleum for the polar bear soldiers of world war 1. I think kavorkian is somewhere in there too. Not sure. read more

I took my 88 year old mother to visit my dads grave: Conditions were terrible: 1. The grounds were damaged by heavy equipment throughout the north central portion of the grounds. 2. Chris D is right on track with his point about the mowing. In a "Life After People" White Chapel would be the biggest plot of green grass around. Of course, the headstones would be completely invisible to the next batch of people to occupy the earth because they would have sunk down to invisibility. To illustrate how bad this is, I stood 6 feet to the left of my own Fathers gravestone and couldn't find it because the grass and leaves had completely covered it. While I appreciate that they desire consistency (no standing gravestones) clearly there was a reason people started putting gravestones on markers that stood ABOVE ground. While many of the decisions to be buried here may have been made long before, I could not recommend to anyone that they START here as the Cemetery of choice. I would suggest finding somewhere that isn't going to let the earth grow over your gravestone under a finely mowed lawn. read more

Although this is a beautiful cemetery, where I, unfortunately, have multiple close family buried, I had an experience here Mother's day 2016 that changed my views on the place. Elaborating: drove in to the cemetery on mother's day, ~6pm. The entrance gate was open on one side. Proceeded in my truck and abruptly comes some older gentleman in a minivan, literally yelling at me saying they closed a short while ago and asked me if I "...knew how to read English", or maybe "they didn't teach me English at that foreign school I went to", not even exaggerating. I apologized and explained that the sign didn't convey they were closed... Ultimately he drove off after firing off a few more racist/derogatory phrases. I hope he doesn't hold a position of power. I've never in my life felt as though someone was blatantly racist toward me. This was the only time. I am of middle eastern descent, for what it's worth. I had to share this terrible experience. How do I even begin to review a cemetery? First off, my grandparents and some of their parents are buried here. White Chapel has done an A PLUS job of keeping those little plots mowed. However, I have to go and do the trowel work to keep the grass from growing all the way over their stones. Well done, White Chapel! On the deed for those grave plots, from the 50's, it specifies that only caucasian people can be interred here. Today, they tell me, that's not the rule anymore. Way to keep up with the times! Again, good job. Interacting with the staff here has always been easy. They're friendly. Sadly, they have no computers in the office, so the process of ordering a grave marker is harder than it needs to be. But hey, what are you gonna do? Can't believe nobody has reviewed this place. It is a beautiful cemetery, well kept, but... I had hassles getting my father's deed, cost over $200 to have it transferred to him and another charge for the actual deed, which they didn't even ask for when he was buried. The "extras" are insane! Average cost to open/close a grave is $1,000, it was $1,300 at White Chapel. My father was a veteran, so he is eligible for a government grave marker, the average installation cost for a grave marker is $200, it is $432 at White Chapel. The upside? I have learned from this experience just how crooked the cemetery business is, funeral homes have more regulation than cemeteries, I think that both need it. read more

White Chapel is an ENORMOUS cemetery. It doesn't surprise me that they can keep the grass cut with tens of thousands of flat markers. They should not be driving equipment across graves unless they are working very near. They have empty areas for them to travel inside the sections. I have also noticed on visits that the workmen are boisterous, cackling and unrespectful. I don't expect silence, but they sound like they are at a dice game most days. I shudder to think what will become of the beautiful mausoleum and its occupants in fifty or a hundred years when the place is falling down. Do you think they can rebuild it and make the transfer of occupants? They'll end up in a mass anonymous grave. read more

Terrible. Do not waste your money here. They do not upkeep the grounds or mausoleum. No amount of phone calls to their office helps (in fact, all they do is block your number). Once they have your money, you're stuck because they have no motivation to provide any quality of service. The mausoleum is not cleaned; cobwebs, bugs, dead flowers, etc. (for the glass chambers) litter the place. The only people we have seen cleaning are people visiting their loved ones and don't want garbage in front of their chambers. No staff to be found anywhere. Save your money and go elsewhere, no need to pay their high prices for no service. read more
